Can MotorKote survive the water test? Let's find out!

  • MotorKote claims that it's not an additive, but rather a friction reducer. The product also claims that even water won't wash it away. In fact, removing metal is the only way to remove MotorKote. So, let's test the claims of this product by pretreating the crankcase with MotorKote and then replacing MotorKote with water to see if the engine will survive for an entire hour without any damage.

    That the engine ran that long without oil is really astonishing. I was expecting 15 minutes max before it seized. To have run for a whole hour on water and then it be hard to tell if there's actually any damage or not is genuinely amazing.

    My late father had heard of MotorKote on a late night trucking show and immediately purchased a deal containing 2 gallons of product and 4 aerosol cans of a penetrating oil sharing the same name circa 2007. He used it as prescribed and seemed satisfied with both products.
    He passed away in 2010 at 59. I, being his only son, got everything including the Motorkote and used it as sort of a tribute until it ran out about 2017 or so (yeah 2 gallons will last awhile on 2 vehicles and a lawn mower).
    Anyway, I had never been thoroughly convinced of the products effectiveness Tonight, as I worked on the lawnmower, I just let CZcams guide the way and here we are. I feel obligated to see what the special are and rekindle a forgotten tribute to my daddy.

    Tell you an interesting story about my introduction in MotorKote. When this product first came out maybe 10yrs ago + or - . A friend of mine was machining some parts and he was trying to drill a hole into a block of steel on his press and kept on breaking carbide drill bits (very expensive) even though he was lubricating the bits. He had a bottle of MotorKote and we all said well lets try this stuff and he dipped a new carbide brill bit in MotorKote and the bit went through that steel block like butter!! We could not believe what we were seeing. He did it several more times on the other blocks with the same results and the bit was as sharp as ever. Just another use of MotorKote.

I changed installed new from napa 60.00 oil pressure sensor and 6 months it leaked out ALL my engine oil but, i run a royal purple, moterkote,synthetic lucas mix and i didn’t notice tell i seen oil on ground and oil was a dot on dip stick i had drove at least 60 miles with 2 qts of oil on my new 3.6 and temp rased a little but always came back down. To run an engine with water instead of oil is outrageous-- I love it, and a study with such "unusual" elements conceived by your brain doesn't surprise me at all, esp/ after watching dozens of your other videos.!!! If this is your idea, I actually was quite surprised the engine survived 60 minutes - I was secretly waiting on it to seize up. Maybe you could do this same experiment using Duralube. Your videos are in a category by themselves, and I have to admit that they're quite addictive, for starters.I have used the results of quite a few of your vids as a guide when purchasing certain items. I can't remember the company that did the analysis. It's been years ago. The analysis always came back as new oil, even with a lot of miles on it. There were notable differences in engine oil temp, trans temp, and differential temp.

No additive can prevent sludge from forming, any helpful chemical that does that is already in the oil. Sludge is caused by the unavoidable moisture that gets in the engine oil. Some additives claim to REMOVE sludge after it's formed, which I don't really believe. The only way to keep sludge at bay is change the oil. I have been using Motorkote for several years now and I really believe in this product. Everything from 70s Dodge Vans, boat motors, Gravely Tractors, Lawnboys, snowmobiles etc. I've had several impromptu tests. The first was a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am with about 150,000 hard miles on it that had all kinds of noises coming from it. I listened as I poured the specific dose into the running engine and to my surprise it got quiet! Second, was a mid 90s second hand Lawnboy 2 Cycle lawnmower that I purchased in a lot. It had the death rattle from day one and had slop in the shaft bearings. Well, whats done is done I figured so I decided I would mix a little Motorkote in with the gas every now and again and try to get what I could out of it. That mower ran 5 seasons for me due to what I feel was the Motorkote. Now, the test ended abruptly with it throwing it's connecting rod probably due to being repeatedly overheated and overstressed. Not good in some ways. The stuff is so good at what it does it could actually mask symptoms. The last test was my 1987 Yamaha Phazer snowmobile. I usually thow a little Motorkote in the gas tank and oil tank just as insurance. Well, two Winters ago it paid off. While out riding I noticed my exhaust pipe getting super hot. I thought perhaps a rodent had built a nest in it and it was just burning off. Well, about two miles more and I noticed a great loss of power and the heat was intense. The motor was not locked up but let's say it was tight. The oil pump on the oil injection system had quit unbeknownst to me! Thinking quickly I dumped the entire contents of the oil tank into the gas tank and waited for it to cool down. It started up and I ran it home at least 5 or more miles like that. Next day I performed hot and cold compression tests only to find that everything was still in specifications. Stuff smells really strange when it's burned in a 2 cycle and will probably end up killing me but it works! I'm not embellishing my story a bit. I mean I'm not surprised at all with your experiments. I have it in everything I own. Every third oil change on my street vehicles. I don't know what else to say. Seeing is believing. The Motorkote demonstration was enough to get me interested. The only time I would not recommend using it would be break-in on a new engine. You need heat and friction to seat piston rings etc. Good stuff folks! I'm not a paid endorser just a user.

