Excellent idea posting them in a civilian medical institution be in on an ambulance or a hospital. The USAF PJ"s send their members also to civilian ER's or to ambulance crews at Fire Departments. Great real world training and service to the civilian population.

Wanted to get into the military in 2018 when I graduated, didn’t know which trade I was interested in at the time, unfortunately before I was able to make my decision I got into a car accident with a semitruck, through my recovery process Ive had alot of time to think about what career I want, I believe Medical technician is the trade for me, Gonna have to return to school for bio and chemistry, hoping everything goes to plan. This looks like an awesome career and the training and skills you acquire in this trade are transferable to being a paramedic. Hoping that being 22 years of age doesn’t hurt when Its time to apply.

@@witty401son never did it, government yanked the paramedic certificate from the training so being a medical technician no longer certifies you as a paramedic, thus you’ll have to pay the $7000 for paramedic training anyways.. and they wonder why we’re so low on paramedics. I spoke to a medical technician on the phone for awhile and he said unless you’re doing something like combat engineering or MP, the military is almost a waste of time.. also you don’t need any highschool science courses to apply to be a paramedic.. the whole system is shifty.

How competitive is the application process for Med Tech? I imagine it varies from year to year, but I could also imagine a scenario where Medical Technician is an always-in-demand kind of career.
Does the demand for Medical Technician vary by Army vs Navy vs Air Force?
If someone were about to apply with a 90% average for Grade 12U Chemistry and Biology, where would they fit amongst their peers in terms of competition?
    Any answers would be appreciated!

I am very interested and possibly thinking of a career as a Med tech in the CAF. I have my licensed EMR in Alberta as well as a medical background University degree. I have done some research and understand a little about the process to become a med tech and how you will work on a base after your have graduated the course. What are the opportunities like for deployment, and how is a specific individual chosen? Also if i want to fight along side other CAF members in possible hostile situations is this a thing, and does a med tech interested in this have to do any specific type of training?

If you have the chance to continue upgrading your civilian EMS skills or even your First Aid Instructor courses, while waiting to get into the military go for it. CWO Ferguson (I believe) 1fd Ambulance Calgary told me that as his medics were getting on the buses to go too Gulf War 1. I went back and finished my courses at SAIT, while I had been serving in 15 Med Coy Calgary, then Calgary Highlander, S.A.L.H. I AND FINALLY 1 Field Ambulance Det Suffield. I served from March 1989 to September 2009 and was medical released. My last 12 years were at CFB Suffield Medical Centre, (1997-2009) my best 12 out of my total of 33 years (British and Canadian).

You are issued a C7A2 assault rifle and a Browning 9mm, at least I was while deployed. Field training, you are expected to operate a C6 GPMG a C7 assault rifle (the same one you get in BMQ) as well as being trained on a C9A2 LMG and the C13 hand Grenade (I used my grenade pouches for snacks and Combat Application Tourniquets. 'Spitz' is your friend in the field.) and a Carl Gustav RPG. This being said, you are not issued these weapons typically, just expected to know how to operate them (Dont worry, you'll be more than fully trained on these weapons prior to starting medical training.)

What I'm doing (aiming toward Med Tech as well) is re-taking high school courses online. I'm in both Grade 12U Chemistry and Biology. Once I finish these two courses (currently rocking a 95 average), the goal is to begin the application process to the CAF and start my physical training in preparation. I understand it can take from 6 to 18 months to get an offer to begin Basic.
Cheers, fellow Canuk. Hope to see you there someday!
