@@thuggwaffle8825Nah, man. Until he can consistently hit 3's that aren't totally wide open & until he can learn to shoot better in the midrange & at the rim... He absolutely does not need to be taking more 3's. I watch every Blazers game too. You're literally the first person I've come across who suggests that he isn't shooting enough from deep.
Yes... He's going to need to at least develop a serviceable 3 ball in order to reach his ceiling... But that's honestly the last of his concerns atm. Since starting the season 2/24 from 3, he's shot 36/103 (approx 35%), which is serviceable... But that's mostly because they're wide open. All he needs to do is make em pay for sagging way off him like they are, in order to help open up the lane. As of rn... It's his midrange & finishing at the rim that needs the most work, by far.

    • @leonhardable
      @leonhardable Před 2 měsíci

and i think thats the thing.
there was so much background stuff inside the franchise about this exact pick, and outside fans cant possibly know that.
the blazers knew wemby was unlikely, wanted to keep their only recent FA (j grant) happy, so they wouldnt draft miller.
at the same time, lillard wanted to contend for the blazers, and asked them to trade the third pick to rather improve the roster. chances one sees aside, they could have gotten OJ Anunoby with that pick and their other assets.
scoot portrayed himself as a very mature guy, league ready and a leader (all these lies are on the blazers IG if you're bored enough to scroll down to pre draft)
and honestly, i was sad about lillard leaving, but pretty optimistic, i saw and still see huge upside in that roster.
but seeing where we are now, scoot is the common denominator for a lot of the blazers problems. he didnt single handedly cause them, but he is the only player that is involved in all of them.

Almost no rookies are ready coming into the NBA. Look at the stats just from this year alone for example. G-league just has a smaller talent pool compared to College. G-league Ignite and Overtime elite had 5 or 6 prospects combined in the draft. There were a couple Euroleague ones and the rest are College prospects.
That's around 50 Rookies straight from college and maybe 5 of them can be defined as NBA ready.

Nah he’ll be fine. That game last night he took 31 shots to get to 33 points. Really bad efficiency, but that will improve. He looks way better compared to when the season started. His defense is getting solid too. That wingspan along with the athleticism will be a deadly combo if he figures out how to put it to good use on defense.

The problem with Scoot is that he has never been a good shooter even in the G league it was all based on potential. But i think people need to get their expectations down he is probably not a future star more like a good defender averaging 18 a game on decent efficiency. Which is still very good.

This video is a little old but scoot has been averaging 15 pts and 5 ast on 42/37/96 shooting splits. Significant improvements within his first year. If he averages 20+ pts and 7+ ast in the next few years he's definitely not a bust but an elite player.

People expect a lot from the 3rd pick in the draft, they want a guy who has instant impact. But point guard is the most difficult position to play in the NBA and it's clear Scoot still has a lot to learn. He is very young so there is still plenty of time for him to develop. I'm not certain he's going to be an impact player but will probably find a role somewhere. For him to be an impact player, he needs to develop his perimeter shooting, especially that 3 pt. shot.

"It's easy to write off these criticisms as jumping the gun on a rookie only halfway through the year."
Yes, that's because he's a rookie only halfway through the year. This is extremely premature and if you've actually been watching the games you would have noticed he has shown flashes of greatness already. Consistency will come with time. Not everyone is going to be Lebron and ready from the jump. NBA fans are so annoying and dramatic, give the kid a couple years before you write him off as a bust.

I used to live near the Ignite's facility ... they openly do NO actual coaching. All they do is make the players look good. It's marketing not player development.
What's worse, they hype the kids up to themselves so they have huge egos and think they DESERVE every shot.
The Warriors knew Kuminga needed a lot of development in his understanding of the game, the problem was Kuminga didn't know it. He believed that every time he made the right pass or scored a bucket that he was ready and the team was holding him back. He's finally starting to put it together.

I would not give up on the kid yet as it seems like Ignite players need a few NBA seasons to learn the game. They lack basic IQ from AAU and shit HS coaching. It seems like going to college is far far better for their development as players, since college coaches don't accept stupid shit like the Ignite coaches. So many players learn to play after they reach the college game and I'd rather draft an upperclassman today in the lottery than an ignite project like Scoot.

I can definitely see the G League generally being a valuable developmental path. I mean if you're gonna be a professional, it's probably more valuable to have experience playing with and against other professionals than college students (a couple of whom *might* turn pro). That's basically the standard path for pro athletes outside the US. The Ignite, though? Sure, you're playing against professionals, but you're not learning to work within a system like them, you're on a team where everyone want to play hero ball and coaches won't do much to discourage that.

At 6'2 the ceiling was the moon? In the nba? The top 5 best players 6'2 and under are Jerry West, John Stockton, Isiah Thomas (The pistons not the celtics. dont be a casual), Allen Iverson, Bob Cousy. Unfortunately it's not 1958 anymore and players like that just don't really exist in the modern nba. Any midget that exists in the modern nba right now I.E Donavan Mitchell or Trae young thrive off the three point line. Which obviously scoot henderson can't do. When it comes to building a championship roster around a midget you'll need to have an Anchor for them defensively. Usually having an elite anchor requires elite floor spacing which scoot can't provide. I genuinely think scoot's two biggest draw backs that are gonna prevent him from ever being a number 1 guy is his inability to shoot threes and his height.
