Hi everyone! I’ve been so excited to film this for you. In this video I’m sharing a tour of my home office/sewing studio. We moved into this home at the end of last year and I couldn’t be more grateful to finally have my own space after working out of our kitchen in our tiny apartment for two years. Today I’m showing you how I have everything set up and how I organize all of my sewing supplies. I hope this gives you some good ideas and inspiration for your own space as well. Thanks for watching!

Suggestion for threading the sergers for everyone. In the industry we do not unthread it every time to change colours. We just cut the thread at the cone. Knot the new colour on with the smallest and neatest knot possible. Cut the tail of the knot to about two inches and pull it through the tension wheels and loopers. Do not pull the knot through the eye of the needle. Cut the thread at the knot and thread the needle. Voila you did not end up taking endless time rethreading.

For the scraps, Closet Core Pattern has a free pattern for a pouf cover to fill with said scraps. It has a zipper so you can add or remove any scraps!

If you put that grippy shelf liner under your machines it helps with vibrations. Your tour was great, you have a great area to create!

Use double sided tape that is used for rugs to attach the top to the drawers. It's thick and sturdy.

Get you some of that rubbery nonslip and no- slide shelf liner at the Dollar Stores!
It will keep the Machines, the Presser Foot, the Desk top all from moving! Also, a Great Jar opener!

Hi Emily just happened across your channel and love it so I’m a new subscriber x I love your room and it has given me a lot of inspiration. I would make those seat pads for the window sill as you could make separate pads which could stand up to the side when you are working so that you can still use the space for overflow, and then put them back when not in use xx

I so enjoyed your tour, and it inspired several ideas for my own space. Well, spaces, really. They might involve changing up the functions of some rooms.
Anyway, a few ideas and tips for you:
    * I think if you exactly swap the location and orientation of your vintage sewing machine and the little chest of drawers, that would work nicely.
    * I often use fabric scraps or remnants in up cycling or re-fashioning projects. They can also be used to make a scrap quilt, or an assortment of scrap quilt blocks to combine with other designs and add interest.
    * I love the clean, sleek, look of your room, but if you’re willing to make use of some vertical space, you could add hooks to a section of the wall for hanging works in progress (freeing up the window ledge), or for anything else you might find useful to hang.
I’m really inspired by your sewing project journal, and by your discipline to make a fabric inventory. I tend to buy fabric just because I love it (especially on sale) and then decide what to do with it.
I also have an ever-growing assortment of items to use for up cycling, and I’ve completely lost track of it. The task of taking inventory seems daunting, but it’s the only way I’ll be able to see what I have available at a glance!

Hello Emily! Very nice sewing room. Lucky you! When I was your age, I was in heaven when I rented an apartment with a 7'x7' walk-in closet, that allowed me to use the front half of the closet for my sewing.
When I worked designing commercial offices and selling the furniture, we used the white foam double stick tape to attach tops to pedestals. It will hold in it place for years, though you'll need to remove those small plastic risers to get a smooth application. I would just use one strip from front to back of each pedestal. Plus, should you need to move the desk, it will pull apart easy enough and you will have plenty of room to add another strip for reattaching.
My favorite ironing board padding is wool. I was able to find an old wool blanket at a thrift store for $3 that was a bit moth eaten, but the holes don't matter. The moths (or their larva) do matter, so that purchase went directly into the washing machine (hot water) and dryer. Washing like this felts the fabric nicely making it thicker. I used 3 layers, placed on the ironing board and pressed firmly with a steam iron, to get a firm (non-squishy) padding, before placing the cover on top. Did the same to my sister's with a thrifted piece of someone's leftover pool table fabric. Check with your family to see if anyone has an old wool blanket they're no longer using. I even think it's a wonderful usage of great grandpa's army blanket.
As for the closet, if you own, I would outfit the closet with more of the wire shelving - properly designed and installed. Even while I was still renting, I asked permission to redo the closets if I left the shelving behind when I moved. All of my landlords were thrilled! You just don't need enclosed cabinets in a closet with a door. (Before offices, my first design job was doing those wire closets when they first hit the market. It's still the most space efficient way to organize a closet.)

I've got a similar set up with two sets of Alex drawers and the Lagkapten table top but mine has predrilled holes for screws to go through the top of the chests of drawers into the table top. They were quite difficult to line up but the top is securely attached to the drawers.

What a nice sewing room. Well suited for all your needs. I was wondering, can you take the doors off of your fabric cupboards? That might be an easy way to make your fabric visible.

Double side self adhesive Velcro. You can get industrial strength which I used and it takes a huge effort to separate the two pieces plus super strong adhesive.

I use an IKEA table top with legs and I noticed the table shaking today. I wonder if double sided Velcro tape might help?
Air threading on that baby lock sounds like a dream! I hate threading my serger so everything has the same beige overlock seam!

Yes, I love the buttonhole function. It's totally automatic so you just press a lever and it goes through all four steps! And gives a very clean result. It's such an upgrade from my old machine haha.

How do you fold up your patterns so small to fit in fold cabinets? I find that once I tape them together, they don’t fold well. I end up rolling them , but storing large rolls of taped computer paper isn’t my ideal organization method.

I have my machines organized in a similar way. I have them connected to electricity in the back of the desk so I can just pull the machine I need to the front and use it. With my new serger however, the cord is so short that this doesn't work. It looks like your serger is connected from the back. How do you manage with the cord? It looks like I have the same serger as you...
