"0-1 nit near black is more important than going from 1000 to 2000 nits because it's in everything" finally someone says it!
Everyone seems to be focused on the peak brightness in these first looks/reviews. I couldn't care less about even brighter TVs, I want better near black performance!
Well being able to show the highlights properly is also very important. Less tone mapping and more HDR impact.
@@micker9830 Well yes but if a TV doesn't get bright enough or cannot tonemap good enough to retain detail in highlights, that's not nearly as distracting as detail loss in the near black region. Sure you loose some HDR-impact and instead of a detailed sun or flashlight, you just get a white surface on the screen but our eyes are not that sensitive to that. If there is a problem in the 0-5 nit region, our eyes are way more likely to pick up that there is something wrong, for example black crush (lifted shadows are not that big of a deal imo though since you won't know they're lifted as long as there is still true black), uneven uniformity, bad gradiation/posterisation coming out of black or artifacts which tend to occur in dark scenes like chrominance overshoot, heavy noise or macroblocking.
These things are way more important than a little blown out highlights also because - as classy said - it's visible in way more scenes than bright highlights and our eyes are more sensitive to it. The near black performance is the only thing I'm not quite happy about my S95C, as Classy said, there isn't a TV on the market yet that can do near black perfectly (Panasonic and LG are probably the closest atm), now that's what I like to see not more brightness.
Exactly, completely agree!
@@micker9830 The big difference is that tone mapping for peak highlights is almost always only noticeable in a side by side comparison, i.e. it is not perceived as a flaw on simple observation. Whereas weaknesses in the lower brightness levels are almost always perceived as disturbing and incorrect, e.g. as flashing artifacts. So I totally agree with Classy.
This is going to get really good with this apparent great new processor capability now. Can't wait for the Classy data breakdown on this one..
Probably the best video on G4 on CZcams right now.
Some will never be happy
Yes it is, can't wait for the TV to be available on the market and to have more in depth videos about the G4.
For the quality of the immagine probabilly lg g4 is the best tv of the world 🏆📺

Until you play Mario Kart on them and pause and look at the screen on all 3 of them.
@@techsamurai11 I'm 76 years of age, my Mario Kart days are over. I bought the Sony A95L 77" and love it.

Great video very good evaluation and breakdown of the G4. I can't wait to see the G4 myself it looks to be a promising TV improving on so much.
You are really good at this Classy and I'm sure lots of us appreciate your work and knowledge !
Thanks Classy.. Awesome as always! Cant wait for follow-ups.
This is the video I've been looking for a real technical comparison with information comparing the G series to the competitors 🖖🏾
Awesome too see all the improvements. Perfectly happy with my 77 s90c. Been amazing thus far.
The S90C does not have the performance of the S95C, as it is limited in nits.
Great tv you have .
@@sachaburki8535You can go to the service menu and make it way brighter if you want to though.
Hey Classy,
Great video and objective explanation! G4 seems to be a good upgrade, also considering future proofing for 4000nit content. Will be interesting to see what Sony brings (XR80 seems interesting) and also the X955 from TCL( heard good things about it from German retailers)
Keep it up!
Fantastic Video! I think I will get the G4 when there is a sale.
Glad i made a huge deal on S95C 65 Inch last week (1800€ with Calman Calibration 😍). The 2024 TVs dont seem to be a huge improvement like 2023 TVs have been.
Very informative..thanks classy 🤠
Looking forward to this video!
Excellent overview. Thanks.
Great video man, as always. Would you guys ever consider comparing a newer model to a TV 5-6 years ago or so? I think it would show the realistic change people would expect, just a thought
The only difference lg made all over this years is evo and mla panels .
@@fullhd5277 the "only"?? and there is 2 gen of evo and 2 gen of mla. and there is heatsink too.
all of this make difference. more resistence and much brighter, and better near black too.
CLASSY! will you analyze the colors of the S95D??? Curious if the filter for anti glare ruins color brightness.
Thank you. Excellent video!
Nice breakdown. Thanks! Although, it's not looking good that no reviewers have said there is a backlit remote, lol.
