Your lettering looks fine. Your daughter draws beautifully. I'm not overly impressed with the wood burning effect. It reminds me more of drawing with magic marker on wood.
I loved the C letter, for that design you cold layer the colours, like do everything in the palest shade, heat to see, next add a little more liquid for the next dark on top and so on
I just watched your video for the first time and I Love the berry vine your daughter did around the edge of wood slice. I am an artist and I was thinking that it would look really cool to add a pop of color by painting the berrys with a berry color and maybe green on the leaves. You could thin the paint with water to do like a wash. I've actually done that with my woodburning and it's fun to do.
So I just tried using a wood burning pen for the first time ever. I got myself the cheap version from Temu and was quite excited to try it out. Sadly it did not work AT ALL! It simply stayed orange. Even though I took a long enough time with my heat gun… nothing. Even when I finally kept the heat gun on so long that the wood itself got brown: still no reaction from the ink. I’ll go back to ‘the real thing’.
I like your comparison it was very well done but I'm thinking you could do the same thing with a few pens. Doesn't really look wood burned if you get my drift. Thanks anyway.
You said something about scorch marker adding the product into a jar or bottle to do larger projects. well there is a torch paste for wood burning that does that for you.
Whenever I try this method on various type of wood, the marker ink seems to bleed into the wood when I’m going over with the heat gun, is it the pen or me doing something wrong?
I have never tried using it on stained or varnished wood, but I don't recommend it. The heat gun you use to turn the scorchmarker ink to a burned look will probably mess up your varnished wood. It may peel, bubble or melt the varnish. It's only meant to be used on raw wood. Maybe acrylic paint would work better; or even art markers.
Okay so I have a question. Once you heat it and it burns in, It looks very similar to sharpie.much more so than the burns I've done with my pen which of course add some level of scorch and depth.... That being said If you seal it, would you be able to tell the difference between it having been burned with this, or if I broke out a marker?
It is burning, but it's some kind of solution that reacts to heat, not a dye. It doesn't really smoke, but there is a smell. Kind of reminds of a hair dryer type of heat smell.
I haven’t used the scorch marker I am new to wood burning but I have found that a soft grade sand paper can take out pencil marks and over burns on your piece. I sand over my work when I’m done. Also is the chemical coming out of the scorch marker hazardous?
Hello! I’m sure like a lot of people I’m trying to research and get the most for my $. I was wondering if this pen contains a lot of the solution? And how much it takes? I wanted to make some 4” wooden name ornaments for Christmas and need to make about 6. Any help would be much appreciated Thanks in advance and thanks for sharing, great review. I just discovered you and glad to have some more videos to binge, I’m as newbie as it gets💜
Did you do all the projects shown w/just 1 pen? That would sort of give me an idea how much you could do w/just 1. I’m not good w/math & ounces and such lol
Also I just watched your Walnut Hollow Versa Tool. I heard you say it was great for beginners. It’s only $7 more. I think I’m gonna go that way since you said it was great for beginning. Back to watching more of your videos. TFS;)
I'm not sure how they would react together, but I don't recommend it. Burning after apply a varnish will release harmful chemicals, so apply before varnish, then burn.
Also the other tip is "foam" and when I opened it, I was expecting a tip not a brush or liquid to pour out! So I need to find the type you have.. send me the link or name please bc I'm using my phone and can never find the links listed below videos
Hey Elaine, I was just browsing for it on Amazon and I can’t find it either. All I could find was the new Pro Scorch Marker. I’m not sure if they are out of stock or if they don’t make the original anymore. Here’s the link if you want to take a look. amzn.to/3Ex5MkQ Also, maybe try their website and see if it has the original marker or any info about it being discontinued.
We are just starting doing this with wood we sliced from the yard. We have about 20 slices and won't be doing all of them at once. Can we seal them with polyurethane and then burn on them or is there a better way to make the wood last longer and not crack until we use it?
igotslickshoes I wouldn’t varnish them with anything before burning. You want to always make sure to burn raw wood. The chemicals aren’t good for you to breathe and they are too harsh on your tips. I’ve never burned on wood slices I cut before, so I’m not sure how to keep them from cracking, but I highly recommend not burning them if they have chemicals on them.
It's not. :) I think it's best for someone who doesn't want to invest a lot of money in burning equipment, but just a handful of projects. I think it would be good for younger kids that you don't want using a wood burning wand.
Soy Colombiana y me encanta lo que haces, estoy aprendiendo y tu canal ha Sido el mejor de todos, eres una profesional...me encantó!!! Gracias
Those are some impressive freehand letters!
I love this! I love woodburning but my hand gets numb and starts to hurt after a few minutes. This is a great alternative. Thanks for the review!
You're so welcome!
I totally agree with her about the jar for dipping a brush into for larger areas.❤❤❤❤❤
Oh my goodness your hand lettering is perfect! Lol...how do you write so straight without lines????!!! IM AMAAAAAZED! Beautiful writing...
Your lettering looks fine.
Your daughter draws beautifully. I'm not overly impressed with the wood burning effect. It reminds me more of drawing with magic marker on wood.
Oh my goodness your bloopers are hilarious. Loved it. Thank you
Lol! Thanks!
Your daughter is as talented as you are!! Amazing
You are so kind
Your lettering is amazing. So much progress from the video I saw the other day.
Love your hair!!!
Thank you!!
I loved the C letter, for that design you cold layer the colours, like do everything in the palest shade, heat to see, next add a little more liquid for the next dark on top and so on
Love to learn from you, my things are in the mail. Also Love the bloopers take care.
Thanks Ken!!