    I have a series 60 Detroit in a 2000 Freightliner and run Motorkote in it as well as a (Golfcoast) bypass oil filter system instead of changing oil. I have over 350,000 mi on my oil and still clean. I change the bypass oil filter every 10 to 15,000 mi and engine oil filter every 30,000. And put Motorkote in it every 50,000 to 60,000 mi. An oil analysis is done every time I change the bypass filter. I have been told it's one of the cleanest Detroit's he is ever seen. And it has over 1.8 Million miles on it and only had the oil pan off twice. Once for a rear main seal and once for a bullgear at 1.7 Million miles. And for a diesel engine it is remarkably clean on the inside with very little soot build up. In fact when oil was new after the bullgear it was over 15,000 before it turned black, as diesels normally do.

    • @ProjectFarm

    • @truckinchihuahuaalvieschre2494
      @truckinchihuahuaalvieschre2494 Před 6 lety +16

      Jerry Wick it cleans oil way more than normal filters Golfcoast goes down to 1 micron which filters out large soot particles that is very abrasive to an engine. Regular oil filters does not filter much of this particle because if they did they would plug up and starve the engine for oil. However in a bypass system the oil flow coming out of the filter goes right back into the oil pan. Hence the name bypass filtration. It just takes a small amount at a time out of the main oil flow and filters it constantly. Some people make all these and oil Refinery system. But really all it does is just clean the oil a lot better than a regular oil filter and when you change the Gulf Coast system oil filter you have to replenish 3 gallons of oil which replenishes The additives. And this is also why you constantly do oil analysis. This is to tell you when your oil actually needs to be changed. And in some cases with this system there has been trucks out there with over a million miles without an oil change simply because you are basically changing the oil every 45 minutes as far as keeping it clean. This is also the reason why a diesel engine with a bypass filteration system is usually a cleaner engine. And in comparison when both ways have been done properly. (Change your Gulf Coast filter every 10 to 15,000 miles and your engine filter every 30,000 miles compared to changing your oil every 30,000 miles) the engine has always been shown to be cleaner with the bypass system.

    • @wills.5762
      @wills.5762 Před 6 lety +7

      You still need to change the oil on a regular basis. Engine oil becomes acidic as it reacts with combustion byproducts, it doesn't matter how good your filtration system is. It will begin eating away at the engine.

    • @truckinchihuahuaalvieschre2494
      @truckinchihuahuaalvieschre2494 Před 6 lety +15

      Will S. Every 10,000 miles 3 gal of makeup oil fixes that problem when I change filters and the oil analysis would tell me if the acid is getting high and it has never shown high in fact it is always lower than it was when I was changing oil every 30,000 miles. That oil analysis also checks for any abnormal wear and the engine by checking for wear medals. And my where rate is actually lower than normal where rates. Otherwise I wouldn't have 2 million miles on that engine and over 1.2 million miles on the overhaul

Before fuel prices went through he roof! Now, I don't have another vehicle. So I only have one to drive. And, being an OLD(50+yr.) mechanic, I listen to every sound this thing makes. This small(3oz.) amount of MotoKote definitely made this old transmission shift more positively. (not that it was bad. but it was better after adding the MotorKote). 00:47 - For a moment, I thought the data sheet said 2,2,4 trimethylpentane, but it's actually "2,4,4 trimethylpent-1-ene" which is an alkene, not an alkane. The former (2,2,4 trimethylpentane) is the standard used for the 100 octane rating (RON) for petrol. That's why I got confused because it looks similar. C8H18 vs C8H16. Chemistry gets confusing very quickly!
    EDIT: Not sure why they included it in the additive, though. Alkenes are reactive hydrocarbons and like to polymerise under high temperatures. It's how they make plastics like polyethene, polypropylene, etc. Perhaps the chemical is able to penetrate deep into the machinery in a non-polymer state, then under higher temperature it'll polymerise, causing a polymer layer between components. Just a complete guess from a non-chemist! Probably completely wrong!

