    Thanks for the ride. When I was kid I used to go to Cuba with my Dad on business trips.
    Like to go back.
    • Cheers from Michigan

    Yeah, I was sure they wouldn't run that Brill car over that track but they did and the old car just walked over it. Amazing !!!

  • @Condorcounter
    @Condorcounter Před 8 lety +5

    It seems the Brill cars are mothballed and can no longer operate on their own. All trains are now run using the handed down Spanish equipment. One of the steeplecab electric locomotives may still be active, but the little remaining freight (like sugar cane molasses cars to the Santa Cruz Del Norte rum plant) hauled by diesels. Hope that lots of American railfans have the opportunity to ride the rails after 2016 and the service is not replaced by cars and buses.

    Ese tren es de cuando cuba era libre

  • @pavelizquierdorodriguez7431

    El más exacto de los trenes, reconocía Granma, hoy olvidado, en un país sin recursos, dónde éste hubiera seguido siendo el medio ideal para viajar de La Habana a Matanzas y viceversa. Cuánta nostalgia por este tren olvidado.

    Hmmm... Your're right, they do look kinda weird. But, I believe they're at an angle like that because the road crosses at an angle. But, one may ask why the gates aren't down when the rail cars are crossing. Well, it is Cuba !!!

    Ahhh.... 7:42, right. My you have sharp eyes! That was a boarding platform for the newer Spanish rail cars you see passing the older Brill cars. BTW, those Spanish cars still carry passengers!

    We were on a railfan tour so I don't know what the airfare was. We left from Miami for Havanah. Most flights for Americans traveling legally leave from Miami. There are now many "legal" tours that go to Cuba. Traveling on your own you will see the real Cuba whereas on a tour you will see the tourist Cuba.Good luck ... OScaler1

  • @MegaZsolti
    @MegaZsolti Před 11 lety

    Ha. Probably they were torn down because it was made a smaller station with no crossing guard to use them. The bigger ones like Santa Clara have guard controlled half barriers at the level crossings.

  • @grahamsawyer831
    @grahamsawyer831 Před 3 lety

    Oh wow can you still do this???

  • @MegaZsolti
    @MegaZsolti Před 11 lety

    I wasn't talking about the platform, I was talking about the gates. One on the left and on the right side.
    What's the matter with them? They look funny, pointing to the left.
    (I have sharp eyes for crossing signals)

      Well, actually they're still there running around with Japanese diesel motors. Many of them beautifully restored.

      tuyocuyo
      Well, I don't think this is the proper forum for political discussions. I don't agree with the blockade and the sooner it's done with the better for all. But this is a tourist video of a wonderfully preserved electric line that many of us enjoy. We enjoy the old cars too, however they were saved.

    • @Sohave
      @Sohave Před 10 lety +1

      tuyocuyo I think that is up for discusion, Most of the people in Cuba who don't fancy driving old American cars got theirs traded in for a lada back when Cuba had such a program.When I was in Cuba 50% of the cars were newer Lada or Moskwich. The majority of the old US cars in Cuba is well kept and is driven as a choice.

    How come the Hershey sugar mill is closed? Do they have another plant instead? or is sugar not a commodity anymore. Just trying to learn about Cuba.

    • @OScaler1
      @OScaler1  Před 10 lety +2

      There are many sugar mills in Cuba but most of them were closed after the Soviet Union left Cuba high and dry. The huge Hershey mill was one of theml. BUT they have preserved the Hershey electric line as well as numerous steam locos that hauled the sugar cane and many little short rail lines for tourist use.

    Half barriers ??? Don't know what half barriers you're refering to unless there the concrete barriers at the end of the last scene where the rail cars are coming into the station. Those were obviously to keep the auto traffic off the rail line ..... BillC