Funny how high tech these TVs can get but can't even give is back-lit remotes 😂
Thank you for this video .
Really impressive tbh. Hopefully the release is smooth and not like last year with the uniformity issues and tinting. I’d like to switch my A95k to another room and grab this
U couldn’t go wrong with any of them they all are awesome 😎
I gotta say, not bad from LG G4 compared to the QD-OLED tv's. Quite close here and there, something i can life with it. there were some points where the G4 looks better imo.
LG G4 OLED does not have the final software THIS IS POST-PRODUCTION AND DEMO TV , sony and samsung have a calibrated image, the lg g4 does not have a calibrated image
Thanks for this. I'm sure you already know but for others: the Spears and Munsil disc contains a dedicated pattern specifically for chrominance overshoot: It's on disc 2, Motion, Near-black Overdrive.
You can also use as an alternative: disc 1, Advanced Video, Quantization 2D (Cb or Cr).
Obviously bear in mind those patterns are extremely dark.
Used the near black overdrive but its not quite the same for chrominance overshoot as some real content scenes. Certain scenes showcase it more than others. Streaming content can also amplify it from compression and less dithering or other effects used to mask near black issues.
@@ClassyTechCalibrationsIndeed! I'm skeptical that it's been 100% solved; all firmwares since 2018 have resorted to dithering near black and not using the white subpixel as a crutch/workaround, with varying levels of success. If they have truly fixed it at the *panel* level - and not just tweaked the dithering work-around for dark colours with spatial and temporal dithering - I'll be very, very impressed. Will be very interesting to see in the fullness of time.
Such a Great video & explanation!! Thanks!
G4 is looking amazing! Just ordered and knowing it will arrive without screen scratches like the Sony A95L I’m returning means a lot!
Mine came flawless with zero scratches. Regardless Some will never be happy no matter what.
Hey there im considering returning my a95l for the g4, can you let me know how it goes? :)
Keep in mind this is all 4k content he is shooting. 🙃 Need 1080 content and lower res for cable users to get the full idea of what TVs upscaling can do and what is more life like. Movie performance, tv shows and cable tv. Need more content to show that or at least talk about it. Preferably Less 4k demo content testing if possible for the everyday viewers habits.
My 65 a95L had zero scratches. January build.
Wow the upscaling has improved a lot from the g3 to g4
This is the most important factor of anything. As an A95L owner, the G3 was close enough to the A95L in high quality content, but the A95L looked noticeably better in SDR
A11 processor
Nice to see all the improvements but what about SDR gaming luminosity ?
Thank You!
Hi, is it possible bring the near black to reference A95L via calibration?
This comparison are all OOTB?
Please review with low quality content sources and compare with an older WOLED like a CX.
Going to be interesting in how LG G4 does against the Panasonic Z95A this year since that should have the latest Pentonic chip
Panasonic is better out of box , lg after calibration and overall .
Classy, thank you. Like ive daid before.....you always smash it. We as buyers are very very lucky you and some orher great guys, do this for us. Time for an upgrade from my C1 55" going for an 65" G4
@fepethepenguin8287 That is true at 10k Kelvin native panel temperature can reach 3000 nits below 3% window (Vivid mode)

You won't even notice a difference, unless they were side by side. Once you start watching a show or movie you will enjoy it the same on either TV. I have an A95K and an A80J. The A95K has a better picture, but I watch all my movies on the A80J, because it's larger. I don't even notice or miss any PQ differences.
@@micker9830I have a 65" A80J. Thanks for aliviating what FOMO I have 😂
Yes g3 is mid tier last year model 😢
G4 isn't worth the price you'd be better off waiting for a bigger jump for the cost difference between the two
What player do you use when playing back content from your PC?
I have the 77 S95c. What’s the correct shadow detail level to use on this tv? Putting it to +1 gives me slightly better shadow detail but not sure if it’s accurate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Does the 55" LG G4 have the gen 2 MLA tech like the larger sizes?
I'm not seeing otherwise in the marketing literature, but want to be sure.
Great video, does anybody know if peak brightness in SDR game mode is still locked?
Edit: It is still locked but seems brighter this year.
