The Best - LG G4 MLA OLED (4K 144Hz) PC Review
LG just released their 2024 OLED TVs including the C4 and G4 series, and the upgrades are impressive. The LG G4 not only is brighter, and has more features, but they listened to customer feedback and greatly improved the G series this year leading to an incredibly good display for PC gaming, console gaming, or watching movies.

LG - if any sales rep sees this, please make a 42" G series or give us a 42" C series next year with heatsink/MLA panel. Thank you.
and 48 inch
Yeah, if they made G series TVs in smaller sizes, they would probably sell like hotcakes.
I think it would be great for the C series, but I don't see it happening unfortunately. If LG went that route, no one would buy the Gallery Series anymore. I'd love to be proved wrong, but we'll have to wait and see.
and 240 hz
Asus makes a 42 inch moniter with MLA
Thank you. You are the first one ever mention the subpixel layout for the G4.
It's hard to trust any youtube tech review where they received the product for free or discounted. This is not an attack on you, just a critique of the system in general
Yeah there's no such thing as an unbiased CZcams tech reviewer..
They're more like Online Salespeople these days with affiliate links
Exactly, cause their gonna want more product for content. So they give a milk toast review.
Agreed
The discount was from Value Electronics, not LG, so I don't know where you're getting the bias from. He bought the damn TV, that's like the least biased you can get.
Going to a 55” G4 from my PG27UQ, will it blow my mind you think?
Thankyou for your awesome reviews, brutal honesty, and discord support
Much appreciated!
Great content 👏👏👏
Great review.
Another great video⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hey, first time viewer of your channel. loved your video, ill be sure to check out your other content. And have to say love the moustache, haha. Thank you for your hard work in creating a great review, from down under (AUS).
Thanks for adding the dark uniformity check to your OLED reviews. What gray level % pattern are you testing and is it SDR or HDR?
Great stuff! When do you think a smaller (42 / 49) MLA OLED will come out? C5?
Hi Mr Display Guy!
Man! Your moustache looks very powerful.
I don’t know if you saw, but TCL lauched a 34 inch monitor - 34r83q - with mini led, will you make a test about it, or do you have any thoughts about it?
Hiw much did you get this tv for? Keep up the great content
You missed main comparison: that with Sony 95L , G4 main enemy. Samsung RGB Oled aren't on that level because of a less performing processor.
I have always been impressed with the fit and finish of the G series. Nobody does a better job with the settings and calibration functionality either. Nice that they come with a stand now. Any chance you will review the Bravia 9 this year? I know some people might turn their nose up to LCD but I'm still intrigued by it.
LG came out swinging this year. This thing Slaps
Just wait for the 42" 1300+ nits Philips 809 MLA OLED, hitting the shelves in autumn. It's just couple months more and you'll get smaller form factor to work with your PC and probably even better pannel.
I don’t think there are any 42” MLA this year.
@@thedisplayguy The model I described above will be part of Philips late lineup for 2024. 42" inch first gen Philips MLA panel hitting 1300+ nits, 144Hz, VRR and stuff.
Always wait atleast half a year to get a big discount, can't wait to pick this up next black friday.
someone needs to make a MLA qd oled. It would be the goat
There are issues of using a TV as a PC monitor, but it certainly looks like the brightness is much better on OLED TV's than OLED monitors. I think the monitor manufacturers are calibrating them way lower in brightness in order to offer a burn in warranty. The TV's only go to 120-144 hrtz depending on model, but that is good enough for 4K where even the high end hardware would have trouble pushing it beyond those limits. The other issue is the size of the TV's. 55 inch is really big for a monitor with 48 inch or 42 inch being even better.
Wall mount and have a desk 3m away, thats what i do for 55' pc. Once you go from top monitors to flagship tv's youll never buy a monitor again
I disable dimming and it’s pretty good after that. I do hope 32-42” OLEDs get much brighter as that is certainly my preferred size.
How’s the Anti-reflective coating?
My end game gaming TV is a 240 Hz 55INCH OLED. Right now my 32 inch Alienware 240Hz QD-OLED is where my gaming is at! I wish these TVs would add a dedicated HDMI port for audio output. eARC adds audio lag in games especially when using Dolby Atmos
Please review the new Asus Pro Art 4k 240hz QD-Oled
I hope LG brings MLA to their PC gaming monitors at some point, it seems like a strong competitor for QD-OLED
Is it worth selling my c2 65 inch and buy og g4 77 inch/83inch on black friday? Or keep the c2 some few years more, when the technology is better. Or at the difference in picture Quality from c2 to g4 that HUGE
The long intro song shows how good this TV is 😅
song name btw?
Super curious how this will stack up to the bravia 9
Hi, What’s the video that starts at 1:10 and on the Preview?
I ve been trying to find it for iver
Glad I decided to wait for the 83" G4 instead of the G3
83" G3 is seemingly just a C3... that 83" G4 will be amazing tho
Same! I returned my 83” G3 inch cuz it didn’t have MLA. Now going to get the G4 83 inch. Can’t wait
Wait till black friday itll probably be around 1899$
yep wait until about Sept or later and get one from greentoe you don't have to pay tax and free shipping they will decide if they accept your best offer and its from an authorized company that lg honors the warranty under
$1899 Is still too expensive for such a small size imo.
@@fawkkyutuu8851 you call 55'' and 65'' small lol
@@ployth9000 yes these are smalll af sizes

