‘It's Leading to Family Separation’: Indian-American Doctors on Green Card Backlog | The Quint

  • The current estimated wait time for Indian nationals entering the green card backlog is 195 years to get permanent residency in the US. Indian-American doctors argue why that's unfair, what the Biden Administration could've done and why they won't give up on protesting until their demands are heard.

Hello, guys i understand they must have gone there for money or for a better life style . But there must be a lot of them who have studied alot more get into the prestigious institutions up there. The Doctor is a person who risk's his life for others . And Doctors are for all humans( no matter what race they are).
Lets respect their feelings and revive ours too what we are thought here in india.

want to clarify that this 7% rule is discriminatory against Indians and Chinese. When H1B visas are granted disproportionately to Indians and Chinese, then no one says that there should be a 7% country limit on H1B visas and that people of Indian or Chinese origin should not get more than 7% of the H1B visas. But when it comes to giving Greencards, then they don't want these same people to get Greencards. The lawyers and USCIS make money on this frequent renewal but keep innocent people locked in Greencard hell. They are giving H1B to Indians and Chinese to make them work, but everybody other than Indians and Chinese get the Greencard as the wait is 195 years for Indians and 18 years for Chinese. So get the work from Indian and Chinese and discriminate them. If that is the case US should advise people of Indian and Chinese origin when applying H1B that they have no chance at all of ever getting a Greencard!
Many politicians have talked about Greencard reform in the USA, but nothing has been done for the last 15-20 years. This is like caste, class, race discrimination. The fact that they can discriminate on the basis of the country of birth is downright unfair. But Indians and Chinese mmigrants are only here to be exploited.
Anyway the de facto message of Republicans and Democrats both is the following: Indians and Chinese not welcome! I only say this to many young students whose only fault is that they have an Indian or Chinese birth certificate. They say US is the land of opportunity. Actually it is The LAND OF DISCRIMINATION. Final message of US Government: INDIAN AND CHINeSE GET OUT!

So stupid! Not all countries can get 7% …. Percent means 100!
7% is a limit per country - the problem is that there are too many people from India. If a million people from UK or wherever applied only 7% of them would get it.
On top of that - Indian citizens get spillovers amounting to anywhere between 15-25% of available green cards.
The purpose is to make sure one country doesn’t overwhelm the system and take over USA influence by one country.
I agree medical professions need a different path. But certainly the US doesn’t need 75% coders from one country - and that’s what these doctors are stuck behind. Indian tech companies based in USA who swamp the H1B program. That needs to end

When they find out that they cannot get a green card, their freedom and happiness erodes away irrespective of how much money they make. In the end, they always get this gut feeling of not being a part of the society, being an alien.

      1. The nation-alist bullshit that if one leaves his/her coun-try its because he/she hates his/her coun-try. The money sent back by this people help Ind-ia more than you could ever by staying in Indi-a.
      2. Indi-a doesn't offer them better life, if that was the case they wouldn't have left Ind-ia in the first place. It's because Indi-a doesn't have jobs that they leave, or the jobs that do exist doesn't offer the right money.
Also if they would have stayed in In-dia there would be further unemployment here. So immigration of Indi-ans to other countries is good for In-dia not bad.

India has zero infrastructure. Why somebody wanna work in a place where there is no access to quality of life. We live for ourselves first and then for the others.
It's government responsibility to provide better healthcare infrastructure and pay to doctors. The developed nations have leaders who focus on such thing. People in India still believe that materialism is bad. It's not bad. When you have access to good quality of life your will to work increases.
India has huge problem with sanitation and hygiene. What's the use of earning even decent amount in India when you can't breathe fresh air, walk on a clean street.
