So I have the Mackie's and I think i prefer them to my PM3s not just the
dt990s. Got them pluged into a bifrost> vali 2 (EH 6CG7 Tube) High
Gain > Mackie mc-450s they destroy the 990s clean and actually I
think I prefer them to the PM3s they are an absolutely amazing set of
cans. The PM3s have the planar soudn and a bit of rumble which makes
them more fun with certain types of music but the Mackies just sound
right. I can't descrie it, but I consider these high end headphones

I got the Sivga because I trusted that if you liked it I probably would also, and I wasn't let down. Now that the honeymoon phase has ended on them, I still like them and will keep them. I'm not selling anything to replace them either, I'll just wait till I find something even more fun and I'm a sucker for wood cans. DMS can keep those 560s with it's paper thin low end. They were just not providing the sound as I ft was to be represented from some of my other, actual highline cans. Like my Focal Pros, or my M & D MH-40. Slightly off-topic for this video, but something I'd like to share. I was looking for a new portable dac/amp because my Topping NX4 spends most of its time at home connected to my laptop and powering t50rp mkIII or dt990 250ohm. Zeos not long ago mentioned the iFi Hip Dac, and since I often use the bass boost on the Topping I decided to give it a try. I'm enjoying it so much for portable use that after roughly 2 months of use I've ordered the Zen Can to keep at home.
TL;DR : fuck you Zeos for costing me money, but bless you for your work.

What professional studio environment actually uses high-end monitoring headphones? Most I've seen use relatively cheap ones like DT 240's, if they use "monitoring" headphones at all and not off-the-shelf speakers or headphones.

    • @paultisch3338
      @paultisch3338 Před 3 lety +1

I think the vast majority of audio engineers do all their mixing and mastering on speakers, and headphone use is mostly reserved for musicians while tracking (thus, closed-back) with the possible exception of occasional detail work that benefits from taking the room out of the equation. However, if mixing/mastering at home in a less-than-ideal room for speakers, cans like these are probably a solid replacement. Headphones are probably also good to use for editing film/radio/podcast audio.

Mackie is a company I respect but will never buy from... I give 0 fugs about monitoring equipment. I will say I sit at a local pro audio retailer that has a "monitoring studio" that you can demo their equipment at. I listened to the Yammy HS8, Audio A8X, and Focal Solo6 BE 6.5s and they were all quite impressive. Obviously each stepped up from a $350 per speaker to $750 to $1500 per but you could clearly hear the difference as you stepped up. I had fun demo'ing them for 90 min but not sure I would want to spend the cheddar to have them at my desk.

Wtf, I thought these are supposed to be "an affordable DT1990"? $300 and look cheap af. If that wasn't bad enough the sound demo makes it seem like an even worse deal. Isn't that headband the same thing that was on an old $28 headphone reviewed a long time ago? The sound demo definitely doesn't compare to a DT1990 either. There is clearly some funkiness going on if the sound demo is anything to go by.

They definitely inherit from the Somic MH463, which is not something that I would say durable

The sound demo means nothing. I do not even know why Zeos or anyone even bothers with them. There is absolutely nothing to be gained from listening to a sound demo of a headphone you do not own on a headphone or speakers you do own.

    Its quite weird.
I tried those same headphones at namm2020.
    They were uncomfortably bright.
The high mids and the highs were so sharp and not in a good way.
And the bass sounded boomy and one not, as if the driver is slow to react.
Just like the ndh20 in this regard smooth boomy bass, and not fast transients ,it smears some details, that you can hear clearly on the dt1990 for example.
Also the ndh20 has a peak in the treble somewhere around 9 - 10khz, its not higher than the bass but it's super annoying.
The scooped mids make pianos sound like they're covered in a blanket.
And the sound stage is even worse than the Mackies.
It's a disgrace for these two headphones to be compared with the dt1990 pro.
I took my trusty Adam audio sp5 to the show.
And it destroyed these Mackies at every single category including soundstage.
From my visit to the show I ended up buying the Austrian audio hi x55 and the hedd audio headphone, both of which were magnificent and extremely detailed.
The dt1990, Adam audio sp5, Austrian audio hi-x55, are excellent professional headphones, they provide you with all the details without comprising anything, and have quality drivers in them, with great transients.
If your budget allows get the heddphone, its better but you won't be disappointed by those other options in the slightest.

Meanwhile professionals gave it 5 stars, and it has an amazing frequency response graph.

So critical information needs to be presented at all times.
Zeos is no professional as far as I know, or see, lol he doesn't even show graphs ( which don't lie or have interests lol).

I can understand that s-logic doesn't work with all people, which is a huge knock on ultrasone in general, but man when it works it works very well, it depends on the ears size and shape.

@@sonicthehedgehog989 So I have heard but ultrasone's and the SP5 are not neutral headphones very bright. And the SP5 did not get rave reviews some good but most echoing the same thing always echoed by and s logic phones that they are too bright to be considered neutral. One headphone that you can say got 5 star reviews and was reviewed almost everywhere would be the AKG K371.
