      I think Shivaji Maharaj was not running an minority empowerment scheme as some of the points of guest suggest. He was just following his Dharma as a king. He was appointing Muslims or Christians to work for him is due to meritocracy not for optics purposes. He gave capital punishment to many who killed cows, if im not wrong.
      Don't know why some Hindus have this zeal to show that he was so "secular". He was a proud Dharmik king. 🙏

    • @kevinborse9971
      @kevinborse9971 Před rokem +4

      @@bhnuc meritocracy over religious bias is what secularism actually means. Shivaji maharaj also gave capital punishment to those who disrespected others religion as well. My friend, secularism term just means protection of every religion on the basis of right or wrong, not a bias. During those time, minorities faced the most unjust situation, hence to protect the sense of justice he used to support them totally on the basis of meritocracy not caste bias, but during those times the aristocrats thought this action meant supporting the minorities over the overall subjects. Secularism is a good thing for every religion, you seem to be confused with its definition.

    A message for all the Marathas and people of Shivaji Maharaj here :
    Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj dedicated his whole life building our empire and to save it from foreign powers, so now it's our responsibility to live together and end our internal quarrels and protect our empire or State from declining it's cultural value because of western influence or globalisation. Save our culture and traditions as they teach us a lot about our past & are very important in our life and in fact they are our identity. We should be grateful that a King like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born on our land and preserve, protect and promote his legacy. Never be ashamed about our culture and tradition.

    language.
    3- He made his own naval fleet with the help of British and portuguese thats why he was known as "father of navy" and he also starts foreign trade.
    4- He gave the message that sometimes if u want to win the war take a step back .

      He did not support "secularism" in the sense we understand secularism today. A masjid was erected on top of a temple, he brought down the masjid and reconstructed the temple in its place. One of his Sardar was Sanatani who had been forced to convert to Islam. Shivaji then made sure his Sardar came back in the Sanatani fold.
      Point being, he wasn't a racist, terror!st jihad! like Aurangzeb. But was a strong promoter of Hindavi Swaraj. He did not compromise his own ideals/values for appeasement of non Hindu values.

Chatrapati Shivaji's Guru was samarth das who met Guru Hargobind sahib ji in Srinagar in 1634 and after he fought battle of Amritsar against mukhlis Khan and Sikhs won that battle , It was an inspiration for samarath das and guru Hargobind sahib ji instructed him to motivate his maratha people to fight against mughals and pick up weapons. Great podcast, and great scholarship by Vaibhav, however Vaibhav should've talked about some of Shahji's achievements as well for context, Shahji was the most powerful general in Ahmadnagar sultanate, he was regent(almost de facto ruler)of Ahmadnagar sultanate for almost a decade (the Sultan wasn't adult)and faced off with Aurangzeb. He learned importance of forts from his fights with Mughals, Shahji later advised Shivaji Maharaj to construct capital at Raigarh fort. Shahji joined Bijapur after Ahmadnagar fell to Mughals, he was awarded Banglore Subha by Bijapur. There he had established great administration, promoted farming and other industries, as a result Banglore become one of the wealthiest province. Shivaji Maharaj implemented similar policies in Maharashtra. Shahji started conducting his Banglore court in Marathi and Sanskrit alongwith Persian. With all this background it's hard to deny Shivaji Maharaj was carrying forward work started by his father and was very successful at it.

    *1:00:17** Mocha is Port city in Yemen* famous for the 7 coffee seeds brought to India by Baba Budan. These 7seeds went on to become the coffee plantations in Karnataka (Baba Budan Hills) to Tamil Nadu & Kerala.
    The ottoman empire prevented the west from accessing land route to India which led them to come quite unhindered and without any tax via sea to India. They used to try to give purple velvet cloth (which hardly held any value in India) and letter from their govt to allow to trade for free. This and their pirate like behaviour infuriated the Zamorin who kicked them off from Kerala and they went to Goa and higher up to Mumbai & Surat.

      Shivaji Maharaj was definately not running an minority empowerment or appeasement scheme as some of the points of this guest suggest.
      He was only following his Dharma as a king. He was appointing Muslims or Christians to work for him is due to meritocracy not for optics purposes. He gave capital punishment to many who killed cows, if im not wrong.
      Don't know why some Hindus have this zeal to show that he was so "secular". He was a proud Dharmik king. His values emanate from concept of Dharma, not European originated concept of secularism , which forced on this country in 1947. 🙏
      One authentic book you need to know everything about Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is - "Shivaji His Life and Times" By Gajanan B Mehendale.
      Just read it. You will have no questions on him after that.
