Hannah Payne sentencing: Defense asks for leniency because she is 'young in age'

  • Earlier this week, the jury unanimously found Payne guilty on all eight counts, including malice and felony murder, false imprisonment and aggravated assault.

      I think it's his job. Many attorneys know their clients are guilty but their oath is to defend their client to the end. Otherwise nobody would have the right to a defence.

It’s also disrespectful to the court and I’m surprised he wasn’t admonished for his behavior.

    The kind of help Hannah gave I would never want. She took a life. Her upbringing showed that she had no respect for the law and that what she wanted to do was her right. She was crying for herself not the man she killed. She also lied and blamed the victim for his own death. What good in her heart? She hit and cursed at this man.

    The good in her heart should’ve started with her not pursing Kenneth Herring once she provided the license plate to the 911 dispatcher.
    As for defense attorneys, they’ll do/say anything, won’t they? Good people don’t shoot unarmed people after being told by a law enforcement representatives to cease following. Nevertheless, his argument was terrible.
    This stand your ground, open carry, concealed carry needs to be stopped. They’re all just loopholes for people to mete out justice as they see fit.

    From what I am understanding is that this "Accident" was between the victim and someone else and that the victim took off, and she took it upon herself to go after him.     The judge was soft on a cold-blooded killer who showed no remorse and still sees herself as a victim. In GA you can be released after 30 years on a life sentence and she only has to serve 1/3 of the additional 13 years. She can get out in 34 years and will only be 59.

    The family really should have spent more time and research finding a lawyer in those four years she was on bond. The case was pretty open and shut but this is one of the worst lawyers I’ve ever seen. Especially for such a high profile case.

    Heard a lot of criticism aimed at her lawyer, but honestly, the woman was guilty as sin. A blind man in a dark room could see that. So yes, he is awful, but what did he have to work with?
    The other thing is, I distinctly heard him say, in effect, that she is the product of her upbringing, and she did the things which resulted in the murder Mr Herring, because of that.
    So here's my point. Couldn't Mr Herrings family sue her and her family collectively, for depriving him of his life, and denying them the comfort of a loved one? I mean, if her lawyer said they're responsible for the mindset which resulted in her actions......

    There is clearly something not quite right with this guy. Does he have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder). I don't believe I have seen one single video where he isn't fidgetting with something. If it isn't his socks, its his cuffs. If not the cuffs then his tie. He doesn't seem to be able to sit straight in the chair. He moves the lecturn back and forth before returning it to the position it was in before he started on it. He was endlessly clicking his pen during his entire plea. I wondered if maybe it was a tactic designed to distract the jury, but I think that maybe he cannot help himself.

    So she got life with parole after 30 years, plus 5 and 8 for leaser charges to run consecutively. That to me is the same as Life without parole.

      The 13 years was for the weapon violations, and they were consecutive to the life sentence. So she must do a minimum of 43 yrs, before being eligible for release.
