one can argue that a healthy Devils team with a goalie bounce right back next year. i doubt Keefe takes that job without knowing they are going after a goalie

I think so too. There's something about the Leafs that jinx the coaches and players for reasons I dunno why. Take Phil Kessel who Leafs dumped to Pittsburgh and he wins back to back Stanley Cups and won again with Vegas so now is 3x Cup champion. But it just didn't come together with Leafs. Kyle Dubas could help rebuild Pittsburgh and Keef will do well with Devils and who knows they may work together again down the road.

Not that funny because you can bet on it. Also expect Dubas to rebuild Pittsburgh to be a contender next season. And BTW Leafs making playoffs is not a sure thing.
Dubas sinks pens core demands trades, Keefe gets eliminated 1st round as always. Leafs...who knows.

Honestly with NJ, I think Keefe will be successful and take this team to new heights. Would love to see NJ eliminate the Laughs in a playoff series or win the cup before the Laughs ever do.

He’s probably saying that because in 2023 when Keefe called out the top players Marner had a hissy fit in the media about it, the very next day Keefe apologized to the top players through the media, and that was it.

Sheldon Keefe delivered results for Leafs the best franchise result. Problem was the playoffs. That could be more to do with the team than coaching. NJ is a good team doing a rebuild so Keef is a great choice and could help NJ go deep in playoffs. With Keef playoffs is guaranteed.

Saying goaltending was the biggest issue NJ faced is absolute BS nearly all of the top guys (Nico, Timo, Jack, Dougie, etc etc) missed 10 games or more to injury. Any team with a Vezina caliber goaltender would still struggle in those circumstances. Giving up young players and other assets for a goalie that may or may not work out would be a huge mistake. Lots of teams need a goalie, and there just aren't enough to go around. Giving up everything to get one will guarantee another missed playoffs.
Jack and Timo were both playing injured all year and the defense was super young and the goaltending stunk so it should only get way better next year

It can be fixed. He works with what he's got. He doesn't make the player trades. Other teams recognize his talent so scooped him up right away. Same thing with Kyle Dubas which IMO matters less but got a big promo with Pittsburgh. Mike Babcock found another gig too. Same thing with Raptors coach. Thing is it's a carousel of talent so teams just play musical chairs.

@@logand3957 My point is every team needs a good goalie defense and goal scorer. That's universal. A coach doesn't have a thing for anything but is offered a ton of money to work with what he's got to take the team as far as he can. What Sheldon has a thing for is moolah and lots of it. Babcock was paid $50 million for no result. I'm guessing Sheldon wasn't paid anywhere near that but his deal with Devils for sure is in the millions maybe $15 million over 5 years so a massive upgrade from the Marlies that's for sure.

What Gallant did for us vs Devils. He will never coach ever again in this league. Maybe a lottery team with no future but nothing beyond that.