Settings for hdr gaming?
Does the LGG4 have audio 🔉 output jack for headphone 🎧.
My setup has soundbar and linked to this system!
This is a huge win for WOLED. Imagine next year they fix the subpixel order and its perfect
I own the 42" C4 TV, coming from a 42" C2. Honestly, I'm not sure there's any additional improvement that can be made to the text. I see no fringing at all. Or, I've just gotten very used to it, potentially. Let's also keep in mind this is a software problem that Microsoft needs to fix.
@@trippalhealicks Not really a Microsoft problem. Many software does not follow Microsoft ClearType setting and had their own text rendering system based on RGB subpixel layout.
I got my G3 a few weeks ago. It’s a wonderful TV. The only thing that bothered me is the game mode with HGIG (the colors look washed out and a little bit too dim). So, I have to switch to DTM based on the game title to have a better experience. It seems that this issue has been fixed on the G4 model. I'm here trending to return my G3 and pay full price for this G4. Will it be worth it? 😅😅😅
If you’re within your return window I would. Gaming on the G4 is excellent. Paying that much for a TV you might keep for a long time it’s best to get the one you want.
Just be sure to check forums and make sure a G3 fix isn’t out or coming first.
@@thedisplayguy Thank you
where can i find those abstract hdr 4k vi marketing videos?
is that 55 inch or 65?
Where is the link to the video you mentioned about the best settings for this tv?

Not sure if I missed it but how was shadow detail and black crush?
It’s been improved a lot
LG stands for LET'S GOOOO!!!
Technically it stands for Lucky Goldstar but yes, let's go!
@@MistyKathrine Let's go with let's go.
1550 nits on a 10% window? Reviewers from avsforum said less, about 1480 but in a 2% window. What you measured in a 2% window or you haven't?
Clarity is super good. But in fortnite sample colors look more Grey compared to QD-OLEDs colors. Lack of pop. Or Iam wrong?
Input lag in game mod??
It seems everyone here in the comments knows what he is talking about, so at the risk of sounding super stupid, I’ll ask.
I went to your suggestions for the image settings but I’m confused. You mention Windows 11 and make some changes there… does it mean these settings are for people using the TV as a PC monitor?
I’m using it as a regular TV AND trying to find image settings for my G4 65” in all three SDR, HDR and DV inputs.
😊 thanks!
This or the New Sony Brava 9?
Eh, I'm still going for that Asus or AW3225QF. I have a Asus rog strix PG279Q and since the first year I've had it I've kept it at 20-25% brightness, fan lights on in my bedroom with no issues. QD-OLED pls :3
_Oh, this is a tv XD_
Is this the same model LG G4 65" OLED EVO 4K SMART TV
Yes thats just a larger size, review is 55

