This video dropped just in time!! I'm gonna install my MTE hub this weekend!
We believe in your stator dropping abilities, now!!
For those of us who are a little bit new-ish, it would be rad if there was a quick bit on the pros and cons. Thank you, as always!
fr
I was thinking the same thing.
Much better offroad because you have heaps more sidewall. This gives more cushion over bumps, drops ect. Also your board won't be kicked sideways so much when you hit the tire one just one side. Cons.... none really?
@@Jack20585only cons are less tire options
@@RagnarKon thank you for the info, much appreciated!
Ohhh that tire though…can’t wait to see this for a 5” & 6” hub! 🤩
“Hold it with both your feet… and you wanna slowly slowly go down in… and it’s gonna suck on down real fast” - Jeff, 2023
Hahaha I didn't depressurize it when he first sent it to me and it was wild hahaha
Love this thing every single time i ride it. Paired with the 555 enduro i'm loving it. It really hits all the marks without compromise!
Thanks! I just installed the 52. Very informative tutorial. Thanks again.
ive been telling my wife this for years ;)
Question for Jeff: have you ever attempted to do pcb and solder repairs?? Reflows etc ? Asking cause i cant imagine why you wouldnt if youve got parts kicking around.
You guys are the reason why gts are "good" instead of "okay" excellent product
FOMF. :)
Got it all together in about an hr, wasn't bad but I had a harder time getting the cover to seat into the hub, and to use a lot of pressure. Everything works great and it's super smooth so I guess I didn't mess anything up 😅
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Can't wait to see the video about the new tire!
I love my 5 inch hub. Best upgrade. Game changer.
Does it make sense to slide the tire on to the hub before mounting the hub plate?
Yeah that's the easy way to do it
Great video! For installing tires come with the bundle, do you recommend putting the tire in first before dropping the stator in the hub? Thank you!
Literally just set up my bench to do this. Perfect timing
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Sweet dude!
I missed the drop is there any specific date next month for restocks? 😢
How much speed is sacrificed for the n52 torque? I dont go up to pushback often because the roads here arnt great, would i even notice the loss of speed or would it be all reward
Yeahhhh I’m gonna need some details on that tire.
Wow, thats preety easy, I've been putting it off because I thought I would need a bearing puller...
Why not include a few O rings with the kit? Not a huge cost.
Or even have it as a drop-down option like bearings, as a reminder, be really annoying to have to stop the install if they needed replacing
That tire tho 🎉🎉
Were these all sold out via email beforehand? I never saw them in stock on the site
That is a spicy tier 👌 🎉
So 5 and 3/4" is ok? Yess!
Love the caption 😂
What is that tire?? (5 inches is more than enough 🤣🤣Thanks you Jeff, I feel much better now)
Doing this install now and currently having trouble putting the axel back into the locks with the smaller rim space. Any advice?
Dumb question, but when you drop the stator into the new hub, and it gets sucked in, will the axel kind of just line up and go through the hole?
My N52 MTE is supposed to be arriving tomorrow and I’m starting to think this may be above my pay grade. Kind of nervous about installing it.
aaahhhhhh I need that RUBBAH!!!!
I think I know what you say but which is better, MTE 5 inch hub or 5 inch billet? What's the contrast?
The advantage with the MTE then is that you can get standard tires? What other advantages are there? Thank you.
Theres much more "sidewall" to a tire with the same diameter, so it makes trail riding feel very smooth, and a suspension feeling
I wanna get the GT-s and get the MTE with 52 and a Hoosier 11.5. 5-5 (I think)...but, I have no care to ride trials, and do tricks, I mostly cruise street...I just want feel safe ant any speed and get the most excelleration up and down small hills as possible...Would this setup really benefit me? I never cruise over like 15 mph, but would love to feel safe and in control at 20 MPH...
Does this have any effect on motor temperature, riding the 5" hub vs the stock hub in identical conditions? Besides getting some extra suspension with the higher sidewall tire, are there any other performance impacts?
I asked this in an earlier video and they said the motor temperatures were good in their testing. Despite there being less material to act as a heat sink the thermals might be better as it's anodised (larger surface area) instead of powder coated (which traps heat in).