I described !!! I LOVE your bloopers!! 😂😂😂😂
Frugally Fancy LOL! Thanks!

Oh no! I’ve never tried a knock off version before; thanks for the warning!!
They are $22 at our local supplier.
Yeah, this pen is super, super cool!!! Great video!!!!
Thanks!
So awesome!
Great video! Thanks for sharing!😻
You bet!
Beautiful
I like your comparison it was very well done but I'm thinking you could do the same thing with a few pens. Doesn't really look wood burned if you get my drift. Thanks anyway.
You absolutely could. Thanks for watching!!
You said something about scorch marker adding the product into a jar or bottle to do larger projects. well there is a torch paste for wood burning that does that for you.
Awesome!!
I do pyrography but I have shaky hands which makes smooth lines! I might use a combination of this and my pyrography pen!
How did you learn to write to like that? I am so impressed!!
Just take the top of the marker. The fluid is inside. Dip a paint brush in it and have fun
Bleed also face grain Vs end grain like the wood rounds.
That is amazingly cool! 💜 your channel 💗
Thanks Janie!
Love it thank you for sharing this with me
You are so welcome
❤
Whenever I try this method on various type of wood, the marker ink seems to bleed into the wood when I’m going over with the heat gun, is it the pen or me doing something wrong?
Liquids just tend to bleed into wood fibers. It's not just you.
Will the marker work on stained and finished wood? I'd like to make a Cricut stencil of words on a wooden gift box. Thanks.
Soooo... Why not just use a regular marker? Especially if what you want is more color?
Oh I can, it’s just fun to experiment with this particular one and see what I can do with it. :) Thanks for watching!
Probably safer for kids? And it gives the effect of wood burning
?
Okay so I have a question. Once you heat it and it burns in, It looks very similar to sharpie.much more so than the burns I've done with my pen which of course add some level of scorch and depth....
That being said If you seal it, would you be able to tell the difference between it having been burned with this, or if I broke out a marker?
LOL! Maybe not. The heat gun does add some scorching elements, but the finished look really isn't that different from a marker.
Ya I like the indentured look from the tool
Is this actually burning or a heat sensitive dye that blackens upon heating. Do you see smoke? Does it smell
It is burning, but it's some kind of solution that reacts to heat, not a dye. It doesn't really smoke, but there is a smell. Kind of reminds of a hair dryer type of heat smell.
@@Pyrocrafters thank you, I am asking because schools have so many funny rules 🙏
I think the makers advise to use a heat gun with more watts. Double check before buying.
I haven’t used the scorch marker I am new to wood burning but I have found that a soft grade sand paper can take out pencil marks and over burns on your piece. I sand over my work when I’m done. Also is the chemical coming out of the scorch marker hazardous?
I’m not sure of the toxicity of the Scorchmarker chemicals. You may want to reach out to them and see if they can give you an ingredient list.
Nice video!

Can we use after applying wipe on polyurethane that’s totally dried??
I'm not sure how they would react together, but I don't recommend it. Burning after apply a varnish will release harmful chemicals, so apply before varnish, then burn.
You have to have a high watt heat gun 1000 or more
I bought mine at Michael's for $22 & the tip is super hard like it's dried out. And it doesn't come out like that!
Also the other tip is "foam" and when I opened it, I was expecting a tip not a brush or liquid to pour out! So I need to find the type you have.. send me the link or name please bc I'm using my phone and can never find the links listed below videos

Where did you get the scorch marker pen?
Hey Brenda! I got mine on amazon. I think they have a newer version now. amzn.to/3iSck3w
What kind of heat gun is needed for that ? Where can I buy and how much roughly ?
p3ac3ke3per the chandler tool heat is great! Two heat settings: amzn.to/31gCTqq
What does it do after you heat it and then apply color, I wonder?
Ooo! Good question. I’m not sure but maybe that would be a good experiment.
Using a stencil would probably help a lot with bleeding

Nice..what name of marker
It's the Scorchmarker, there's a link in the description. Thanks!
Good learning video on this product. Too much repetitive verbiage, though.
joy shaner thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. :)
In my view this is defo not original pyrography burning I would class this scorch pen as cheating
I don't think anyone thinks of it as original pyrography. It's just an alternative. And cheating at what? Making things?
Don't seem as fun as the tool
It's not. :) I think it's best for someone who doesn't want to invest a lot of money in burning equipment, but just a handful of projects. I think it would be good for younger kids that you don't want using a wood burning wand.
