Adaptive High Beams for Tesla Model 3 2024 Highland - Update 2024.2
Notes: The high beams now adjust to reduce glare for other drivers and cyclists.
By detecting other road users and selectively dimming individual pixels of the headlights, the high beams can remain on longer, enabling better visibility at night.
To turn it on, go to Lighting: Adaptive High Beam in your vehicle settings.
Editor's note: This addition is currently only for the new Model 3. It does not add support for matrix headlights on other vehicles.
Would love to see what this looks like from the oncoming traffic!
I will try to make a video like this! Thanks for the idea!!
Yes.
? you see nothing. Every modern car in Europe has this. its nothing special at all
@@SpiDey1500 Agreed. This is some of the first I've seen working in the USA though. I guess I'm curious if Tesla is doing it well or if it's a really crappy experience for the oncoming driver and maybe needs to be tuned over time. Especially since there was a flash from that motorcyclist.
Happened to me and my family 3 days go, I was wondering why the left headlight was brighter then I found out about this (It was a Model Y). BTW it worked very well, we weren’t dazzled at all in the car
Given how rubbish Tesla Auto High-Beams used to be I didn’t have much hope but this seems like it works really well, especially if Tesla keeps working at it and improving with software updates. 👌
Thanks for making the video! 👍
Yes! I agree with you it is an improvement compared on what we got at the beginning. Thanks for watching!!
If you driven a lot of other cars, then it does not seem to be working too well. Although there has been a general downgrade in headlight technology over the last few years to save costs.
You've done us a solid man! Been waiting for someone to share a video of this.
Thanks for watching man!! You have another video in the channel, where I am testing them in a highway.☺️
Thanks for being the first to show man!
@@TerroxNL79 thanks to you for watching!!! I was just luky and willing to share!! ☺️
The motorcycle at 2:20 didn't appreciate them, he full beams back at you, so clearly blinding him
Yea you can see that at first it got it right but the closer he came the more full beam was pointing in his direction. Weird tho
Yes it is exactly like that, at the very last seconds went wrong 🙄
Looked at that situation a couple of times, it looks more like he prefixes high beam to lighten. Dark road after passing
or it was just an acceleration of the motorcycle?
@@airestocky no, it clearly flashed back to me…
Thank you!!! Been trying to find this. Will share!!

Thank you very much, looking forward to test it myself in the hopefully near future.
The OTA update should be available to most of us in the coming days I assume! Good luck!!
Appreciate the video!
Thanks!!!☺
You are the chosen one :D I'm waiting for the update In my TM3HL in Poland.
Idk why I get it so early, lucky me!🤭
Love this❤ thankyou😊
You’re welcome, and many thanks for watching!!
Thank for the video.
The "old" tm3 will receive the update with adaptative high beam!😎
Thanks to you for watching!!!
Thats what we've been waiting for
Yes!! And now coming to all the M3 Legacy and Model Y. 🥳
The lack of matrix light was always one of the things that stopped me from buying it. Now a front camera and I'm happy
Woha front camera would be lite 🔥
Look at the new pictures of X and S in the configurator. I think there is a front camera there next to the Tesla logo.
@@hanspetter9466that doesn’t really say much on its own though since even the model 3 Highlander had renders on the shop with a front bumper camera at some point which got removed before deliveries started.
same here!
I do believe that at some point Tesla will include the front facing camera...
Insane, it actually looks like this is working 😎😎
Working pretty well actually, taking into account this v1 looks promising!! Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for the vid, that explain everything and now ima High beam every Tesla
I hope improvements will come to the rest of the features soon!! 😊
e funziona peggio di Volkswagen di 2010 o Mercedes di 2005. macchine senza led, con xenoni
I really would like to see how it looks like for the other cars. I turned off the automatic light, because I think I blinded the other cars way too often.
I will try to make one like this too!! Thanks for the idea!!!
Super světla
Yes!! Thanks for watching!!!
Genial 🤩 einfach perfekt und einfach so kostenlos dazu 🥰
Ich freue mich das mein Higland auch bekommt 😍
Looks very cool! Quite happy with it!! Thanks for watching!!🙂
Frage, wann denn…
@@dieterxu4362 keine Ahnung 🤷♂️
Sind seit Jahren verbaut und kostenlos ist das nicht. Haben die sich mit Geld und Geduld zahlen lassen. Sich über Matrix Led in 2024 zu freuen ist lächerlich! 🤦♂️
Ja, super, kostenlos für 43000 €. Andere haben das seit zig Jahren.
Can you upload more country driving? I can watch this more, especially now that today legacy 3 and Y got the certificate, there is hope 😊
I am planning to do another one this weekend, even deeper in the countryside. I will keep you posted, be sure to subscribe anyway 😉
@@M.JR.88 Thanks, where do you live btw? HIghland owners reporting no adaptive feature in this update in Hungary... bonkers.
In Spain, so as part of EU you should get it as well.
😍😍
Thanks for watching!!
Finally turns off automatically in cities. Thanks Tesla 🙏🏼. Now please for all vehicles and fix auto wipers. Am I allowed to share the video on my TikTok channel?
