The Japanese pop duo Dreams Come True released their album "The Swinging Star" in 1992. One of the songs was "Sweet Sweet Sweet", and at the time they were composing music for Sonic 2, so they used it as the ending theme. The song was later released in English under the title "Sweet Dreams", and this is a remix of it.
While the song itself originates from the same year as Sonic 2, and was probably written during its production, it's worth mentioning that they also made the music for Sonic 1.

That being said, the impression I've gotten from the information I could find that was Masato Nakamura originally wrote the tune for Sonic 2 and the lyrics were added later, rather than the other way around as the original comment implies.

Just finished Sonics Story and I forgot this was the end credits. I was SO confused like “am I still playing a sonic game?” 😂. Something I could immediately tell is that it was DEFINITELY made in the Late 2000s.
Akon remixes a love ballad written by a Japanese pop artist originally used as an end theme in a game about a blue cartoon hedgehog who defeats Teddy Roosevelt and his Death Star by collecting 7 ancient gems and turning Super Sayian.
And all versions of the love ballad are right proper bops.

Whenever I play this song it makes me think this game wasn't that bad after all. Since the day I first played this game, which was a long while ago I kinda liked the game. I was pretty young back when I first played this game and when you're young, you really don't hate a game like you don't really think about the bad things but no matter what the problems were, you still enjoyed it and played around 50 hours with it running around having fun. Now that we grow up we start to get annoyed by the bad things, we start to think that little bad things makes the game really bad. When I was really young, I thought any bad game was enjoyable has heck because these things really didn't matter to me because I didn't know that that flaw was bad. Now I grew up I realize why these bad things were annoying. But with all the nostalgia, after a few years no matter what problem, I still love those games like I did when I was like 2 or 6. You get a free cookie if you read this all.

also i agree i first played this game when i was 6 years old and saw it at gamestop and i loved this game so much and i still kinda do it was also the first sonic game i ever played im now 15 going on 16 in November and when i play this game i kinda get sentamental.
Funny thing is i liked this song the first time i heard it. And then someone told me where it was from and i slapped that person in the face and said "don't make jokes like that!". And then he showed me...i just went silent.

I mean I’m not a furry or anything, but people act like they made out and got physical and shit when all she did was kiss him lightly for like four seconds and it was over (and it wasn’t even tongue or anything). They never, like, *did* anything together, they were just really close.
Plus I mean you have to think: this is the Sonic world. These are anthropomorphic characters with human traits, intelligence, personality, emotions, etcetera. And this is a world where they casually coexist with humans and are treated like people. While it may seem weird in the meta, it's natural that interspecies relationships would happen in a world like that and are likely a common thing (not referring to s*x, but like just romance in general). It’s not like he’s someone’s pet dog. People just need to chill out.

This song is honestly kind of sad because it really shows what 06 could have been. We could have gotten this huge epic game, that may have been on part with something like SA2, they got Akon on the OST, not to mention all the other really good songs, but unfortunately, the game was just mishandled, rushed, and maybe a little two ambitious.

As a "retro" Sonic fan, I do have to say that I actually really like this song. Would have been better without Akon's pointless whatever it is that he's doing, but I actually really like it. The ending theme of Sonic 2 makes for a really great vocal melody. :)
The ONLY issue that I have is that when I think about the "couple" and the "love story" that this song is written for, I feel very, very awkward.

ngl yesterday was the first ever time I have heard this song, it startled me as I didn't remember hearing this in the credits as I thought it was going to play his world. i have seen my sister played this and never heard it but to be fair I have never see her nor me finish the sonic's episode until now when I finished it.
I feel like a lot hasn't heard this since you kinda have to play finish sonic's episode to hear it but then again nobody ever played the game other than just beat it like a dead horse.

After finding out last year that this EXACT SONG was in Sonic 2 after the amount of times I've beaten the game, it truly made me cry listening to this. I'm glad Sonic 06 existed. It's actually not a bad game. I liked it the first time I played it. Except for the kissing at the end.

@@Terminal_Apotos I also enjoy many aspects of this game despite its flaws (though I wouldn't count it among my favorites). As for the romance--Elise fell for Sonic because he treated her like a normal person, and he probably fell for her because of her kindness and courage (and because he thought her smile looked cute). As teenage romances in video games go, it's quite wholesome (except to weirdos who apply the standards of the real world to cartoonish fantasy settings, apparently).
I can't believe that they remixed the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 ending theme. It was my favourite Sonic The Hedgehog melody for years and the sole reason I kept playing sonic the hedgehog games (until Sonic Adventure, 2 etc...) My mates would piss take on me for having the midi on my phone but now I can piss them off with with a full length track with vocals. Thanks for the upload. I still can't believe they mixed it and added Akon (which by the way was a decent touch).
