    • Arpeggio - How and Why...
    Take some piano lessons from Scott Houston “The Piano Guy.” In this video, Scott shows you how to play arpeggios on a piano or keyboard.
    Using arpeggios is a great way to make your bass line more interesting and can be used as a terrific aid when improvising or getting out of a tune!
    What exactly is an Arpeggio?
    An arpeggio occurs when you play the notes of a chord in succession but not playing them at the same time. The notes are played separately, in some pattern but not together. Arpeggios can go up or down.
    When played in your left hand, arpeggios truly can make your bass line come to life! In the video, Scott demonstrates many ways to play arpeggios in your left hand using patterns to make the bass line more compelling.
    What’s more, using arpeggios in your right hand in an arpeggiated pattern can certainly be a fantastic tool to support you while improvising! Again, several examples will be shown to help you learn how to incorporate arpeggios tastefully into your soloing.
    Finally, another great way to utilize arpeggios is as an ending for a tune. In our style of playing, you are always looking for a way to end your song. Arpeggios really provide an easy, dramatic way to get out of a tune! Be sure to take full advantage of them!
    Houston’s life goal is to help you learn to play piano through piano lessons that you can take anywhere and at any time to get you started having some fun at a piano or keyboard as quickly as possible.
    Scott Houston is the host of The Piano Guy television series on Public Television and has taught hundreds of thousands of folks like yourself, how to have some fun on their piano or keyboard. He wants to help you get there too-as quickly as possible.

    Your arpeggio video is one of the greatest explanation ever see. I am learning piano. I have a question . How can I learn a song today at home but when I go to class or in public I panic get nervous and forget everything I practice? What can I do?

    • @pianoinaflash
      @pianoinaflash  Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks for the nice complement... You get nervous because you haven't done it much. That's all. Stage fright is something that just goes away (for 99% of people) after you've played in public a few times. Realize that what you are trying to do (play piano for fun) is something that 99% of the people that might be watching/listening WISH they could do. They won't be harsh critics in most cases ... just jealous. That helps ease some jitters I think :-)

    • @pianoinaflash
      @pianoinaflash  Před 6 lety +1

      Ostinato just refers to a pattern that repeats over and over. So I suppose if you repeated an arpeggio over and over the same way within a song you could create an ostinato out of an arpeggio ...

    How can u insert arpeggio with melodies thanks

    • @pianoinaflash
      @pianoinaflash  Před 8 lety

      +Manny Singh The trick is to wait for a long pause in the melody line, typically at the end of a phrase somewhere. Then during the pause in the melody, you can fill in a few beats or maybe a whole measure or two if there is that much space, to run up or down a bit and give things a little flourish. Hope that helps...

    Just my opinion Scott, but there's a difference between a relaxed, "this is fun" attitude, and falling into the trap of trying to generate traffic with silly behavior and graphics. If that really reflects your personality, then it's certainly not for me to criticize, cause it's real.. But remember first impressions matter. I've learned that the "POW! Super Secret Left Hand Pattern" type of videos, with the person yelling like a carnival barker, seldom convey any actual pedagogy, so I almost gave up after the first 20 seconds.
    But even if you do it, keep it a little cleaner between the actual teaching, and the joking? You SO quickly moved into the kidding about "make a big gesture and scrunch your face", that I thought "is this about making music or about showing off"? Then you chilled out, "... all kidding aside", and were very natural, warm, and appealing in your delivery.
    REALLY appreciate the clean headshot with neutral background when you are talking, and the overhead keyboard view is perfect. Just suggest a bit of "less is more" on the joking.
