They were initially good, if oblivious and frequently stuck on weird trends, and they were shown to be tough but fair (by cartoon standards, anyway) in earlier episodes, usually in service of a message relating to respecting your parents. Then, perhaps like a TV-Y7 version of Peter and Lois Griffin, their quality as parents, or lack of it, became almost entirely dependent on what the writers thought would be funny at certain moments. And then Timmy's Dad became one of the most focused-on characters, for better or worse, usually worse.

You completely forgot about the episode that reveals the show's biggest secret. In season 8, episode 10, "Timmy's Secret Wish", it's revealed that timmy made a wish for everyone to stop aging, and cosmo granted it. It's then revealed that timmy wished for cosmo to forget and that's why cosmo is so dumb. And it's revealed that he made that wish 50 years ago.

There’s been hints that Da Rule book is constantly updated with new rules. So from the beginning, Da Rule might not have been as restricted as the current edition. For example, in current time, it is against the rules to wish someone back to life, but in the episode Timmy meets King Arthur, who actually died fighting a dragon, Timmy wished him to be brought back to life with Cosmo and Wanda actually considering do it which they did, which implies fairies can bring people back to life, but a rule was later added to restrict that ability
Also, there are ways to get around some rules. For example, Timmy tried to wish his embarrassing threat-mantic email (wrote by his parents) to come back, which was denied because it is against the rules of love. He was still able to get it back, but not directly by wishing himself into the internet to get it back himself. So it is possible to break some rules, you just need to be smart about it.

Something to note about Da Rules is that a lot of them are only added when a wish goes catastrophically wrong and the only solution is to wish for it to have never happened.
So my theory is that Da Rules are effectively a way to teach the children to use the magic for good, positive reasons. Perhaps as a way to prevent the Darkness from being lured to them

      Also a few things.
Flappy bob DID have "fairy" god parents. The pixies. It just sort of makes sense that he didn't get actual fairies.
Second, alot of the rules are broken via indirect means. Or extenuating situations. Like the super thing. Magic both can create super x but can't undo it unless x wants it to be undone or it's been weakened somehow. (Except in the episode when he wishes the world was a comic book)
Also fairy babies aren't rare because fairies breed slowly. They were litterally outlawed because of Cosmo

As much as it was brought up in the show, and in this theory, the only thing that would make sense is that Da Rules were a decision of the council. Jorgan was put in charge because he’s strict, not strong. Any fairy can look like him through magic. Even he does this, his iconic appearance is just him using magic to look intimidating. But therein lies another aspect to Jorgan. Fairy Boot Camp. He may not actually be as strong as the soldiers of old but he can, and must, make the rest. So decides the council. Don't forget the ultimate loophole: in one episode timmy wishes anything he said becomes true, and it seems to work even if what he says would be against the rules to wish for. In fact, it works even after he loses his fairies (which is supposed to nullify any wishes).

      That's an impressive feat!
But that begs the question, can Timmy wish the fairies to be back? Or for the Darkness to seize to exist?
It seems like the wishes aren't reversed when a child loses his fairies, or perhaps only the ones directly granted by them... This means that you'd be able to grant wishes yourself if you wish to become some magical creature yourself... As evident in the series.

Actually, Cosmo and Jorgen being cousins would explain why Timmy can get away with writing stuff in his version of Da Rules and the episode just rolling with it. Because technically speaking, being related to the owner of the master copy, Cosmo, Wanda and obviously Timmy can treat them as more like hard coded suggestions if they're creative enough since their copy is a less powerful version of it. By the way, I remember an episode where Timmy traded places with Cosmo and Wanda for a bit. Which makes me wonder if there was a ever a child who wished for a human child or adult to become a fairy to expand the population if only a bit. Don't know if that was ever covered in the show.

