  • Details of the parts and function of a 9" Android Infotainment system in my 2005 Subaru Outback.
    After filming this video, I was able to solve my issue with connecting to Android Auto by updating the software on my phone. So now that function is working great!

    Can I just say how helpful this video was? Just bought this for my 06 Legacy, and knew from watching this video that there were some necessary modifications that would have to be made, so thanks to this video I was prepared to tackle that, and with a game plan to follow as well thanks to this video. I've got one vent side done, and starting on the other, and it made it so handy to know what modifications to make, and save time on the install. Thank you very much as there is not much if any install info on these units.

    How did you go from the default screen to the one with the Subaru logo? I've messed around with the logo setting in the Settings app a bit, no luck so far. Also, could I just wire this to the AUX coming out of the original head unit if I didn't care about external USB usage or use of say an iPod like you did? Really happy you made this video, I'm in the process of installing in an 07 Outback LL Bean Ed. and ran into the HVAC vent issue.

      Thanks! There's a gear icon in the lower right corner of Agama Car Launcher. It's the settings for the program. If you tap on that and then choose your car's make, which is the first item in settings, you can select the Subaru Icon. On the Agama main screen, if you are getting anything but a logo, tap on the center of the screen and you can choose many different things to display in the center, the logo is one of them. I would wire this as I did no matter what. I wouldn't want to loose the stock features (radio and CD player) of my head unit.

      @@lukeheestand2144 I haven't tried tethering with this unit. You don't have to have all the same info and apps in two places. It's nice to use all the contacts in your phone for addresses and phone numbers instead of having to put them into the car system. I also like to listen to podcasts and if I use Android Auto, I can listen to part of the podcast in my car and then when I'm out of the car, I can pick up where I left off through listening to my phone. I don't have to search for where I was in the podcast. Also, my wife can get in the car, plug in her ipone, and have her own music and contact preferences without having to enter her info and can just plug in and go.

    So, I went to install mine today and I couldn't get it working how you had yours. I have a couple of questions. What modifications to the wiring harness did you do to get it to work like that? Which radio plugs did you use, the white one in the radio? Where did you plug in the red & white audio cables on the harness into? We tried alot of different combinations and nothing worked how I was hoping that it would. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

    • @justaddafan
      @justaddafan  Před 2 lety +1

      The way I wired my car, the audio signals go into the aux of the head unit so you have to have a head unit with AUX obviously. You have to purchase the connector for the rear interface of the AUX head unit and make a harness with female RCAs on the other end so that the Android unit can run it's preamp signals to it. There are instructions on the Subaru Legacy forums. This leaves the wiring harness from the stock head unit into the stock body harness untouched. Then you just add power to the android unit and an antenna splitter so you can run antenna signal to both the head unit and the android unit.

      Hi. Thanks for watching!. You need the antenna to run to whichever receiver is going to be playing the radio. Both units if you want them both to have the capability. I have kind of an odd question:
    First of all this is exactly how I want to hook up mine (retain OEM stereo function)
    - Do you have to adjust 2(or 3) volumes with the method? Meaning phone bluetooths or USB’s to CarPlay unit (have a volume setting on your phone), then the new unit is treated as an aux my the old unit so on new unit your adjusting volume, finally on the OEM unit is your “master” volume. I absolutely abhor trying to balance aux in volume on 3.5mm or Bluetooth speakers it’s the master volume. Aka keeping one at 3/4 for the best sound quality and so on.
    Thanks for making this video

    • @justaddafan
      @justaddafan  Před 8 měsíci

      There are separate volume settings for each input in the Android OS and there is also a master volume on the unit (buttons are on the face. You can also adjust the default volume of the AUX relative to the radio in the Subaru head unit. I have them all set more or less at comfortable levels. Now I only manage volume with the main knob on the head unit (or steering wheel buttons)
