    Hi great video! By the way I have a question and need your input and suggestion.
    I have a QSC touchmix 8 and I want to use it for live stream with my friends (about 4 to 6 persons) we want to do some online mini concert as a group with some interaction with our viewers, what items should I use? The challenge is I can only use one earphone for monitoring not unless you have another solution if I'll be using an external monitor speaker that won't create a loop or feedback? I noticed in the last part of your video (intagram clip) you and your duet partner doesn't have an in ear monitor, do you use an external speaker monitor?
    I also have the same question that needs your input and suggestion for my upcoming behringer flow 8 mixer/interface.
    I only intend to use either a smartphone and/or tablet for live streaming as the location may vary and eventhough the mixers I've opted is already portable I think having a laptop will be bulky.
    Thank you mate!

    Great info! It helps that i am using the same mixer/ so i feel more comfy! Side note- have you ever noticed a low grumbly sound through the mixer? It happens sometimes then sometimes it doesn’t and its fine- just wondering if its common or just maybe a bad cable?

    • @CodyMcManus
      @CodyMcManus  Před 3 lety

      It is possible it is a cable. Is it just a specific channel? Try muting them all one at a time as see if it goes away. Could just be a ground issue. If you have a ground lift on the mixer or DI try giving that a switch and see it it helps.

Just a thought.. While I haven't done this connection yet, I'm personally experimenting with different cable connections in my makeshift studio and looking to be able to replicate on the road.

    Hi Cody, thanks for the video. I got the 3.5mm to 2-Male RCA Adapter Audio Stereo Cable and inserted it in the L/R Rec out on the mixer, but I'm still not getting clear audio even after adjusting the gains. Is there something I can do to fix this? How is the RCA different from the one you recommended, and where would it go on the mixer if I end up buying a new cable? I have the Yamaha EMX5000, by the way.

    • @CodyMcManus
      @CodyMcManus  Před 3 lety +1

      RCA should work just fine. The important part to remember here is the headphone/mic phone splitter ( amzn.to/3c2dZjC ), this is needed to get any audio at all to your phone. I believe you would want to use the 'Rec Out' RCA output and play with the output from there

  • @franciscoorti9067
    @franciscoorti9067 Před 3 lety +1

    HI there, good explanation and you are sure about phones not getting stereo signals; however, there are videos out there with excellent sound quality and to me, it sounds stereo. Thinking of recording music in mono now days, is like thinking about which adaptors can I use to be able to send e-mails using typewriters. My daughter and I used a Canon 6i to upload a video, the sound was good in the camera, in the phone wasn't too bad, but hearing it with earphones was very amateur. I thought the sound from the phone speaker will be mono and stereo from the earphones because the trrs connector has left and right. Where am I wrong? Should we accommodate to a 2020 sound technology offering just mono sound recording? Hope not for very long. Thanks for reading.

    • @CodyMcManus
      @CodyMcManus  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey, thanks for taking the time to comment! Some phones do alright at producing a stereo sound but I believe the biggest issue is with the apps themselves. From my understanding, apps like instagram will only use mono audio for live streams to help reduce lag and latency. So even if you were able to send high-quality stereo audio it is likely to get compressed down to a mono signal. Certainly time for them to get up to date with the tech!
      The alternative is to use a program like OBS. It works great for live streaming through your computer to Facebook, Twitch, or CZcams, but it does not offer a mobile version. If you want to check it out, I just did a video on it!

    Cody. I'm using a DAW Pro-tools 1st for my mixer. I want to record a video on my iPhone 11 pro, while using the audio of the mix off of pro-tools including the compression, EQ verb delay. There has to be a way without having to sync the audio to the video and then deleting the audio from the iPhone and replace it with the audio from the ProTools mix. I think you're right about the future of video concerts. The quality of the sound will be a major factor. hi Cody was having a look at the above video where in you use a TRS to TRSS . i have a Yamaha mixer MG16/6FX i have tried using the main out/ the group out/ the headphone out/and normal RCAAV out to the TRSS and then into the phone. however the moment you go live and increase volume on the mixer the stream goes off. let me give u another example if i have say a karaoke track playing from CZcams on my laptop my laptop connected to the mixer and i stream live on my phone (not on a social media site only recoding on phone) once you start play back to listen to the recording there is a delay and the song follows what u singing instead of being on par with you. any help wud be great

      Hey noel! It sounds like you have everything set up correctly but I am not sure why you are receiving such a delay between the signal. Sorry I can't be more help but it is tough to diagnose the issue without being there and seeing your set up :(

      @@CodyMcManus OOhhh so you just leave your DAW open and add effects to your channels?

    • @CodyMcManus
      @CodyMcManus  Před 3 lety

      Yea! I will typically run all of my audio into Ableton and process it there. You can run into issues if you don't have a powerful computer as it could crash but Ableton is very stable.
      I run some backing tracks for live with midi commands to control my guitar tones, keyboard samples, and lighting. Then I process all my audio adding any effect i need and send the final mix back out through my interface to my phone to stream.

      Plug your mic into the mixer as per usual and adjust levels until it sounds good. Then your signal flow should look like this:
      Mixer Output -> 1/4 to 1/8 Cable ( amzn.to/3fMEIk8 ) -> Phone Mic/Headphone Splitter ( amzn.to/2DOwhYD ) -> Phone

    Hi sir Cody! Thanks for this video! If I can ask I have a Behringer XENYX Q502USB with a 3.5mm jack mini plug of 2 RCA male stereo audio speaker adapter connected from my phone to the 2-track input and I listen in on my TRS headphones, as for my mic a condenser mic in which I'm still at lost how I can't record the audio to my phone. I can hear my mic through my headphones but after recording, all I hear is the sound coming from my phone's mic and not from the mixer. The sound is distant. In conclusion, my phone is picking up the sound but not from my mixer and mic audio. Did I miss anything? Is there any way I can record it through phone? I'm still new with mixers and recording stuff and luckily, I found this video which guided me through the basics that I didn't even know of hahah. I hope you can respond since I also wanna record live with the sound coming from my mic. I admire your music on Spotify too. More power to your channel :')

      Hi Cheska! It sounds like you have everything hooked up properly so it is mostly likely something to do with your phone or the app you are trying to record to. What phone are you using? I would try a couple different apps and see if any of them are able to pick up you audio from the mixer as not every app will be able to pick up the mixer audio. Let me know how it goes :)

    Is there any benefit to sending audio from your usb interface into your phone over sending audio from a mixer into your phone?
    I’m wondering if there’s any possible way to send a stereo signal into your iPhone. Like if your playing tracks and using a mic at the same time.

    • @CodyMcManus
      @CodyMcManus  Před 3 lety

      It just depends on your audio source. I like to use my interface for I can run backing tracks and do my mixing in Ableton, but using a mixer for any live stetting will absolutely work.
      As for the stereo signal it is not possible. The hardware in iPhones is a mono audio input. Unless Apple alters the hardware it won't be possible

      Also, try it out with a different app. If you are using Instagram, test to see if it works on another platform first.

    • @CodyMcManus
      @CodyMcManus  Před 3 lety

      Yes! This should work just fine for you. You can either split your output and take the exact same signal that is being sent to your speakers and patch it to your phone. Or, you can send only select channels of audio through a new output/auxiliary send on your mixer and to your phone

      You bet! Just use one of the line outputs and run it to your phone. You will need a 1/4 to 1/8 cable plus the TRRS splitter from the video (or one similar).
      Then just make sure you route the output in your DAW to the output you are using on your interface. Let me know how this goes for you :)