My TV was actually calibrated by classytech. 65 LG cx
Kind of unrelated but when do you think PHOLED will release. Do you think it’s possible for 2025 release or more like 2026 or 2027?
Btw I get purists that they will only watch in 1000 nits because it was mastered so but there are few movies and will be more mastered in 4000. Also now you have control over dynamic tone mapping so I would say unless you watch pitch black all the time - near black is not as important as brightness.
Was waiting to see if Samsung/Sony would have a 83"QD OLED this year. It does not look to be the case so the G4 wins by default. Although to be honest they all look great. I Would prefer the A98L-M or whatever it would be called so too bad 77" is the max ( again). Now LG, let's talk about this $6,500 price tag
@ClassyTechCalibrations Great content as usual! The viewing distance from my living room is around 11 ft. My biggest question now is whether to choose between LG G3 77” or the LG G4 65”?
77
I have the Lg G3 and got it at a discount I think if you can get the older model do it nothing is really wrong with them, I think if you have the money G4 but for most difference for most people they will not see much of a big difference, of course, new tech usually seems to be better but the Lg G3 is over a thousand dollars off right now
Is the color luminance jump just at smaller window sizes or does it apply to all sizes?
Also, is the color luminance increase just proportional to the increase in white luminance? Or is it actually more saturated relative to white compared to the G3?
S89C baby!
I tried grabbing one while it was on sale for $1799 but it’s at $1,999 now.
Has the color banding improved over the G3 during gaming? It’s really noticeable on the G3….
I’m not going to say which brand but I recently bought one of these in the 65 inch model for almost 60% off MSRP. Does it matter which one it was? No, at that price I’m beyond happy and love the tv.
Oh my god, thank you for bringing up the shimmering that the a95l has in highly texturized hdr scenes. It was driving me crazy not knowing if I had a bad panel or not, and Sony customer service has been absolutely useless.
It really is noticeable, and makes me want to sell the tv. My only concerns moving to an LG are the power usage and its lack of integration with Google home.

Any new gaming setting/feature? Or any previous setting/feature improved upon for the G4?
yes no more brightness loss in gaming mode / hgig.
144 Hz and fixed color brightness in game mode are very substantial upgrades for me as a PC gaming enthusiast. Coming from a G1 this makes me genuinely consider upgrading if it turns out to be great in other areas as well. Any idea/hints so far if we might see 240 Hz OLED TVs in the next 1-2 years?
Probably more than 5-6 years ; tvs don't compete with monitors for gaming specs .
@@fullhd5277
Any source on that? TCL has been pushing 4K 240 Hz already (although with halved vertical res I believe) and Samsung is pushing their outrageously expensive MicroLED to 240 Hz. LG OLEDs have also supported proper 4K 120 Hz via HDMI 2.1 earlier than the monitor market, so your statement doesn’t hold true there. It really only depends on LG Display or Samsung Display to push their TV panels to 240 Hz, since LG/Samsung Electronics could very easily reach that level through DSC and they already are in their monitors. Might need a more capable TV SOC as well but since those two companies are also developing them in house I don‘t see that as a hurdle. It could easily happen any year, I‘m just interested if any industry insider knows the companies‘ plans of when they‘ll actually bring it to market.
4k at 240hz is gonna be really hard to take advantage of
@@dante19890 You do need good hardware for that but not the absolute best of everything and those TVs aren't gonna be for budget buyers either. With tech like DLSS in Performance mode and Frame Gen you only need to render at 1080p and achieve a base frame rate of 70+ fps to exceed the 120 fps my G1 can currently display even in games like Cyberpunk with maxed Path Tracing with my 4090. That's the best hardware you can get of course but let's say you're playing less demanding games and you use DLSS Performance + Frame Gen as well you'd easilly get past 144 fps in quite a lot of games even with a 4070. Still a niche group of people that'll use such a rig with a TV and aim for high frame rates like these but if you want you can take advantage of it even without completely busting the bank.
If I had not got the A95L last year I would probably have got the G4 this year. Think the differences are getting more and more minute though.
No way you would notice a difference lol. These comparisons are like looking at something with a magnifying glass. Actually using the TV to watch a show or movie, you would never notice or miss any differences. The A95L is better in some areas.