Yes you can share it, just mention my YT channel or the link. Thanks for sharing and watching!! 😊
Thanks for your Video... Looking hourly on my iPhone to check if the Update available... My hope: There much more less Highlands on the Street then the "old" Ones... So hopefully the Update is much faster enrolled then an Update for all Cars...
Good luck!! Sure it will be soon!!
Looks pretty good.
And as an OTA update... There's nothing to complain about.
Maybe, with FSD coming slowly closer to Europe, they'll put some work in bringing some systems together.
I think, they had to put their capacity in development in new systems like this, because this will be the standard in the future.
Also the parking system that seems to be part of the occupancy network.
In my opinion, that's the reason, why there were no big improvements for example with the wipers etc in Europe.
The cars sell pretty good and they really need to bring FSD on the road. Or at least start the training on european streets.
Our autopilot is a completely different software stack. And it's a dead one because it will be completely replaced, so I wouldn't expect to see too much investments/improvements there.
I hope so! I would love to wish improved FSD in Europe. 🤞
@@M.JR.88And thank you very much for the video. Since the announcement I checked CZcams several times per day if there's still someone with a realworld test.
Well done.
@@Meisterqn thank you! 🫶🫶🫶
Hopefully will come to older cars!
At least the hardware is there!! Lets cross fingers!!! 😊
Looks like a very rudimentary matrix function with a few matrix LEDs. Tesla usually has a 50% solution! VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes have a much better matrix LED light with a DLP chip and 1.2 MP resolution
But It also costs a fraction of the cost of the other brand competitors have mentioned, while offering better range, charging network… and the build quality of the Highland is much better than before. Thanks for watching!
Finally the highbeams will turn on faster than before, where you had to wait a couple of seconds, now its less than 1 I think
Usually now, since the update, I don’t even realize when they turn on. I think is working pretty well. Thanks for watching!!
Great Job! does it appear like the lights bend/swivel on a road corner or bend to stay on the road?
Almost sure that they do not bend/swivel, just pixels turning on and off...
@@M.JR.88 Thanks for the reply
@@teetubbie7697 it’s my pleasure ☺️
I WANT THE OTHERS POV get another mate with a camera please i want to know if it lags or still blinds others.
seems like Tesla model 3 from around 2021 nov-dec until 2022 Oct. will have the matrix lights here in europe, and then new Highland
It seems so! Thanks for watching!!
OK!
Matrix Technology 10 years ago.
No curve adjustment and the function looks a bit unreliable.
Yes, in other cars this function cost extra. But you get more comfort and better light (e.g BMW I4 Laserlight).
I hope for the owners, that is not the last version.
Sure there needs to be improvement from Tesla side, and I am quite sure that it will be. On the other hand a base i4 (with optional Laserlight) costs 61.814,20 € whereas a base Model 3 is 39.990€, at least in my country. I think that is a huge difference, and I would expect to receive an overall better car in the case of the i4, and still, I am not sure it is. Thanks for watching!!!
@M.JR.88 In this case you need to compare the Model 3 SR with the I4 35. This car starts at 52,000 and the Model 3 SR at 42,000 in Austria inkl. VAT. The Laserlight 1700,- extra.
But in Reality you will get a discount 5-7% from the dealer.
My I4 M50 full equipment without sunroof 78.500,-€
@@miseethi the prices that I shared are the ones in Spain, maybe i4 prices here are higher. But anyway, I still believe that those two cars do not compete at same level. BMW build quality and materias are at a level of premium/luxury that Tesla is not. And that it is visible on the price level.
@@M.JR.88materials are at the same level in 2024
what camera did you use? so good quality lol
Hey! I am using my iPhone camera 😅 Thanks for watching!!!
@@M.JR.88 i'm impressed. keep us posted including the review for range and chargin speed etc. i have a legacy M3P. 😁
@@borinvlogs I will try ☺️ on the meantime you have another beams video, just uploaded!
Will the segments that illuminate the signs also be darkened so that they do not dazzle?
Yes, they should, but is not working always… this is one of the main parts to improve in next updates. Thanks for watching!!!
Did Y also have this kind of reflectors?
It seems that 2021 models an up, will get it soon. Thanks for watching!!
Does the high beams stay activated when the light is reflecting on a traffic sign ?
On mine, when the car is facing a traffic sign and the reflection is to high, the car is switching high beams into low beams
Yes, it is doing so but not all the time. I believe it will improve overtime.
@@M.JR.88 okay thanks !
Does it dim when approaching slower cars ahead of you in your lane? Does it adapt or just blind them?
Hello, it dims when approaching others cars. So far it works quiet well. Thanks for watching!
Is it more to the update or just the adaptive headlights?
Only the headlights in this one. 😊
you are the best! good job
Many thanks!! ❤️❤️
Did I see correctly, the icon on the display didn’t change is that correct?
Yes, correct, the icon in the screen is the same as the previous high beams.
