  • Not many people think of honor as a virtue these days, yet the law of God remains unchanged: “Honor your father and your mother” (Ex. 20:12). Today, R.C. Sproul expresses our duty to give dignity and respect to parents.

This made me stop and think. Through my walk with God over the years, God has taught me so much about this honor and respect attitude! I can see how my thoughts have improved so much as the Holy Spirit has worked. This was a good opportunity to reflect and thank God for the change He has made in me, thanks for this message

Dear Ligonier Ministries , this is just one of the commands Jesus covered for us, His Blood covers a multitude of sins. These 10 were shown to be impossible to keep all the time. EVEN if we THINK a wrong thought HE said it is already sin! WHO could be perfect at all times even in thought (and not to mention deed)… THANK GOD for the NEW and EVERLASTING COVENANT , in HIS Blood, by HIS LOVE♥️♥️♥️

Honor is not easy to give to those who have hurt you. It is one of the commands from the Mosaic covenant and Jesus fulfilled that by paying for our sins INCLUDING the sins of disobedience to the first 10 commandments. We NEED Jesus, the Blood covenant to cover all our sins which EVEN encompass our THOUGHTS. Thank GOD for Jesus, HE KNEW we could NOT keep these commandments and laws without His help, His covering of LOVE over a multitude of our sins.. INCLUDING the one about honoring parents who do not deserve it…

Yes, parents should be honoured and respected, even if they don't act well.
This reminds me of Rom 13:1-7, where Paul says that Christians should honour and respect civil rulers. And who was the Roman emperor at this time? None other than Nero, who was morally pretty much the worst of the worst.
The office of ruler deserves respect, even if the ruler is bad. And the office of parent deserves respect, even if the parent is bad.

    • @beloveddaughter717
      @beloveddaughter717 Před rokem

Yes but to respect a ruler from afar is a LOT easier than to respect a close relative whom you may love and is closer in all aspects except they treat you in a way that does not grow respect naturally. I believe Paul says in the New Testament to respect your parents ‘in the Lord’ but I’m not sure where it is. JESUS said “ who is my mother and brother and sister and father? It is the one who obeys and follows the LORD” paraphrased but that is the jist of it. SO I say BLESS them, forgive them and let them GO. I’m not sure what the honor part means when someone is obviously not within the description of what Jesus described as ‘HIS family, or mother father sister brother” …

@@beloveddaughter717 Well, I think it would have been very hard for Christians to respect Nero after the great fire of Rome, when he wrongly blamed them for the fire and burned some of them alive.
But you are certainly right, of course, that there are many Christians who have very difficult family issues to deal with.
Eph 6:1 says: 'Children, obey your parents in the Lord.'
Importantly, 'in the Lord' here modifies 'obey', not 'parents'.
Paul doesn't mean that children should obey parents if they are in the Lord, i.e., believers.
Rather, he means that children should obey-in-the-Lord their parents, i.e., they should treat their parents in ways that are fitting for followers of Jesus to treat them.
But this verse is about children who are minors anyway.
It is true that Jesus redefines family as those who are in the Christian spiritual family.
But this doesn't mean that physical family has no importance at all.
That would conflict with many other biblical passages.
It just means that the spiritual family is more important than the physical family.
As far as letting family go is concerned, I believe there are times when it is right to sever relationships.
But this should only happen in exceptional circumstances and as a last resort.

Our souls will rejoice and grateful to our Heavenly Father that He entrusted you unto your parents even before time eternity and the blood of Jesus washes away all repentant hearts of both challenged parents and knuckleheads kids. One thing it seems, to honor is not necessarily to LOVE. There are different kinds of Love, I believe honor and respect is not love as we understand but is a ‘kind of’ love in its own right.. Please HELP ME Jesus I desire to do what is right but my flesh is crying out and dying to self and it is a long drawn out death. 😢

The devil and demons need to stop pretending anyone is my parent that is not anymore, respect for authority is tricky, ideally it probably should be displayed but sometimes authority needs disrespect or discipline, from a child to their own actual parent this may be much less ideal that a child would have to discipline a parent it probably would not be immediately beneficial to the child much and hopefully would not be generally necessary much I need to get to sleep soon there is only one God.
