One of the first tutorials I've seen that hits it in the head, dead bullseye, without being overly complicated. Usually the best they get is a near miss and not quite so useful. I thought I'd also add that I use the frequency separation technique often, but when I originally learned it, all tutorials, and even college classes never made the distinction between the frequency of the light vs the frequency of CHANGES in the light the way you did. I had to learn that on my own by trial and error. Also, I've used those sliders instead, but I've done it by separating the changes by frequency adjustment. I make new layers, then smart object them, and add a camera raw filter, then add a mask on the layer. It allows me to work step by step through the image to draw out or obscure detail as the target final image needs. And it allows me to make folders of layers and use the comp tools to save several processes for comparison or for different final products with a single image beginning, and for this, actually allows me to apply a similar frequency separation processing using a more visually effective tool ( i can see the effect as I work). Thank you for making the full distinction between the sliders, and thank you for keeping it simple.

BH Thanks for adding this to my knowledge of the differences with texture clarity and dehaze. "Your tutorial on Create a Highly Realistic SKIN TEXTURE" is interesting as well, but it would be harder to only apply to just the skin in some cases. I guess that is the same with most skin softening methods.

This is very helpful to understand camera raw adjustments in PS. However in LR the camera raw filter has a diiferent interface particularly in respect to masking tools. There seems to be no equivalency between LR & PS for these particular masking tools. For example LR panels have no tick boxes for Overlay & Mask/Color. Instead there is 'Auto Mask' 'Density' and 'Range Mask - Off - Color - Luminance and a disabled -Depth. with range and smoothness sub sliders. Personally, I have a workflow where Detail and Contrast adjustments are performed in LR at the final stage of workflow. So my question is , could you please do a run through on the same topic but using Lighroom Classic?

This video drives home a comment you made years ago in one of your very early tutorials:
"If you can't do it in a curves adjustment, you can't do it."
You've taught me that all anyone really needs in photoshop are layers, masks, brushes and a curves adjustment. There is so much power in those tools that every enhancement to CC which comes along is just a combination of those 4 in some way.

Off Topic request. Can you convert png images to a wireframe drawing? It doesn't have to be a perfect depiction. Just a realistic one.I've been trying to figure this out for a few days and getting nowhere. If I can just map a wire frame to images that isn't distorted. Delete the image. I'm good to go. Even opening a image in 3-D and wireframing it somehow, taking a screen shot and deleting everything but the wireframe. Anyway, Thanks for you consideration if you see this. Regards,Joe

I wish you had just said "use this slider for this kind of image / purpose..." and shown the effect of each more clearly. And you haven't mentioned how to use these sliders along with the sliders in the Details panel. Your tutorials are never incomplete but this one seems to be. It seems aimed at selling the tutorial, which I would happily pay for but I hesitate to use my card online.

Good tutorial. I would just maybe disagree with the description of low and high frequencies. The two images that were compared were actually both high-frequency images, the only difference being that the one had more high-frequency occurrences. The other one had less, but still contained only high-frequency occurrences. A low-frequency image would contain smooth gradients.

Love your work my man, thanks for all of this!
One suggestion: Would be really good if you could state at the start of each video and in the INFO section, -
    1) the minimum version of photoshop one needs to be using, to use whatever tools you are demonstrating
    2) where we can get the plugins/filters/ etc from, and how much they cost.
Some of us can't keep up with the latest version of every piece of software we use, so the above info would tell us if the video applies to our situation or not.
If you mentioned this in the video, my apologies, but I didn't hear it in the first few minutes and couldn't find any info in the MORE INFO section, and so I stopped watching.
    Thanks!

I disagree with your assertion that sharpening adds the illusion of detail. Detail being features or characteristics in the image that preexist, and therefore are not illusory, are emphasized by edge enhancement where there are discontinuities in tone density. It is more correct to say therefore, that detail is enhanced by sharpening.
