    So I got my 4 cam position extension harness today. Immediately I went to work get them installed. Two on driver side were very easy access and one on passenger side was also easy. However, the other one passenger side was a real pain to access! It was located directly underneath the air intake tube. Had to losen the air intake tube held by one screw and carefully pull up and to the side. There was a O-rign that help to hold in place the air intake in addition to the screw. Even with that moved out of the way there was very little space. But I was able to install the extension. I carefully inspected each OEM extension for any sign of oil leak before connecting the extensions, and all 4 of them were bone dry. Now here it gets interesting, after installing the cam position extensions and turning the vehicle on a check engine light came on. I checked make sure connections were solid and still engine light stayed on. Immediately I removed all 4 cam position extensions and re-connected everything way it was before. Engine light did not come on. I checked the extensions I got from ZZPerformance and they seemed perfect. So at this point I'll just settle for the MB cam solenoid extension harness I previously installed without any issues.

    Mercedes for purpose made OEM ext. harness for magnets and did not do
    for position sensors. New OEM camshaft position sensor do not need
    extension- it has build in protection- just replace it.

    it has build in protection.

    • @josecitomarin
      @josecitomarin  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Thank you so much for your comment. In reality even the oem extensions do not give you 100%protection. They are only buying you time so that your electronics don’t get damage as quick as they would. So you can choose to put this extension so that you can have some extra time because nobody is looking at their engine every day for leaks. If the sensors or solenoids are leaking, definitely replace them immediately even if you have extensions on. And if the extensions are wet, even just a little bit, change them as well.

      Hi. Thank you so much for your comment. I am not really a fan of doing any kind of modifications to my car. The sensors are there for a reason. It’s like going backwards. Back in the days everything was just mechanical. Now we have sensors that help out engines on all its mechanicals work at its best.
      I’ve seen people leave that off and the VVT off for performance purposes. As I said. I don’t like to do any modifications to my car, even if they appear to be that minimal. They will throw codes, and to keep the codes off you have to do more modifications. So, personally I won’t do anything like that. But it all depends on your personal application.
      All this sensors help us with MPG, HP and emissions. Too much oil or low pressure oil will definitely have an effect.

    • @josecitomarin
      @josecitomarin  Před 10 měsíci

      Thank you so much for your comment. I’m glad you are taking care of it. From what the engineers explain. It is the wiring it self that allows that oil to travel though the entire harness to the sensors and computer. It’s the type of wiring used. The wiring is great, there is nothing wrong with it, but if it gets wet it will allow for the oil to continue traveling though it. So they made this pigtail that has a different type of design, not letting oil to pass thought it as fast as the original wiring.
      We have to continue monitoring the pigtails as well to make sure they are not getting oil, because if they get very saturated they can still let oil pass through, just not as quickly as the original wiring would.
      Two of my solenoids starting leaking right after I installed the pigtails so I decided to replace all 4 solenoids and all 4 position sensors.
      Make sure to watch those two other videos as well.

      Welp thanks to you I checked my S550 Coupe and GL550. The GL had two leaky camshaft position sensors and the coupe had one. Nothing excessive but thanks to your video I caught it early enough. I ordered the pigtails and already replaced the leaky sensors. Life saver! I set a calendar reminder to check them every 3 months. Surprised there isn't a class action lawsuit. Why not build a better sensor that doesn't leak?

      I guess that is when planned obsolescence kicks in. As long as it’s under warranty, Mercedes will change even your engine if they had to. But most thighs go bad right after warranty expires just like anything else.

      If you get a leak, after replacing the solenoids or the position sensors you have to replace the pigtails as well. They help slow it down, they do not stop the oil from getting to the harness. For me totally work the 10 bucks each

      If you got a lot of codes, you probably got oil on the computer and that is why they have to replace it. But double check. Unplug the computer harness and check if there is any oil. If you don’t have any codes then just replace solenoids and position sensors. Also install pig tails

      Thank you so much for your comment. That is the issue, there is no code to tell you that there is an oil leak, so you just have to get in there and check the solenoids and position sensors for leaks.
