- These are truly unprecedented times, and sometimes we all need a hero. A symbol to raise morale and inspire. But who exactly is the Ghost of Kyiv? Does he even exist? The ghost of Kyiv is a Ukrainian fighter pilot credited with over 6 Russian kills, which would make him the first ace of the 21st century. Thanks to the internet, we're hearing stories as they unfold, and I can't think of a more interesting story than the mythical Ukrainian fighter pilot ace patrolling the skies of Kyiv.

Here in Ukraine, in our garrison we all think we know who this pilot really is and what is his name. But don't have solid proofs, just his colleagues telling us what they know. So i am rather keen on believing that "GOK" exists and he is alive and well.

A very good pilot or even a squadron that achieved huge success, immediately elevated to legend to give people hope at the very (dark) beginning, just like the Snake Island soldiers were immediately made into martyrs. Yes, until this is all over, we won’t know for sure, but there is no evidence that he exists.
All the evidence is fabricated and even the basic premise doesn’t make sense. In the early hours of the war, when the ghost became an ace, the Russian hadn’t taken enough air losses. Early numbers were around 8, but in your pictured source there were 5 planes that were shot down in the first two days of the war. Only 1 of which matches the 6 planes that the ghost is credited with bringing down.
Until more information comes out, it’ll seem that the ghost of Kyiv , like his namesake, is mythical.

@@carte-noire It’s definitely not the “right pronunciation”. When in doubt, I think its always safe for English speakers to use the English pronunciation :). The Russian pronunciation is keav. The Ukrainian pronunciation is Keev. It’s a subtle difference for someone who isn’t a native speaker but there’s definitely no “rrrr” sound.

Our family is from the Austria Hungry and Lower Selisa. That's how we pronounce it and most of my family on one side were fluent in Slovak

He’s a more experienced pilot apparently but the story isn’t impossible let alone improbable. The two Sukhoi 25’s are relatively easy targets for the mig. The other two Sukhoi 35’s are a different story but the mig is a lighter aircraft. The mig 29 was the most equal match. Considering that most Russian pilots only get 100 hours of training flight time a year compared to the 200 most nato pilots get already gave the Ukraine pilot the edge. If he also has natural talent as a pilot then his victory is not so far fetched.
