I’m a 66 year old retired nurse who knows pretty much nothing about the world of fashion but somehow I stumbled upon your channel and I have to tell you it’s now one of my favorites. I have learned so much from you, your knowledge of the industry and the history of each designer’s work always impresses me. Thank you so much for a window into another world for me.
YES👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I concur
Yay! Glad to have you a part of the family!
I stumbled onto him too after years of looking for someone like him cause I simply love fashion!...although only know very little. U are so right, he is such a breath of fresh air! Able to speak so intelligently about fashion. Haven't seen that quite as much since maybe Joann River's Fashion Police
Me too😉
Same here, i am 50 years old pharmacist from Argentina 🇦🇷, and here i am.
Yes indeed
I am an old babushka but my granddaughters are 16 ❤
the fact that bretman's the only social media influencer here speaks how he's built different with other influencers and how he takes fashion seriously
he knows his worth & avoids drama
Not taking fashion seriously is not the only reason a lot of people dress poorly, as a celeb you can’t just wear anything you want to a public event. Fashion houses pick who to lend their pieces to, and they rank people based on how famous they are, how influential they are, if their brand is compatible with the celeb’s image, whether if their stylist (let alone the fact that not everyone can afford a stylist) have connections with the houses. If a fashion house lend their piece to the wrong person, for example to an unknown influencer who has a bad reputation, the fashion house’s clients (the 1% of the world) will not want to buy that piece. It’s all very interesting and a very secluded world.
@@quester09 he avoids drama by cosplaying as black women stereotypes and using AAVE ? Ummm ok
There’s even a ranking of different types of fashion pieces based on how hard they are to borrow from fashion houses, (most celebs borrow, rarely do they own every piece they wear to every event)if I remember correctly vintage coutures like what Bella hadid wore is the hardest to borrow, haute couture is slightly easier, and ready to wear is the easiest. The more rich and famous you are (plus other factors), the more chance you have.
@AURI DONE YET?? Reducing Bretman’s lived experience as a person of color and their use of a vernacular readily available on the internet and as part of internet personas beyond daily life to ‘cosplay’ seems to have its own racial stereotypes in play. Please be careful with how you word your accusations. You would damn him if you thought he got rid of it once fame hit him and you decry him for keeping it consistent with his worldview. Hm…
I would LOVE to hear your take on the fashions from The Glass Onion. the costume designers really outdid themselves this go around and there were some MOMENTS.
I second this request!
This this this!
Agreed!!
The rainbow metallic dress still lives in my head
I literally think about Zendaya's after party look like every other week. And that's how you know that it was STUNNING.
Appreciate you acknowledging that you'd done the Met Gala video so fast, so you didn't know about the Buffalo Soldier reference. It's okay for us to learn and acknowledge!
I feel like Doja just looked amazing so many times throughout 2022 - and I love the space elements constantly to relate to her album “planet her”
That Zendaya suit is best dressed of the century for me that's how much i love that look
Jodie Turner-Smith and Taylor Russell hands down consistently looked fabulous on all of the carpets they did. So excited to see the fashion moments of this year.
Just want to point out that Jada is absolutely tiny! Like she’s only 4’11” and she doesn’t look like she’s drowning in the dress. I call that couture.
Levi Innes. Definitely not my favourite, plus the fact that JPS is a malignant narcissist and was behind the absolutely despicable behaviour of her husband, he turned the Oscars into a “ night at the ghetto”. Her affair with a drug addicted, young, friend of her son with mental health issues, was deviant & disgusting. I believe she’s so jealous of Wills success, she had to punish him for it. She should team up with Amber Turd, Memegain Markle, and Casey Anthony as 2022’s most narcissistic women on the planet.
Anne Hathaway is always the best dressed.
nah she just upped her game this year
@@_peepee_ I thought she looked like a clown, oops I’ll probably get my head bitten off for saying this.
@@gregoryholstein3033 christopher john waters isnt for everyone
@@_peepee_ Yes I agree, that was a really nice reply, thank you.
@@_peepee_ she's been a best dressed even before. She always looks class, grace and stunning and that's what makes her diff. to other celebs nowadays.
“Girls, touch grass, go outside” - iconic.
luke!! i work in politics and i think it would be such a fun idea if you did a fashion overview/critique of the professional wear of popular politicians over 2022, some turned looks! and other fumbled so horribly. content other than just celebrities could also open up such a cool discussion you haven't tapped into
LOVE this idea! Hope it gets more likes and he sees it
Great idea. I’d click right away. Commenting for boost.
