- In last nights Knights Petes game, Knights forward Ryan Humphrey takes a questionable high sticking penalty and proceeds to get into it with the penalty box attendant. Let me know what you thought of the interaction below!

That's basically the spirit of hockey incapsulated in a 30 sec clip. Being invested enough in the sport/team to be willing to fight anyone and everyone, but once the dust settles down you can just grab a beer and laugh about it.

@Drippy, Bubbly, Runny Farts He's a kid that felt like he put in his team in trouble for something he didn't do. Wow! You obviously didn't make the cut as a kid. The old man reminded who's house it was and he calmed down. Trying getting coughed by for punching someone in the face when you didn't, you're going to see that you might try to plea your case.

It man have been an instantaneous reaction by the PBO player as he saw it coming up. It's also possible he got just by the tip of the blade (that's what she said!) when it hit his chest.

embellishment should be a game misconduct for unsportsmanlike conduct; that along with suspension (3-5 games) and fine would put a stop to it

My guess is the old guy saw the replay and realized that he had a reason to be pissed and probably apologized and the kid was raised right and accepted it. Such an awesome interaction!
First time seeing Humphrey play when I was watching this series. I like that kid. He's passionate and plays hard.
Reminded me of my Granddad "shutting" me down once back in the day.....five minutes after the fireworks we both were smiling! I miss my Pops! Cheers Everyone

I was a minor official for the University of Minnesota Duluth for many years. Once an opposing player took a penalty late in a game and their team took a time out. I told the player that she could go back to her bench during the time out (obviously, it was a women's game I worked that day). The player flipped me off. I buzzed the referee, who asked me what happened. I told him, and he simply said "give her ten (misconduct) and let me know if it happens again." The next day, I got an apology from the player.
Point being, minor officials are supposed to be exempt from abuse. Happily, these two worked it out but it wouldn't have surprised me to see the scorer's bench buzz the referee for additional action.
You're right. The line has to be drawn somewhere. Officials don't deserve that kind of abuse. It's hard enough to get people to work these games on a regular basis already. Players are both capable of and expected to respect the officials in all sports. Hockey is no exception.
I used to do Div 3 hockey and I had similar incidents. One time I had to tell a kid to calm the fk down. After the game he told me that he wished they could take me with them on the road. lol Those kids were great. They get emotional and need to vent sometimes.
I've been a hockey fan hella longer than I played, but I'd say 95% of the "heated" exchanges I've ever seen/experienced went just like this one.

I was at this game only a few rows away from this when it happened. Everyone sitting around us, couldnt really tell wtf was going on. Just could tell there was a bunch of commotion around the box. Was certainly interesting to see the aftermath on TSN highlights that night.

In Peterborough, the corners are almost square. You try to clear it around the boards from behind the net and it bounces into the slot sometimes. Played many games there back in the day. I hope they didn't take the Queen's portrait down.
I've never seen the arena before but the first thing I noticed in the video were the corners.
This is amazing fans love this but fans also hate the fact that a player can pretend to get hit in the face and not be able to review it
He is a minor official and has responsibilities to maintain some order for his box….BUT, it must be respectful. The player probably realized he was just doing his job and looked like he changed his tune a bit. Having a laugh about it shows how fun hockey guys can be.
By the way, as a Ref, I would still called a high stick, but also an embellishment on the other guy.
I love this… I Almost didn’t click it bc I hate crap like that. But I’m happy I did bc that’s hockey n that’s life sometimes you’re heated n pissed n then you get it out n 2 seconds later you’re laughing about it n moving forward n enjoying life.

That’s how two adults handle a heated discussion during high emotions and competition.

I am not going to say that there are not moments where someone will literally want to kill someone, and that there are not times when grudges last forever, and finally there are just guys who are flat out vicious, but that is the exception. In my experience most times you were in the moment but you got past it and left it behind as part of the game. I like that.

Quick honest question, does high sticking ONLY refer to getting hit in the head/face or is the chest still high sticking? Either way it appears that he hit him on the wrist so it would still be a slashing penalty. And it absolutely could’ve be an embellishment on the other guy as well. BUT the puck definitely wasn’t on the guys chest so not sure why he hit him there 🤷🏻♂️.
That’s my opinion from a professional beer league player who only plays because there isn’t a draft.
Yes, high sticking is only above the shoulders. It can still be a slashing penalty though.
Slashing is usually a bit of a decent wack while high sticking is anything above the shoulders, even soft stuff.
Hockey Refs have a bunch of judgement calls but high sticking isn't one. That's where the argument here is.
That old man should do his job and stfu. It's not his job to tell the players anything.

Yeah, I've done the be pissed at the ref, then overreact and throw your stick in the penalty box and hit one of the time keepers with it thing.
They weren't impressed, and we almost started fighting, which was why I was in the box to begin with.
My excuse, and I'm sticking with it, is it was an away playoff game, and I forgot there wasn't a partition between the players and the time keepers 😙.
It's not the attendant's place to prevent the player from arguing.

It would be Nice if the nhl replays high sticks or at least have a ref in Toronto room watching the play and say no penalty. I've seen countless times teams get screwed.

I actually did. Stick checking was always allowed, far from a slash to the chest. What's more relevant here is the embellishment, an unsportsmanlike infraction

So, I may have missed this, but after video review did the ref change the 5 minute major penalty to a 2 minute minor?
No! He did get him in the face. The guy put his gloves up to his face immediately. A natural reaction. That's very clear.
It's one thing for players to be fighting with each other, but behaving that way to the penalty box keeper, and an elder, is something different. You don't do that. That is beyond disrespectful. Keep the roughhousing on the ice and not in the penalty box.
A kid should never talk to a man that old like that. I wish someone walked in there and dropped his punk ass. The results of bad parenting, gonna get much worse.