    Appreciate all your great videos and testing.
    I know you tested Motorkote quite a while ago and it seems that Motorkote has changed their formula a bit and the Oil seems to be a lighter and thinner than when you did this testing a while back.
    It would be nice to have you retest the most recent Motorkote formula...
    Thanks for all your thorough testing. Great videos!

    PLEASE test more of this Motorkote stuff! It's almost too good to be true. Would be especially interested in seeing if it has chlorine like so m any are saying.
    Would be interesting to see how it improves the top 5 oils from your showdown!
    ALSO, You should do the friction test for ALL of your oils with the post hotplate oil to see how much the protection changed after excessive heat.
    KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

      Yes the chlorinated element MOTORKOTE is alleged by do many to contain if you could test for this and show what it contains would go a long way in proving that your not payed to promote. And also a list of the chemical content after a 3000 mile run with motor oil sample test. I did notice you have not personally used MOTORKOTE in any of your own vehicles?

      Got an old Dodge Dakota that's been running on motorkote now for 5 years no oil pressure at idle. Bought another truck for the engine figured why change it as long as this one still running. Really figured I'd change it by now but other than the oil light coming on in an idle and the oil pressure gauge going to zero you'd never know anything was wrong with it. And before you say anything the oil pressure gauge is a mechanical gauge not the electrical gauge it literally has zero oil pressure at idle and only about 10 lb going down the highway. And yes I have worked this truck on more than one occasion. In fact it actually pulled the donor truck home that has its engine replacement in it 4 years ago. Just happened so that was the truck that I weighed on a truck scale and a Truck Stop on a bet that Dad thought we was overweight. My exact gross weight was 11,960 lbs. I believe that worked that v6 pretty hard. And it really didn't care.

      I'd be more for a amsoil motorkote sauce mix than use seafoam or marvel, they are both outdated for their designed uses and work better as cleaners than as high pressure lubricants. Sea Foam I know is naptha based which is a powerful oxidizer, usually used to speed up oil based enamel paint cure time. As for Marvel, I know of engine builders of flat head engines liked to use it in the coolant system to get the bolts out of the heads... fill the coolant system full of marvel and run it till its hot, head bolts and water jacket bolts come out much easier without snapping them. Sea foam we've seen it work as a cleaner as Mr Farm tested, also saw restore bring a tractor back to life, as for marvel, I just wouldn't go around putting stuff in your crankcase, especially newer engines that was first marketed in the early 1900's.... 'shrug' but if you have an engine you don't care goes boom, do your own testing like this guy, this guy does amazing testing, i look forward to every video... especially oil ones.

I own 3 cars between 100k miles and 280k miles, 2 things I have noticed so far my miles per gallon went up tiny bit 1 - 2 mpg and the winter tic I would hear on my 1999 Grand Prix and the 2006 Grand Prix has gone away. I mix it with full synthetic oil and change it every 5000 miles, easier to remember that way when your changing on the 5's. I also add a 2 ounce of MotorKote with every oil change so some is always in there protecting my engines. Use it in my lawnmower as well. I recommend your channel to all my friends and family.

    I used simillar type hyper lubricant called Militec-1 in high performance radio control racing boats, up to 45 thousand rpm 1KW on 4mm shaft and 6 minute races. Most of my opponents used regular oli every 6 minutes and still had problem with lubrication, dissasembled shafts and replaced many times, some time it lasted only 6 minutes and then they replaced everything. If they forgot to disassembly, dry and lubricate again before night it rusted and stuck many times next day. Personally I gave one spray shot of milltec-1 to my shaft before race and thats all, my bearings was fine after one season of training and racing (a year 30-50 runs x 6 minutes) and never had to dissasembled shaft due of lubrication problems. No rust at all and sometimes even I forgot a spray shot to my shaft and nothing bad happened. Bearings will last much longer I think but i replaced it in main service every year just in case.