@@HoverHev Thanks for that info and perspective. The way they replied you - "temperatures were good" - doesn't fully answer my question. Maybe the motor didn't overheat to the point of failure in their testing but I want to know if and by how much the temperatures went up over stock hub, everything else equal. TFL - please answer this question!!!
NEW TIRE
So what exactly are the pros of having this? And also what are the cons compared to the stock hub?
You can fit any 5" gokart tire (of which we have a lot more in Europe than 6") even fit the lawnmower tires 😅 So more, and cheaper tire options.
👍👍
So is that the new winter tire!?!?
Would you want to use blue lock tote to stop screws coming off.
I wouldn't suggest using Loctite anywhere near plastic
What’s everyone’s thoughts on adding Statorade when doing the install?
Hey, could I also use it for Growler WTF Varials?
Yup
lol i see new tire and they look great.
Fyi mechanic here: If you think about it the stator doesn't move everything else moves around it. Stator=stay, If you need a way to remember what part of an electric motor it is😊
MTE is so sick but i got my eyes on pioneer
why not both?
So what is pioneer? Nothing came up in a google search.
@@JorgeMoli if you watch the end of the video, he shows it
Ah ok. Thanks for the heads up. I tend to stop the videos after they seem to be over to stop the auto play from moving me to another video before I read the comments.
I take it from Jeff’s reply then the pioneer will also come in 5” size then.
Can we talk about that tire 👀
Oh he talked about it
What tire? , this is a nice looking rubber convex tube r *** rides slowly away *** 😊
Wait, you guys managed to make it fit with cold ones? I couldn't make them fit!
I also want to know this
IIRC, I think they might have 5" hub specific cold ones on the way? Definitely don't quote me on that one lol
So will I need to take the hub plate off each time I want to change the tire?
Nope
It's a lot easier to take the plate off. I spent two hours trying to put that darn tire on the hub. I used dish soap and heat, but nothing worked. Finally, I decided to take the plate off, and the tire slipped on without a problem. It was also the soft compound, so I couldn't imagine how hard it would be with the mid compound.
I just tried to remove my tire the normal way and found it nearly impossible, switched to pulling the plate and was still a little annoying to slide tire across hub to remove it. Will pull the plate next swap 🤙
bro! that tire tho?!?!?!
If you’re just riding street… is there any point going to the 5inch?
Any suspension is good suspension. dropping curbs, hitting potholes or cracked concrete, helps cushion it all.
What happened @ 5:23? Did you send that bolt into oblivion??
PSA for all the anxious doggos out there, IRL 4:09 is L-LOUD... scared the absolute baajeezusses outta my dog!
What does MTE stand for?
More Than Enough
Bets on how long before FM steals your idea and moves to some proprietary 5.25” hub.
What is the purpose of a smaller hub?
@@RagnarKonso could you do the same thing with your XR stater with your pint hub?
What is MTE?
@RagnarKon I know. I should have asked what MTE stands for.
@@RagnarKon i was just wondering because last year my xr got hit by a car and the hub got cracked and i have a regular pint just laying around but all i've ever done DIY is change my tires
@@ix_ix_Yup! XR stator fits in Pint hub no problem, my main board is actually running that setup. Pint hub is just slightly more narrow than XR hub, which can slightly alter the shape of tires a bit (how it alters is different tire to tire, but generally it rounds it out just a tad more)
Seems like everyone is onboard (pun intended) with this upgrade but, is there an unbiased, unjaded explanation as to why FM uses a 6" hub at all? I mean, if 5" is nothing but pros?
FM uses a 6.5" hub on the GT. They have never explained why, but it's pretty obvious they wanted a proprietary size
@@TheFloatLife So, pure capitalism? Is it just replacement tires then? I mean, at this point, almost ten years in, it doesn't seem like they're making much money on it. Is this just a failed policy? Or are they sacrificing PR for profit in the long run?
What’s the benefits of a smaller hub?
thats what im wondering
Jeff are you a Linus from LTT related?? Y’all look like you could be cousins or something
Man, its so frustraiting seeing these videos like not even 24 hours after they drop and everything being sold out already. 😭
There was only 20 on this run, next one is 200 or so, so don’t sweat it
Quick note: To achieve the star pattern just screw down every other screw a little bit at a time in clockwise or counterclockwise motion around the plate.
Meatiest, Tastiest, Excellentest
