- Learn how to play this classic Irish folk song, Molly Malone by watching this easy video tutorial by Flynner.
Lyrics:
In Dublin's Fair City
Where the girls are so pretty
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone
As she wheel'd her wheel barrow
Through streets broad and narrow
Crying cockles and mussels alive, alive o!
Chorus
Alive, alive o!, alive, alive o!
Crying cockles and mussels alive, alive o!
She was a fishmonger
But sure 'twas no wonder
For so were her father and mother before
And they each wheel'd their barrow
Through streets broad and narrow
Crying cockles and mussels alive, alive o!
Chorus
She died of a fever
And no one could save her
And that was the end of sweet Molly Malone
But her ghost wheels her barrow
Through streets broad and narrow
Crying cockles and mussels alive, alive o!
Chorus - Zábava

For just getting serious with the guitar, I wouldn't want to be learning from anyone else. This music is so fun and joyful. Thank you.

I don't know why but that song always makes me cry.
thank you so much. great tutorial and you sang it so well
According to Wikipedia, a Fishmonger is defined as "A fishmonger (fishwife for women practitioners - "wife" in this case used in its archaic meaning of "woman") is someone who sells raw fish and seafood. Fishmongers can be wholesalers or retailers, and are trained at selecting and purchasing, handling, gutting, boning, filleting, displaying, merchandising and selling their product. In some countries modern supermarkets are replacing fishmongers who operate in shops or fish markets." Thanks for the tutorial.

Absolutely enchanting!! Just stumbled across this actually when I was searching for Irish Folk music. Anyhow, if you ever get the chance could you play the Mary Ellen Carter by Stan Rogers?? He hailed from the Maritime's here in Canada but died in a plane crash when I was not yet born---turned onto his music by my parents, thank God! Take care....Sincerely ms.Stacey Steele
Thanks

Iv been learning all these songs from you! And i also like your email address haha yes I'm Australian and i do believe that term came from Kevin Bloody Wilson, one of our excellent songsmiths.
Cheers!
NICE Lowden
flynn, I have to sing/play this for my history class(culture of Ireland). Do you have any tips for someone who is not very experienced with singing?
HAPPY ST PATRICKS DAY!!
There are lots of Phelans in Ireland so you should have no trouble finding some roots...best of luck !
Hey now that's a no BS lesson. Good job!! I almost had it figured out and you nailed it for me. You'll probably hate this but I'm mixing it up with the Fiffenmarket version. Lots of ways to arrange it. Google: "molly malone fiffinmarket" if you haven't heard it. You'll either love it or hate it!
