    Thank you for being so "straight to the point" instead of spending 5 minutes explaining which tool you"re using, why, what you were doing when you bought it, & what the weather outside was, etc.
    Simple, educational, quick, to the point.
    Perfect. ❤️

    From one maker to another, awesome craft! I've watched over a half dozen wood and cricut videos tonight and this was the best so far. The others weren't terrible, just too much for what I like. Gonna check your channel and see what else you're doing!

    So I want to make a sign for outside. Should I cover this with something like sealer? Let me know. Thanks for the info. I was buying chemicals that I don't need! bummer!

    • @DebsJoyfulDesigns
      @DebsJoyfulDesigns  Před 2 lety +3

      Hey there, thanks for watching! Yes, I would definitely recommend sealing for outside use. My favorite one to use is Miniwax brand helmsman indoor/outdoor spar urethane. You can get it in either a spray or a can that you paint on with a brush.

    • @DebsJoyfulDesigns
      @DebsJoyfulDesigns  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for watching! The oldest one of these I’ve made is only a few months old, but it hasn’t faded at all in that time. It would likely depend on where you put your finished piece - if it went outdoors it would most likely fade like most outdoor decor will! Mine is indoors on our fireplace mantle and it hasn’t faded 🙂

    • @DebsJoyfulDesigns
      @DebsJoyfulDesigns  Před 3 lety

      I would make sure you are sanding your surface really well before using the marker. You may want to start with a low grit sandpaper and then go over it again with a lower grit sandpaper to get your surface really smooth before using your marker!

    You don’t seem to have an issue with bleeding. Could it be the type of wood or type of marker? Have u ever had bleeding problems on wood?

    • @DebsJoyfulDesigns
      @DebsJoyfulDesigns  Před 2 lety +2

      I have had some issues with bleeding before - for me it seems to come down to how well the wood is sanded. You want to start with a low grit sandpaper and work up to a fine higher grit sandpaper. When the wood is sanded correctly the bleeding is much less!!

    Could I use that pen for cutting boards? Like is it food safe?

    • @DebsJoyfulDesigns
      @DebsJoyfulDesigns  Před 3 lety +2

      This particular one says it is non-toxic but doesn’t specifically say food safe. There are some brands that do say they are food safe though! Just look up pyrography pens or markers and you should be able to find one that is food safe 😊

  • @demijones7718
    @demijones7718 Před 3 lety

    Does anyone know if this would be safe to do on building blocks for babies or would I need to put some sort of non-toxic varnish over it?

    • @DebsJoyfulDesigns
      @DebsJoyfulDesigns  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Demi! This particular pen is not considered food safe, so my guess is to be safe you would need some type of coating over it. There are some out there that are food safe and might be a better option for something like that, but I would always err on the side of caution for anything that will be used with small kiddos!

    Are you able to stain or paint a surface and then burn into it using your method?

    • @DebsJoyfulDesigns
      @DebsJoyfulDesigns  Před 2 lety

      Hey there! I haven’t tried this method - my guess is it would work better over stain than over paint. Let us know if you decide to try it!

    • @The2Strats
      @The2Strats Před 2 lety

      Olivia, don't stain or paint first! It will not work. Burn your design first, then finish the wood with a wax or oil.

  • @loysexquisiteartdesigns7458

    I tried this but the pen bleeds and did not make straight lines...would you know how to prevent this?

    • @DebsJoyfulDesigns
      @DebsJoyfulDesigns  Před 2 lety

      Hey there! The biggest thing that will help this is making sure your surface is sanded down very smoothly before using the pen. You want to start with a lower sandpaper grit and move up to a higher grit. The other thing that will help is making sure your stencil is adhered well to the wood before starting! The scraper tool can help with that, but you can also use your fingers to go around the edges of the stencil to make sure they are all down well 😊

    How do get the wood around the design not to discolor ?

    • @DebsJoyfulDesigns
      @DebsJoyfulDesigns  Před rokem

      Hey! The stencil should be well adhered to keep the ink from leaking through. After you’ve colored the design, if you are worried about the wood discoloring you could always seal it with a spray sealer to keep it from discoloring! I usually use water based sealant - it is a little harder to find, but the oil based sealant tends to discolor a bit.
