    BestBuy quoted me $120 to install an $80 rear camera. After watching this video I think it's worth every cent! Thank you.

    Good video - Instead of drilling a hole through the hatch, I removed one of the plastic grommets and filed the hole a little bit to work the wiring through that way, and used a quarter inch thick/penny diameter plumbing flange to help seal it from moisture.

    Very valuable video, thank you! I am struggling to make my backup cam working on a 2010 legacy with the Pioneer SPH-DA160DAB Radio. Now I know where I made the mistake and guess I can make it work next week. Cheers!

    So I bought my Subaru used with a back up camera similar to this already installed. Recently I haven’t been able to get any signal to the camera, and it hasn’t been working. Any ideas where to look first fixing it?

    what the the cable color for the brake? Do you know if 2011 Subaru Impreza 2.5i has the same cables for reverse and brake close to the radio unit?

    Wouldn't it have been better to run power from the reverse light harness to the back-up camera versus having constant power being sucked-out of the stereo harness that you connected to?

    If you buy your stuff from Crutchfield they are amazingly helpful and know their stuff. Not sure how the Crosstrek hatch opens but on the outback this type of camera would block access to the button that releases the hatch.

      What kind of camera did you end up purchasing? I'm looking for a camera now and I didn't think of that - but it would definitely interfere with the button on my hatch door.

    Is there an alternative to fishing the wire and NOT drilling into the body of the car? I'm doing a 2006 Subaru Tribeca.

    • @humbughumbughumbug
      @humbughumbughumbug Před 5 lety +1

      Probably yes. This generation XV had a rubber grommet he could have punched a hole through where the stock backup camera would have wired through. So look for this rubber grommet, bung, or plug above the license plate area in the plastic shroud.
      Also, if you DO drill a hole in the metal, don't only use primer! Paint it! Primer is hydrophilic and it might accelerate the rusting process underneath it!
      Happy modding!

    • @jossuemorales8920
      @jossuemorales8920 Před 5 lety +2

      I just made a little hole like mouse hole in the plastic cover next to the switch that open the back door, not in the metal.

      @@humbughumbughumbug Do you know if an additional harness is needed to use steering controls?

    • @humbughumbughumbug
      @humbughumbughumbug Před 4 lety

      @@JavierSavalos For the radio? No... But technically yes 😂
      (NOTE this is specifically for getting the SW wires for headunits like Chinese Android models) The wiring harness you buy (Metra or Axxess) is probably missing a few wires for SW+ and SW- which you might need to buy a second harness to sacrifice/pull two wires from to move over to the harness you'll use.
      There's also smaller Amazon sellers that sell a fully populated (custom) harness to include SW wires, Canbus, etc. but you have to search for them.
