  • Hello, Sewing Bees! Today I'm showing off my sewing studio and how I organize. I'm going to show you inside ALL my drawers, talk about my tables, chair, machines, and best storage practices for small spaces, especially off of the living space. That's right, my sewing studio is in our dinning room. Anything I mention in the video, I will link below. If you have any questions, feel free to message me at info@SookieSews.com or leave a comment. SUBSCRIBE to my channel! bit.ly/2NLi2Jb

    Sookie, out of all of the small sewing studios I've seen on CZcams, yours is the most super- organized and highly productive! I love how you neatly housed all of your sewing, embroidery and serger machines in one place...and the mobile table....nice! It's like having several different types of tables in one! NO CLUTTERING SEEN! Your video was very interesting and informative Thank you so much for sharing.❤

      @@SookieSews I'm an extremely organized, neat-freak, type-of-gal, so organization and neatness are paramount to me! I don't necessarily need to see everything in my sewing area on display, BUT EVERYTHING MUST have a home, be organized and labeled. I hate clutter and I war with it; because I don't have a lot of space to work with to house my sewing, cover stitch and serger machines, supplies and furniture. You gave me some wonderful ideas to increase my sewing area space and to make it more organized and productive. Yes! I'm looking forward to seeing your new video! I'm quite sure it will also be highly interesting and inspiring. Thank you.❤

    You are such an inspiration! Your sewing room is so “real world”. I can relate to all the challenges you covered: space, organization, etc.
    I love the way you’ve got your serger thread. And how you explained about dust collectors and potential sun fading. Now, I need to replace my trash can.

    Oh, Sue that was so fun, but since I have been sewing for over 60+ years...I can't even begin to put my fabric into those tiny cubes. Some of my cotton fabric is vintage now...but I love each one.
    I do like the white multi-drawer furniture piece. I may have to check that one out...Again you did a great job on this one...you are getting better with each one.

    I have the same table from Ikea, although I don't use it for crafting but rather for my office work. As to the table top bowing, add a piece of 2X2 lumber underneath between the two sets of drawers. It will provide extra support and help keep the table level and not be in your way. Love the wallpaper. Love the artwork on the wall. What an awesome area to be creative in.

All other bits and bobs are in salvaged boxes of similar size, new ones not a priority yet! They sit on other 3 chairs and under them until I get energy to sort out a better system, illness struck, urgent operation needed from 1/19 still not done, hope soon as new Consultant who knows I'm getting very down as problem to do with liver kidney and Gastrointestinal. I had the same issue with not being able to get the center leg for my IKEA table. I bought a wood leg from Lowe’s and a bracket. Painted it white and you would never know it wasn’t the real deal. The pilot holes are already in the underside of the table top. Just be sure to use short screws. The leg is positioned far enough back that it does not impact moving between machines at all.

      Thank you for your kind words, I love my room too :) I probably could secure the wide rolling Alex draws underneath really good, in fact, you can't see it but under my table top and above the two wide Alex drawers are two reams of paper to help support the table top from "dipping". I usually keep an embroidery machine on the top in the center (between the bookshelves) and if you are talking about keeping the multi needle on top on either side, I think the weight will easily be supported, but, something to consider that I didn't is leg room. When I use my serger sometimes for filming in the middle in front of the dressform flower picture, there is no room for my legs...so something to consider. If you want to email me I can show you more photos or help out with more answers. Here to help info@sookiesews.com

    You are so patient about those awful cabinet drawers. Warning to those who are considering buying them: I have the same style of ikea cabinet (I think it's called "Alex,") and they're a terrible design, even though they seem perfect at first glance.
    Why? Because the drawers don't pull out all the way -- inches of space are lost in the back -- and small things get lost in the abyss or you have to remove something else to slide the back contents out. I would not recommend them for anything.
    Also, it seems the only way to actually remove the drawer would be to take the whole cabinet apart. Most drawers have a way to lift and jiggle to remove the drawer, but if these can be removed (so you can reach stuff in the back), I haven't figured out how to do it.
    Thanks for the great tour!

    • @SookieSews
      @SookieSews  Před rokem +1

      Good points Vic and I never even noticed that until you just mentioned it about the drawers not pulling all the way out. It is annoying. I love the design and set up but we’ve had some issues. My husband finally fixed the table top for me with some Alien tape and now the table top is perfect. It’s never going anywhere though, so glad we got it right lol. When we do the 2023 tour we’ll be sure to mention it. Again thanks for your comments :) glad you gleamed some inspiration.

      @@SookieSews thanks for your reply and I hope it doesn't bother you too much now that I've pointed it out! I got the tall version of that cabinet to use for my sewing supplies by my machine. I had been using one of those bamboo framed carts, with plastic bins that pulled out on little wooden rails. The ikea cabinet just looked so much nicer. But I'm gonna switch back to the plastic bin rack because the cabinet, even though it's bigger and taller, doesn't hold as much, and I can't reach much of what is in there. I guess it would be useful for long items only, that you can see from the front of the drawer. I really hope they redesign this piece because otherwise it would be perfect. Good luck with your new space! I love all your machines!