LG offers much better deals in Europe, a 83" G4 for the same price of a 77 A95L could likely make me wanna forget about QD Oled. lol
Exactly,! I think sony’s prices in Europe and the UK are ridiculous. Absolutely love the A95L but wouldn’t hesitate to get an 83 inch instead of a 77.
@@TheAntifluencer i have bought the lg g3 77 inch last year. its a bit scam. normally they upgrade the proccessor every year 1 generation up. this year 2 generations. so its a like a 2025 model. if i know that. i was not buying the lg g3. and was waiting for the lg g4
@@jantjedewaal i think they’re doing that with the C4 and the C5 will probably have the G4 processor. Sony are overpriced, but their ‘master series’ definitely stays top of the line for more than a year.
Note that the Witcher 3 is capped at 1000 nits. Only if you use igni it goes over 1000nits so that makes it not an ideal game to test Tvs that go above 1000 nits. I measured that with special software and got it confirmed by many others of the SK community
This year for me it’s between a 85” X95L and a 83” G4
No contest though really. I’m sure x95R will be a great tv but micro contrast is still OLED domain and LG processing makes it 3D like

Very good picture + very good sound vs. Very Very good picture + bad sound.
I would pick the a80l, it'll be the better experience overall I think.
@@bilalbiriri6596 I believe the reason I am also doubting about the a80L is because I’ve read some reviews about it being the most dim OLED tv and that it apparently has aggressive dimming in game mode. In the store, Sony also had a very bad choice for demo video showing on the screen v.s. an LG and Samsung which really popped up and had that 3D effect.
Did you get chance to compare the sound on the G4? It was awful on the G3.
Hey Classy, I’m really curious to hear your take on LG’s ability to create 3D image depth with their processing that other manufacturers haven’t been able to achieve. As great as I’ve heard QD oled is, it has been described as looking more flat and painting-like in nature as opposed to the muti-layered depth and pop that Lg is capable of producing. I upgraded from the CX to the S90c and it does appear to be more flat in nature. Any tips on how I can achieve that 3D look? Thank you!
Here are the best ways to achieve that. Use contrast enhancer on high, set gamma to bt 1886 or 2.4. Reduce the brightness, force bt2020 on sdr with quantum tvs settings, turn on ai picture pro. My c1 looks insanely 3d with these settings to the point where it may scare you in some scenes because it looks like the objects are being thrown straight at your face. Try these settings and let me know and yes I saw the s90c and it's very flat looking unfortunately in a bright room. But those are with stock settings and I think the 3d depth can definitely be improved on it aswell if you follow my above settings! BTW how is the 3d effect of your s90c in a dark room compared to your cx? The g4 is the most 3d looking tv in the world right now as the processor is built to make the picture look more 3d.
How has black crush and abl improved with G4 vs G3? Any decrease in any any of them with the G4 and to what degree?
Those are demonstrated in the video. Less crushing near black and mildly less ABL.
So what would you recommend the G4 or the A95L for gaming/movies
G4 if gaming is more important or TV is in a bright room (e.g. daylight)
A95L if gaming is less important and older SDR, non-4k content id more important

The weird thing i tried to play the same video but not on ps5 youtube but the Tv’s CZcams and the scene was perfectly fine. Do you have any explanation for what is this?

That's really subjective but I'd say with high interpolation LG and Samsung have less artifacts than Sony.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations classy I thought Sony had the best motion (overall), isn't that the case anymore?
Looks like the A95l is holding its own against the G4 jiust shows how great that tv is
it should as its still the most expensive flagship
It really looks like the G4 has the least restrictive ABL, maybe equal with the Sony.
Now what I really want to see is ABL measured on the G4 against the C4 across real content.
If you look at the RTINGS reviews for the G3 and C3, in two of the real content brightness measurements the C3 outperforms the G3, meaning the G3 actually has a more restrictive ABL than the C3. If the C4 has a similarly less restrictive ABL than the G4 (as last year's models were) then the C4 is absolutely the better buy.
i dont think so. c4 has same processor as 2023 models. a9 processor. lg g4 a11. the skipped a generation this year. so its you get a 2025 model. because normally it will one step up in processing every year!