Obviously it pretty much tastes like slightly flavored water, but better than regular water. And wasnt horribly expensive. That said the refills are going to be where they get you. Originally wishology was the second time the show intended for a proper series finale (the first being channel chasers) and the line at the end of part 3 when Jorgen casually said that he was going to erase everyone’s memories and everything would go back to normal was added in last minute when Nick renewed the show for season 7 forcing Butch Hartman for the second time to continue the show when he didn’t want to. one of the biggest questions I always think of when I think of Fairly Odd Parents is "What is up with Cupid?"
Every time I watched the show and he showed up I was just like, what are you?
He has been proven to be a lot of different things throughout the show, but at the same time he limits himself a ton too!
He is a holiday character, due to being the representative of Valentines Day. He is the Greek god of Love, Ya know, CUPID! But he is also apparently a Fairy... But he also doesn't have the "Wands and Wings, (and) Floating Crown-y things" that all other fairies have (except Jorgan for whatever reason), he has a pair of feathery wings, no hat, and a bow with arrows.
He also has control over one of those rules that Fairy's aren't allowed to mess with, love. Making him one of the strongest fairies there, and yet he has to listen to Jorgan.
So, what is his deal? Is he just forcing himself to be limited because he lives in Fairy World? Does he get annoyed with the other gods on Olympus and relax in a world where he is more powerful than everyone around him? I just don't know.

    • @MasterOfTruck
      @MasterOfTruck Před rokem +49

cupid isnt connected to the greek gods in FoP canon because he was created far before the greek gods were considered for the series. they just didnt retcon it (and if the series ended where it was originally supposed to, none of the other greek gods would even be in the show). but remember that the fairies can modify any aspect of their appearance as needed. its the reason why jorgen doesnt show his wings to not appear as a sissy, but uses a jetpack instead because "its cool". but he chooses to display his crown as a show of his fairy pride. so its not doubtful that cupid has his wings like an angel and doesnt show his crown as a sign of his own vanity.
holiday fairies and specialized fairies are definitely ranked higher than normal fairies and some rules are in place to specifically prevent you from overstepping your wishes into their job. like how all dental related wishes are approved by the tooth fairy, and all sleep related wishes are handled by sandman. cupids job is to spread love, but he doesnt force people to fall in love. he only shoots arrows at those if the feelings are reciprocated by both parties, which doesnt violate da rules at all.

No, one thing I have to point out is that a lot of people forget just how much Timmy's life sucks, his parents don't care about him, he gets bullied at school, Toodie is obsessed with him, and his babysitter Vicky is outright cruel to him. There is an episode where Timmy asks for a magic free day and that episode makes it clear that without continuous use of magic, Timmy has it pretty bad.

I had just gotten into this show this week, and the fact that this theory came out around that time made me lose it! 😂 Anyways, it’s pretty ingenious how the Fairly OddParents manages to dance around “Da Rules” just to make sure Timmy gets what he wants, yet also ends up learning from making those wishes.
And I didn’t expect to love his fairy godparents! They sort of have that “Roger and Jessica Rabbit” vibe, where it’s clear as day their differences don’t make them any less happier to be together. Plus, their contrasting personalities add balance to how they care for Timmy: Wanda gives him the wisdom and knowledge he needs to grow, and Cosmo gives him more of the optimism and hilarity to find light in the darkest situations.

The very fact that the first episode of Fairly Oddparents has Timmy turned into an adult, and then finding a loophole that says he can use wishes if he is a "kid at heart" explains PERFECTLY why my childhood was spent arguing even the tiniest of details about what someone says in order to try to get things to go my way. I mean, if he got magical wishes, why can't I argue my way into some extra dessert? hahahahaha. I really enjoyed this show growing up. I was born in '95, so just the right age for when it was being new in the early 00's, until around '08. That was when I started to do more outside as a teenager.

An impressive theory, but I don’t think it pans out. Around the time of when Poof is to be born, it is revealed that Jorgon meant to add a rule banning the birth of future fairies, but someone else messed up and so the rule wasn’t added (although he thought it had been).
