    In today's tutorial, we're looking at how to paint Ultramarine/Primaris/Smurf vehicles! We're taking you through the steps to achieve a high-quality paint job, without the need for an airbrush!
    This method can be used with different colours, so even if you're not looking to paint anything blue it is simply a matter of subbing out the paints.

    Man... Your dry brush work is inspirational. One of these days I'm going to have the confidence to put down the airbrush and pick up my dry brushes and follow along. Would love to see you do a Grey Knights APC with metallics. Your dry brushed GK Dreadknight was transcendent. That video was where I learned that awesome technique where you Speedpaint over top of metallic.

    I would love to see you tackle a black vehicle using neutral grays instead of blue grays for highlights. Am really struggling on large surfaces on my Raven Guard gunships! Super interesting video, keep up the good work!

    This was very informative I love how you showed the whole process and talked your way though each of the steps I've just ordered some of these brushes and can't wait to give them a go. I'd love to see how you tackle colours like Deathwing bone or custodes gold on large vehicle models without looking flat

    I am starting a knight army soon and not owning an airbrush I was a bit worried on how to approach the panels. Definitely going to give this a try, I think it will look really good on a chaos knight where everything does not need to look perfect and clean!

    I've been watching since your channel started, and everytime you ask for recommendations I say the same thing: I want to see you do a massive project all the way through (kind of like you did with dragons)
    except I really want to see Archaon, belakor, lord of change and blood thirster. the range of complex textures, effects, armors, and colors seem like a truly unique opportunity

    I would love to see the weathering and chipping done on this. I’m using this tutorial to help me paint up a Munitorum Armoured Container so it should have a little bit of weathering/chipping/rust on it.

    In my opinion this looks better than most of airbrushed vehicles that I've seen. They often look like the paint was just randomly darker/brighter in some places.

      Thanks, dude, I think there's definitely something to be said for the fact that it *isn't* quite as fast/easy as the airbrush, you have to/can think while you go, there's something to be said for that.

      @@ArtisOpus One thing I think people get a bit "wrong" (I know it's personal taste) is they go too hard on the ruined aesthetic and do everything as rust with a wash to dirty it all down even more. Dystopia cyberpunk with lots of industrial elements could be a good style for your techniques - lots of varied shades of concretes and metals, lots of light effects and lots of weathering/industrial pollution staining. You can really tell a story with the right paint job.

    Looks great Byron. I got 3 Sisters of Battle tanks queing up to be painted by hand as Order of Our Martyred Lady (the Black armour) and definitely have the confidence to think i can do them this way even if the colours are different to the Ultramarine blue scheme. Good timing!

      I've used this technique for chaos rhinos before and it lends itself well to those colours (red in this case), so I think it'll be fine for blacks

    Would love to see some 'filters', the theory and practical applications such as coloured metallics like red and green. I know in the past you have added yellow over silver to give a gold effect. .

    Ordered sets of your brushes and just found a Predator tank I've had in pieces for....a long time. IF I can figure out WTF I did with the turret, will be trying this. And yeah, my army is Ultramarines, because I had no imagination at the time. lol
    Have a bunch of Blood Angels in Corvus armor I need to repaint, too.

    Also, would be interesting to see "weaker" colours used, like orange, yellow etc, on a complete vehicle.

    Great video thank you:) Have you considered venturing into more of the scale modeling paint schemes like WW 2 German ambush camo ? We are playing Dust 1947 and use historical elements along with weathering for our models.

    I'd love to see the method applied to some other common transports or vehicles. I like the necron scythe tutorial, be interested to see some Ork buggies/trukks or tau

    I rarely comment but this is simply incredible work. Watched a few of your videos previously but this has convinced me to sub!
    If I wanted to do a Rhino for the Thousand Sons in the same style, would the colours of Thousand Sons Blue, Ahriman Blue and Baharroth Blue be a good substitute for Kantor - Macragge - Calgar? Or would you use something else? Thanks!

      Absolutely, dude. I tend to go blue black, and finish carefully with a crisp edge of a slightly blue grey, makes it look deeper.

    Hey man, this was really great !! Say, do you think you could do something similar with the custodes big vehicles like the calladius or the telemon? I must say I'm not too sure how to do them (Maybe a drybrush of gehennas gold after having shaded a retributor armor priming with some reikland fleshshade.

    This looks fantastic, Just one question for you folks would you recommend something like this for a Pre-heresy Iron Hands army. I'm looking at painting them in a dark metallic black armor. So the thought I was having was to use this technique to create a metallic base which then can sponge on a contrast like black templar.

    Doing an Imperial Fist vehicle would be very helpful! Also, a colourful scheme on a Wave Serpent/Fire Prism would be very cool to see, maybe Biel Tan, Iyanden or Mymeara?

    Can this be trasfered to smaller models? Obviously drybrushing can, but I love the transition you got. Would there my any different approaches to it at all?

      Just smaller brushes and a bit more care, really. It is very important to start from a smooth Basecoat, you can apply it thinned as we did here, or any other way you like :)

    Man I use and love your techniques and brushes but living here in Arizona it is so DAMN dry here I can't get away with plopping paint on the texture palette its dry within probably a few minutes, I have taken to using my wet palette but it's a bit tricky trying to moosh it blends around. Great stuff as always!

      I have heard how extreme your last year or two have been, dude. Jason from Pro Acryl told me of the horror stories!
      It's a good idea, you can always put it out there, and scoop to dry source.
      Have you tried a humidifier in your painting area? It's not always temp, but humidity, they're about 30bucks, and you just top them up with water, charge from usb generally, plus good for your body.

      @@ArtisOpus honestly I've considered the humidfier and as of this moment its getting added to the cart haha. Its plenty cool in my house, so its 100% humidity (lack of) that's my issue. Thanks!

    This might be a dumb question (I am a newbie) but when drybrushing, you do not need to thin your paints? This is both for the stippling and for traditional drybrushing, correct? Why is that?

    Can you drybrush metallics, like a fully drybrushed tank say in copper, silver or gold, i use vallejo acrylic metal colour airbrush colors, that would be great to see if its even possible

      Check our library my dude. I do an entire IK Armiger :) and it's literally in VGA silver, one of my favourites

      While the VMC are indeed amazing paints, it's not something i'd go for when drybrushing simply because they're so watery/thin.
      As Byron already said below though, for "normal" metallics they got you covered.

    Newbie here. Love your content. I am trying to replicate this on my rhino and it isn’t coming out right. There is a ton of texture and the blends are just not smooth. Am I using too much paint? Not enough moisture? Do I need to be more patient between coats?

    I was really hoping to catch this as a live stream but my time zone makes it to late but I really want to ask how you would use this kind a technique with metallic silver? I have GK and any time I try this the silver seems to cover too well and I don’t get the fades and transitions?

      Just mix more black in with the beginning steps, and don't be afraid to go back in and stipple shadows/use washes

      You can actually paint them reverses, spray gold, drybrush silver, wash, then block in the panels, but unfortunately they're just fairly faffy models :| look amazing when done, though!
