I was in a pub years ago and Wrighty and 4 other Arsenal players were there. My mate asked Wrighty for an autograph. He got up and walked out the pub,my mate was gutted because he loved Wrighty. 5 minutes later he came back with a bunch of pictures so he could give him a signed photo instead of just signing a beer Matt. Personally I hated him being a Chelsea fan and he always scored the winning goal against us. But must admit that day he showed what a legend he was and how down to earth he is.

The Thing that Roy has to remember though is most of his success wasn’t down to him.
Yes he was a great midfielder but it was the cheque book that kept Man Utd on top with a world class manager not him. He was just in the team he wasn’t catalyst to the team winning.

Not only is she so knowledgeable about the game, obviously, and she’s clearly so articulate, but she also has an amazing moderating skill. She’s able to steer the conversation, bring up new and interesting angles, and she seems to be such an active listener. So impressive. Keep her on please!! One of City’s greatest ever legends too!!

The Rest is Football is a fantastic show but this is just as good. Wrighty lifts everything he's part of, Keane is great when he's relaxed like this, Carragher and Scott are very informative & entertaining and Gnev is just nailing his transition into each new thing he does. Fantastic
It is just easy to agree that The Overlap and The Rest is Football are kinda currently the best football programs out there at the moment. Relaxed, insightful, humorous and from my perspective, honest.

Who’d of thought Roy Keane post football and management would be a quick witted gem on these type of shows.
His humour is so dry it’s brilliant. Always loved Wrighty too. No surprise that he and Keane have been big mates for years even living together during the world cups and Euros punditry teams
It's this group I think , I think he enjoys being with them , he has never been like this in his punditry in the past , but he has come out his shell the last couple of years ,,I think its probably like being in the dressing room , they take the piss and he gives it back. His quick witted replies are funny.
you have to give props to Gary and Sky for putting this out there. All the characters are likeable, funny and there's something pleasurable about watching a group of people with a common passion enjoying each other's company. Looks to be the start of something very special and I'm sure football fans are really appreciating this.
I really love the chemistry between these players. Of course Keane and Wright are goldust but Jill,Carragher and Neville are absolutely brilliant. Hats off to Gary ,the stick he gets from Keane and others and the way he takes it and laughs it off makes him a very very likeable man.
I've just screencapped the frame when Keano pours Wrighty a coffee and Wrighty gives him the thumbs up, to print and put on my garage wall. I genuinely had a tear in my eye. The thought of that image happening when I was growing up in the 90s would have been insane. I would walk through walls for those two.

Jamie is spot on with his assessment of how football and footballers can’t handle criticism of itself and themselves. We’re always going OTT when it comes to praise of players who, for the most part, are usually under achieving. Footballers are molly coddled into believing they are above criticism now that they react so badly to it and Sancho unfortunately is a prime example of this, I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s surrounded by a ton of yes men, a ton of advisors and agents and people leeching off of him telling him he’s always right, it’s a shame but unfortunately this is pro football and you’re on £300k a week at the most scrutinised club in the land, toughen up or leave

This is why he could not manage in this era. While I don't think the hair dryer/throwing tea cups and kicking boots into Beckham's face will ever be acceptable in this era, constructive criticism should not be conflated with 'bullying'' or lack of consideration for mental health and well being. If a player is not performing, then they cannot expect praise!

Whenever Roy talks abt training properly, I can't help but think about Denis Irwin. Trained properly, rarely injured, could play left back, right back, get you a goal, good at set pieces.

One of the most noticeable things about the Lionesses was in the semi v Australia, it was unbelievably impressive how composed they all were after scoring. Sure they were happy but they contained it, stayed focused on the job and kept the proper joy for the final whistle. Class. Clearly coached, clearly disciplined. Champion mentality.

Since we have this group of carragher, neville who for me is the very best pundit imo , Wrighty and Micah Richards , ive never seen Roy so happy, this group have brought the best out of him , even Jill chipped in and made him laugh, maybe because it's a bit like the dressing room for him and he feels happier.
Years ago Roy would argue and be intense , I dont think in the 10 years of that era of his punditry i ever saw him smile and I think he tried to play up to his old reputation a little bit.
What I see now is the other lads all have a laugh they take the piss and Roy wouldn't last with his attitude , I think he has embraced this new group and has a laugh now , ive never ever seen Roy chuckle asmuch , im no united fan , but he is actually a really likeable guy , I dont think he ever was around people to learn how to laugh with the lads , apparently he really was a loner outside of football , i think he married young and had responsibilities, so probably missed out.
I never thought he could take Micah Richards , who is like Tigger at times bouncing around grabbing Roy , I thought Roy was either gonna hit him on air or resign , but micah has been good for him.
This type of show is what's been missing on TV , The Overlap has been an excellent project , no one would have known about what Dele Alli went through , Neville has got that empathy and likeability to be able to sit and talk about stuff like that.

The last 10 minutes where the panelists speak about their hardest player and coaching experiences is gold. It makes you realize how mentally and emotionally difficult football is at the highest level. Mind you, these players in their prime were legends. It also makes you realize all the difficult stories we don't hear about when a coach gets sacked because football just moves on.
What a fantastic show, watching / listening to it in Melbourne Australia. Brilliant Topics, great analysis and Banter cannot wait for Ep2.