Is the g4 going to be in game mode
Great video! Very excited about the G4. Do you think if I don’t notice ABL on the A90J that I would on the G4? I heard in the recent years that LG has aggressive ABL now when that didn’t used to be the case. Thanks!
ABL is reduced not getting worse.

As usual, seems like all TVs have their pros and cons. LG seems to have the most stable and versatile set. A95L will of course still have better luminance with QD-OLED. But I will say, at least based off this video, the gap is closer than it was. I don’t think the LG looked washed out as much as last year next to the A95L. I’m more curious to how SDR/low bit rate looks than anything to compare.
? You may want to actually see the other sets and have them tested before saying that fan they(might want to change he/she boy/girl ect or be grandpas forever). Versatile means everthing... not just great white and overprocessed easy to spot contrast pop tricks not intended. Does g4 have, in a non potentially cherry picked set thats finished quality, better then seven point crap gradient? Wonky hdr color? Large black crush? Ect ect. Oh cant forget my favorite: how about a pink tink on a side of your screen for life? Thats tint alone is worth 4000 right, esp with other uniformity ussues? My pamsma has light pink burn in retention perhaps burn in spots that is far less noticeable....this comes preloaded with it, giant easy to see pink blobs in the middle of the screen...just great stuff lg just great. Secret: g3 has less to much much less then recommeded color brightneess for hrd. S90c/95 has far above, almost double, the minimal recommended. Might want to find out if the g4 can even do minimal proper hdr colors yet before accolades. Paying for an hdr set, it is just a sd set that can only do hdr bright whites properly with nice detail. Not dark saturatuon well either until proved with the g4. Serriously potentually heavily barbie tinted old news garbage hdr tech with great detail pop. Perhaps it will creep just into being able to do hdr minimal stats. Oh yeah i may have missed something but if your going to turn off or on stuff out of the box for lg (t mapping was it?) therefore calibrating to look a certain way you should also do so with others for common settings. Calibrated to allow for better compaison is literally calibrating by standard definition. believe the actual temporally comparible set is2020 by default anyways. 16 min is limited and suspect someone does not mind grinding them on a milestone at the proper time : )
S95C QD-OLED is winner for me
Bottom line for me…LG G3 77” dropped to $3500 last October and A95L 77” has always been $5000. Assuming this price trend is the same this holiday season, is the Sony A95L worth $5000 and worth $1500 more than the G4?
TV's are always getting better. and every year will make a difference. Its better to save the $1500 and in a few years it won't burn as bad to upgrade. Same concept with computers. side by sides fu*k our perception but once you get a G3 you'll be blown away and won't even think about something else.
@@305Nick Thanks, you just completely convinced me to go with the G4 this holiday. Very rational points 👍
Does the chrominance overshoot look any better on the G4 ? Its driving me crazy on my 77G3 I just cannot unsee it .
Vincent’s video (and even this one) say it’s been improved substantially
G4 👍🏼
LG THE KING IS BACK G4-83 FIRST DAY PURCHASE LETS GO
"Size matters" that's what she says. 😆
83 inch G4 Is on Amazon now for $5,905 , I thought the price was $6499 but that's what I see atm.
@@fawkkyutuu8851 it is on Amazon for that price I orded mine this morning 83inch
Is anyone upgrading from the G3 to the G4? I already own a 77” G3. I wonder if the upgrade is worth it. My opinion right now is that the upgrade is only worth it if you switch from 77” to 83”. But I want to hear from you about it.
I agree, only if you go up in size. Otherwise hold out another year or two for the next big jump.
@ClassyTechCalibrations coming from a G2 55 inch. Worth the upgrade to 55 inch G4. 75% PC Gaming. 25% Streaming and 4k Blueray?
Hell no…. I changed from a 2019 Panasonic GZW2004 to a s95c now and thats not a huuuuge Upgrade.
G3 to G4 isnt worth at all. G2 to G3 was a much bigger gap
@@francis147741 G2 is still a great TV. Hold out another year or two.