10 bit or 12 bit panel - PC Hookup Question
Valeu!
Thanks 🙏
The king for now. Until an issue comes up and its no longer king :P Its too bad that they dont put their best products with their monitors as well.
Not a king..s95c. S90d s95d still beat it
@BT_01 only marginally in colour luminance. S95D also has better specular highlights, but because of the new anti reflective coating you loose some of that pop you get from Glossy panels. Every other aspect G4 dumps on anything Samsung.
@@BT_01 Samsung has never been the king of anything.
@@comgeturs they have, the king of unreliability
@ahmaddoshan845 my modded s95c wud beat the crap out of g4 let alone s95d which hits 3100 nits
So without calibration it’s a mess
S95d 55 best the king ⚜️
Why does the TV say LG QNED 8K Mini LED? It's a 4k Oled. 2:05 .. Sus.
S95d monitor
This monitor doesn't have the pixel density to be used as a PC monitor. You need 8K at these screen sizes.
Is their new processor not worth mentioning? They hyped it a lot and other content creators are hyping it up as well. Apparently their new processor is more aggressive even on 4k hdr content to supposedly give more pop and sharper edges. Which sounds fantastic but makes one wonder why the original source is bad enough that a processor can improve it on the fly.
Still would like to hear more on the processing since a lot of content nowadays from streaming services is low bitrate not even 4k content quality that better processing can be a selling feature between tvs.
Makes you wonder if it’s just hype cause reports are saying they basically caught up to Sony in processing.
LG bring back the 120hz and now a new 144hz OLED Motion Pro option 🙏
Didn’t your modified S95C hit 2000 nits ?
I'm pretty sure not even the s95d can do that without
My modified s95c hits 2000 n my modified s95d hits 3000.. s95d is the best by far despite having matte panel but u must mod it to get that contrast
@@BT_01 Heard you can’t get into the S95Ds menu anymore! What’s the code?
@NexGenTek Steps:
U need remote: AA81002423B or a service remote with the factory n info button
2.) INFO, Factory
3.) Hover “Advanced” then type “0098”
There is no way that an LG mla oled will look better than a qd oled.
Lol not worth $2600 when you get a 77 inch S90C for $1800
Yup, and modded, in the eye there is no difference in brightness
What about horrible dirty screen effect lg is notorious for?
7:22 42" LG G4 was probably an error
How can something that's not be qdoled be king
Why do you look blue in this video? The skin tone looks way off here
What happened?
Great review man. I actually place an order for this tv set in 77 inch and was wondering whether you would know of a adjustable height stand sturdy enough to support this large beast. I don't want to drill holes in the walls to wall mount it and i'd like to be able to adjust the height to accommodate a sound bar at a later point in time. I would very much appreciate if you could point me to a link / refer me to a specific stand. THX
Nah f the haters. You built this channel on being hyper critical. TBH. I usually disagree with you on your opinion. But I think guy like you are needed to help push the industry forward.
This
I want to know how it compares to Sony's A95L 😏
There’s a review for against it and it beat it in most parts only colour brightness still better on the sony but overall detail, upscaling and brightness it was better. Motion is much much better this year the same as the Sonys pretty much
@@falsehope5529 Post the link?
old qd oled still beating lg xD (same nits, more color volume)
Uniformity ? hehe , we'll se on 83'' version !!!!!
bro, compares fortnite in 1440p windowed Vs 4k FULL screen , I think when u get to 4K you cant go back to 1440p, its much more detailed . I have 4070 Ti Super and got 100 fps with specs 4K, dlss balanced, ambient oclusion + Reflexion lumen epic RT + all epic (no virtual shadows) if I had 4080 it would go 120 fps easy, and I almost got 4080, I didnt because its just 15% and wont be too much of a difference, I am waiting the blackwell line to get truly 4k RT 5080 (with dlss of course but will be amazing I am excited)
Would you recommend The LG G4 over Sony A95L ? My usage is 33% Movies, 33% Sports, 33% Games.
no BFI is a bust
I dont understand why you always show various color painting when u should be showing colorful openworld games running footage in that kind of display
if only the remote would be normal..
Hi Mr display Guy. 😂😂whatsup with the mustache 😮
So they caught up to last year's S90C, well done.
They didnt, woled is dirty screen effect king... Instant return for me
You basically want this as a gaming monitor at 32 inches
Grey bezel reflects light onto the screen. Horrible DSE returned mine.
Did you try a manual pixel clean?
Dam that was my fear! Returned the G3 because of the DSE
What the hell is DSE?

I just am not into smart TVs
Just a buy a s90c and hold onto it.
This is a marginal upgrade, marginal in he single digits.
Yall people will need your money when the 5090 comes out in the fall.
Marginal upgrades like this ain't worth it, in the grand scheme of things.
you should have stayed with GPUs ;)
Thumbs down for the lack of data. I'm not here for your euphemisms/"feelings".
Considering the costs it's just bad.
No they haven't or else we wouldn't still have a Wii remote 😂
Once gta 6 comes put G6 will be out ha
Extremely overpriced...

Too big. Only interested in desktop monitors. I play pc games, not consoles. And it’s expensive
Paid review don’t listen to this crap
No. I bought the TV.
At dealer cost so 40% off?
Thank you for this review! I'm waiting until the G4 83" drops in price so I can upgrade from the S95C. I cant stand thr intermittent blackouts with my 3090 gaming PC. I briefly tried out the QN900D 65", and I experienced blackouts from time to time. Samsung needs to ditch the One Connect Box!
I read that it was better to get the s90c in 77inch as it had gen 2 panel but no shit box
If it's any consolation, I get blackouts on their older QN90A and I don't have a one connect box.
@@lordwicked8855 It was a warranty accomodation for a defective QN95BD. Trust me I pushed for the S90C, but they didn't have them in stock. Once I get the G4, the S95C is going in our bedroom. It only drops connection with my gaming PC. Everything else is fine.
@@kaizer-777 Damn... What type of cables are you using? How long are they? I had the QN95C 85" which supports 4x HDMI 2.1 ports with 4K144. No dropouts whatsoever.
The blackouts are caused by a faulty chip in the OCB. You can lodge a repair claim with samsung for free. Just dont expect the 'fixed' chip to not fuckup again. Ive been through all the bullshit with the s95c 100 times over and ill never buy their brand again
