    Let's talk about what Zach Edey and what his pros and cons are skill wise as a basketball player!
    Today we will be breaking down why Zach Edey should not be an NBA lottery pick or in my opinion even drafted at all. He's to big and clunky with not enough perimeter skills offensively and defensively to hang in todays league. He's a great college basketball player, and that awesome! Just not an NBA guy despite his size.

    Going from being a 0 star recruit without a recruiting profile when he committed as a senior who played 5 minutes per game to being a projected bust a handful of months before the draft only 4 years later is a wild success story - wish people would talk about that more, but everyone is so focused on losing one game and projecting supposed failure in a completely different basketball league that they're not appreciating the most dominant college career since the 80s just because he doesn't fit the mold of how athletic or fast a supposedly actually good player is aka a good NBA player.

    If Edey develops a turnaround jumper from 10-12 feet or a face-up from 18+, he’ll be scary. Free throw shooting is the best indicator of developing an outside shot, and he’s solid from the line. But right now he has no offensive arsenal.

    Honestly dude i'm not the biggest Zach Edey fan or anything but this video is extremely biased and provides very little substance or analysis.
    There's no way you don't see the difference between Zach Edey, Tyler Hansborough, and Jarde Sullinger. Forget basketball analysts, anyone with eyes will immediately tell you the difference.
    You mentioned Zubac, but only referenced his draft position and not the fact that hes in his 8th season averaging 12-10 for a championship contender. Then you turned around and brought up Montross' stats because his high draft position didn't fit your narrative.
    Edey isn't the only 7+ footer to play college ball. His dominance is not just because he's big, and I think you should have gone more into how he's been effective in college and why you think it won't translate at the NBA level.
    Its your video, you're allowed to have you're opinion, but you haven't presented a compelling argument in the slightest. Just my two cents dawg.

      @HouseOfHandlesTraining  Před 3 měsíci +6

    • @proballa27
      @proballa27 Před 3 měsíci +11

      @@HouseOfHandlesTraining This is projected to be a weaker class, so don't expect every lottery pick to be franchise changing. Then again, even in strong drafts there's really only a handful of allstars and maybe two or three franchise changing players.
      I don't think Edey is that caliber of player, and a late lottery to mid-late first draft projection doesn't suggest that he is either. I do think there are examples of players with Zach Edey's profile that have been successful in the NBA. Players like Jakob Poeltl Steven Adams, Rudy Gobert, early career Brook Lopez, all had similar profiles and managed to find a way to contribute to NBA teams, mostly through rim protection and efficient scoring around the rim.

      Yeah except crazy thought teams aren’t gonna wait for him to develop a jumpshot. They aren’t gonna wait for him to be more mobile on defense. Do you want to know why cause he’s not 18 or 19? • @JimJam1069
    @JimJam1069 Před 2 měsíci +3

    In a way, the spread floor argument is kind of a double edged sword when people talk about Edey.
    He still has improvement to be made on getting out to defend (which he's actually shown MASSIVE improvement doing this this season) but a spread floor also means more difficult for teams to drop help defenders on him and I don't think that there are as many big men who can successfully guard Edey in the post as people think there are. The side affect of bigs playing more face the basket style basketball now is that many modern bigs are also worse at true post play

      It’s all about spacing. If he stands inside all day, there is going to be less space for his teammates to operate. Guards penetrate and dish to an open man for 3. Edey may not need to be that shooter, but he needs to draw his man to the 3 point line on offense. If he doesn’t shoot 3, the other team will have an easier defensive plan because whoever is guarding Edey can simply block the lanes to the basket, which makes Edey’s teammates harder to find an open guy. It’s all about spacing and flow.

    There's a big problem with many of the arguments in this video. First off, I'm biased, I would pick Zach Edey and I think he should go in the top 10 because in this weak ass draft he's one of the few guys that COULD become a star. (Not saying he will, but many of the guys outside the top 5 look like bench/role players at best and I'd rather draft a bench 7'4 wall than a bench point guard, or a bench PF/C who can't shoot or hit a FT.)
    Now I just want to point out all of the good big men that succeeded in college that failed in the NBA like you pointed out were all undersized for the position in the NBA. Tyler Hansbrough was 6-9, it is almost impossible for any of those PF/C's you listed to succeed when they are that undersized for their position. Zach Edey is 7'4-7'5 which is slightly smaller than Yao Ming was at 7'6. Which is why I can see the comparison to him later in the video.
    As for shooting, he's actually one of the best bigmen in the draft at shooting. He is shooting 72% from FT which for a big man is pretty decent actually. There's only a few exceptional centers in the league who shoot above 80% from FT and they are basically Jokic and Embiid, which I don't expect Edey to get to that level obviously or I would take him #1.
    Not going to lie even if he turns out to be a 4 inch taller Ivica Zubac, that would still be a real solid draft pick in the 10-15 pick range. Ivica Zubac had some nice years with the clippers and the difference between a 7'0 C and 7'4 C is huge.
    I don't think this video will age well. But only time will tell

    Agreed he won't be a lotto pick. Dead wrong that he won't be productive player. What's missing in the analysis is how swiftly he has improved in a short time. He's added to his game and improved his mobility. He now regularly screens above the 3 pt line then rolls to the paint with ease. Watch the Wisconsin game you saw him leave the paint and challenge an open 3pt shot, forcing the miss. Even scouts who doubt him say he's surprisingly mobile for his size. And has a soft touch. He has expanded his game to add a hook shot out to 12 feet. Doesn't currently need a jumper but shows good form in practice. Adding a jumper is one of the few skills NBA players do develop. Given his quick development in all other aspects, seems shortsighted to think he won't continue to improve. And the NBA is going big. Check the MVP candidates of the past few years. Teams will need an answer to Joel and Joker. Few can go big enough to keep them from dominating underneath. This is not the small ball era any more, teams are discovering you can let opponents gun as long as you rebound and score inside. Especially in the post season. The narrative used to say Gobert had become unplayable. Look at him now. Your analysis is 2 years old.

    Vision A++
    He's 7'4" 260 easy. A brick wall.
    Yup. He's slow. So is Joker. He can't shoit as well but he's a better passer from the post.
    He's shown insane improvement in a season. Hes no longer a post up only guy. He can create. The baby hook is not an easy shot, and he's mastered it. That shot should look like a flick of the wrist and his is picture perfect like Patrick Ewing or The Admiral.
    He's boring. NBA scouts like boring. They like it so much its the prototype for an MVP. Hes got that Tim Duncan finesse game. You dont even realize he just dropped 25/20/8/5 on a 60fgp/90ftp shooting night.
    His floor is Steven Adams. His Ceiling is Tim Duncan. Mark my words. If used properly, hes the meat in a championship lineup. He's special and hes seasoned.
    Historically, this is the type of guy you build with. Maybe not the "Man" but more like his muscle. Every MJ needs a Worm or Wennnington, and thats Zach. A grinder.
