LP Archives: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror grand opening ceremony at Disney California Adventure

- From the Laughing Place archives (and never before uploaded to our CZcams channel), this is the grand opening ceremony for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disneyland Resort's Disney California Adventure theme park (then Disney's California Adventure) in May of 2004.
In 2004, when I was there for a week (my second time ever and I was 7), and that place was out the door. The wait was like 2 hours long. I think I went like around the time it officially opened. Everyone was talking about the ride by saying that it was amazing, and it’s now their favorite ride ever at Disneyland.
When I first rode on it, I was scared at first b/c I was 7. We went when it was dark time, and there was still lines that were like about a mile long. My fam was smart to get the fast passes. It took us like 30 to wait in fast pass. The ride was the biggest thing during that summer year of 2004.
After I rode on it, we rode on it multiple times during that week afternoon and night time. It was awesome.
Every time I went to Disneyland later on the years, It was a tradition ride my fam rides first. It was great time. So depressed that they changed it to Guardiens of the Galaxy. But it is what it is. Great memories for sure
im so upset they changed it, i never got to ride it cuz im over here in Florida
This should've never been demolished. Thanks goodness we still have it in Paris and Orlando.

THE PARIS version is the same
but 2019 it changed to a new soundtrack and projection called a *NEW DIMENSION OF CHILLS*
which is not that scary.
THE ORLANDO VERSION's drop system is not that fun and the view of the ride when the doors open is not that great, it moves front and goes up and then drop which is also not the best

Even though I haven’t been on it when it existed I loved to see lots of people on the ride

@@nickthetrex I know. DCA's was the one I grew up with. There's also still one in Paris, as well as a version in Tokyo. I just can't travel to enjoy these versions. Plus DCA's was my favorite in terms of style and storytelling.
@@BellhopStitch so annoying when people say "theres still one in florida" DCA's was my favorite as well for storytelling. I remember watching it test when i was a little kid
@@mangerang I remember watching it test too! It was exciting but also terrifying. It ended up being my first major thrill ride. And yeah getting told there's one in Florida doesn't really help being in California.

it makes me sad to see carol sterling thanking everyone for keeping the twilight zone alive disney will never be the same for me they really crossed a line w mission breakout it doesnt capture walt disneys spirit at all :(
It captures the "disneyland will never be completed" thing,and you know at least the florida version is still operating.
Miguel Islas Lopez that response is old and tired and has no correlation whatsoever , saying disneyland will never be complete doesnt excuse the fact that they sold out by purchasing marvel studios at least star tours and indiana jones were placed in appropriately themed and complimenting areas, marvel has been randomly placed every single time since its debut being in the parks walt was very specific on branding and marvel studios literally existed while walt was alive i highly doubt he would want his disney characters next to comic book superheroes inside his magic kingdom
Btw, it doesn’t hurt to remove one tower of terror. There are plenty of others. I love the change bcuz there is more drops
But in hindsight,floridas version is the most unique,the other 3 towers use the same system...and in terms of arquitecture is nedeed for the epoct eyesight
and is the main icon of hollywood studios(by this time),i could see them removing the twilight zone ip into the ride but still be the same,so im guessing this version and tokyos version are here to stay....mostly tokyo....
Miguel Islas Lopez ya marvel and star wars dont exist in disneysea for a reason... american disney parks are trying so hard to imitate universals wizarding world when they shouldve just stuck to what they know, disney never dedicated an entire section to a movie until wizarding world and now all these theme park lands (harry potter , avatar , star wars , nintendo , marvel etc ) feel like they were designed by the same company whats even more depressing is that its UNIVERSALS formula so they rly all just feel like universal .. wdi shouldve stuck to walt disneys formula it was unbeatable, mission breakout is not walt disneys formula.

Eric Robison and I were guest artists for the special event opening...what a blast! I wish it was still there. They really ruined it. The Twilight Zone is iconic...the ride that replaced it...wait, what was its name?

I miss seeing the people screaming on the tower of terror now the only way to see it is either Disney’s Hollywood studios, the Walt Disney studios park at Disneyland Paris or the tower of terror at Tokyo Disney sea which has no connection to the twilight zone
They should make the Mission Breakout cast members wear the Tower Of Terror bellhop costumes every halloween when the ride turns into Monsters After Dark.

Well the Disney California Adventure TOT lives on in a small way in my recreation of the Tower of Terror in which I blended features of the Paris, WDW and DCA versions of my favorite ride.

Never got to ride it because I was too scared to ride it as a kid. But I did go to mission breakout in 2021.
I remember being so scared when I rode it. I was fine until my dad and sister got out of the line and it was just me and my mom. I still have the picture. By far the best Disney ride.

In hindsight,yes,it was sad it had to be replace,but at least it wasnt the floroda one,and you know were getting a marvel land...ooh and the twilight zone it isnt a disney own ip...im gessing they were gonna do it eventually
this was better than the florida version in my opinion. Avengers campus is pretty disappointing im here right now lol
you whiy the grand opining saterted late becus the ceo was in a meeting withe the pyrotechnics engineers to see if the fireworks were all redey and safe for the evint .