@@M.JR.88 Thanks! Can’t wait to get the update!
i hate that my 2021 model 3 with matrix headlights still doesnt have this function
Today in Twitter someone said that it is coming to older models as well!! 🤞🤞
Great, but still lags behind my 2018 audi.
Audi lights have always been top!
I have an idea, how about sitting in another car and let someone drive your model 3 in the opposite direction for light viewing test in the next video?
I will try to do a video from another car POV, on the meantime you can check part 3 (foggy weather) thanks!!!
When will this update be available in Romania? Anyone knows it?
I don't know, but I assume that as part of the EU, you should be getting it in the coming days. Good luck!
Hope we can see this in America. Maybe it could be a “beta” feature
I am almost sure that you will get it in America pretty soon!! Thanks for watching!!
Did it blind the motorcycle?
I felt like yes, in the very last seconds. But I am not 100% sure.
It's not perfect yet, but seems good enough.
@@sergyu91ma 100% agree
I think yes
Is your low beams too high? Maybe lower them a bit and after that the matrix action will show a bit better, maybe. :)
Wow is this possible? I didn’t know I could lower them!! This weekend I am planing to do another video, and I will test it for sure. Thanks for the recommendation!!!
The lights already calibrated in the factory.
From the car manual:
“Proceed with caution when adjusting headlights. Tesla has carefully calibrated the position of the headlights to be in an optimum position for most driving scenarios. Tesla recommends that you do not adjust headlights unless you are familiar with how headlights should be adjusted. Once adjusted, you will be unable to automatically restore them to their originally calibrated position”
Yeah but in the real world they often come with the lights badly adjusted. There are instructions on how to adjust them, but i would recommend just making a appointment at the nearest tesla service Center and they can adjust them for free for you :)
Anyways the headlights are not that good compared to BMW or other manufacturers, but still nice to see them implementing that feature for my m3.
@@antwes40 Let's be real, at the price this is coming in at, this beats most cars sold in the states at least. Not sure about Europe, though, as you guys seem to be way ahead of the curve on adaptive lights.
Woha... I don't feel confident to touch them. Thanks for the detailed info!
Please give it to my M3 2021, too 🤗🤗🤗
It is coming to older model 3 too!!
@@M.JR.88🎉🎉🎉
I don't see the difference. Normally with this you see a change in the light pattern.
I will upload a video later this weekend where I am testing them in foggy weather. There you will see the difference much better 🙂
Motorcycle wasn’t really happy being blasted by highbeam close range
Yes, I feel that in the very last seconds it has blasted him... the system needs a little bit of polishing... but for v1 it looks pretty neat. Thanks for watching!!
any info if tesla is planning to active those for current model y
I don’t have any info, just the belief that the hardware in the M3 legacy and Model Y is capable to do so.
someone posted on twitter Tesla got approval for legacy models of 3 and Y so hopefully!
@@MrKlawUK yess I just saw it!! Looks promising!!!
@@MrKlawUK yes, just saw it and it is seems we all will get this feature, only condition is to have capable hardware :)
And they do have capable hardware right?
Dunkelt er sich in City Licht automatisch?
When entering a city the high beams turn off automatically, and the regular ones start functioning. Same when leaving, but in the opposite.
@@M.JR.88 unglaublich gut 🥳🥳🥳ich hoffe , dass bei uns in Deutschland 🇩🇪 genau so wird bis jetzt immer Dauerbetrieb egal ob Stadt oder nicht 😡
I am not 100% sure, but at least in Spain I believe it is illegal to go in the city with high beams turned on. I assume that this is why they deactivate automatically. 😅
@@Robomobil2022E Stört dich das in der Stadt? Mehr sehen ist doch besser, als weniger sehen... Und verboten ist es ja auch nicht

When these coming to USA 🇺🇸?
I'm interested to know as well.
I have no idea, it seems to be related to some sort of specific regulation in the USA. It seems that Tesla confirmed that it is coming, but not when...
@@M.JR.88 omg how stupid
Haben dich Autos gegenüber angeblinkt?
I’ve been driving during 30min aprox. 3-4 cars flashed me (one of them the bike in the video). So it needs a bit of polishing, but overall it was pretty good.
Bad times for motorcyclists 2:23 😮
True… I think she/he was not very happy. Hopefully the system will improve over time.🤞
Doesn't look too good, no? Motorcycle actually flashed their high beams just before crossing.
After some hours of driving with the new high beams, I must say that I got max 6-7 “complaints” from other cars. So it is not perfect, but for v1, I believe it is quite Ok.
@@M.JR.88I wonder how many were dazzled but didn’t complain?
Many people won’t react.
OK, so now Tesla have a poorly functioning low resolution Matrix headlight 10 years after other brands.
Given how shitty the Auto High Beams are, im just hoping that u can turn this off as soon as its coming out
You can, but is not that bad at all. Thanks for watching!!
I find it difficult to actually see the effect.
Sure?
Auto high beams are still absolutely terrible in my experience. I can’t imagine the matrix being very polite to other drivers.
I didn’t get many complaints, and this weekend I was driving at night for few hours… but sure they need to improve, and almost sure they will! Thanks for watching!!