I would love a historical political video too. Imagine one about Jackie Kennedy 👀
Too sensitive to try and cover political fashion- it’d probably bring the wrong audience in the comments also… dependent on whomever‘s outfits’ feature.. Even if he tried to remain as neutral as possible.
Plus there’s no emphasis on always being fashion forward in order to pushing the limits of fashion. Needing to dig thru tons of boring suits sounds less than fun for him and whoever else he works with when viewing red carpets which don’t even really have a place in politics.
I totally agree
History of the Buffalo soldiers, for anyone who is interested: The US Army began allowing African American men to serve their country in the midst of the Civil War, 1863. They called these regiments the United States Colored Troops, or USCT. Over 150,000 men enlisted. They suffered heavier causalities than their white counterparts, due to a number of factors. After the war, the USCT was disbanded. However, many black men re-enlisted in the Army and served in the West (west Texas, New Mexico, etc.) in newly formed segregated regiments (9th & 10th cavalry, 24th & 25th infantry, and Second 38th Infantry), building infrastructure and protecting settlers and mail from Native American interference, which had up til then prevented settlement in those areas. It was around this time that these new regiments got the nickname Buffalo Soldiers, but the way they got the name is highly disputed. These regiments earned great respect for their courage, ingenuity and honor. The buffalo soldiers regiments continued until 1948 when the military was integrated.
Hi Luke! I know this isn’t the purpose of the channel but I want to thank you cause your videos really help me. I have ADHD and listening to you while I do my house work (which I hate) always helps. Also, your skin is looking amazing! Much love!
same and same! Thanks for the inspo!
same same same! I do like doing housework, but Luke's videos def help me stay on track and get it done quicker.
Omg shut up. I gave ADHD and I'm cleaning while watching this video RN !!!
I relate to this, haha
omg me too haha he’s like the only one
It easy design for a slim body, a designer show his skills when style diversity of bodies.
I always love Luke's take on fashion moments and immensely respect when he revises his views based on additional details. That is the kind of criticism and commentary we want in all areas of media. My top fav was Michelle Yeoh in Bottega Veneta. The silhouette, material, color all mixed into the icon that is Michelle Yeoh won me over.
You are a walking encyclopedia of international fashion history, Luke!
the reason the cjr polka dot look looks so good on Hathaway is not only because she's exudes confidence and vibrancy but her natural coloring is a dark winter which means she looks the best in saturated, bright colors so even though the clothes itself is very loud it compliments annes energy beautifully. if someone with more muted coloring like Gigi Hadid wore it it wouldn't have looked as good
Could you please do a Vivienne Westwood sort of homage? Because Vogue doesn’t seem to be bothering
Yoooo I know! It's so strange how quiet they've been about her passing, and fashion CZcams has been quiet as well, when she's an industry giant and changed the face of fashion. I hope we get more content explaining her legacy and influence.
Yes!! I had to find out myself that she died because I heard NO ONE talking about it
THIS.
If for no other reason that she designed the dress that Carrie Bradshaw wore to her non-wedding to Mr. Big. She was a giant of the industry and I can’t understand why the World of Fashion. WTF??
I don't think you're obsessed with Harry styles, I think you appreciate his forward thinking and innovative take on fashion.
TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU on AYO!!!! 🔥🔥🔥 She ATE all year -- but she really, really killed it @ CFDA in Thom Browne!! 🔟🔟🔟🔟🔟 Excited to see her continue to serve LEWKS!
I just realized from this video, how great it is to hear you talk about fashion you love. So much of the time you are talking about why red carpet fashion bad with a few diamonds in the ruff, and no shade meant by that! It more speaks to what is being worn than anything about you. But regardless, loved this video!
Absolutely agree. His facial expressions when he loves something are adorable!
Doja Cat was out there being the eye tower of Mordor and no one is talking about it
Awesome choices/selections! I love the diversity of looks and having to challenge myself to accept stunning looks from people I'd rather...not. I truly appreciate your references and ability to highlight nuances of the outfits I'd most certainly overlook and instead, I'm able to learn. I appreciate you, sir.
So much work to put this together! And so beautifully done! 👏🏾 Bravo!
Nothing wrong with liking Harry and the way he dresses on the red carpets of this world (sadly rare appearances but always different and never boring, which…thank you Harry) and thank you for giving credit where credit is due by mentioning it :) dream team double Harry 🙌🏼
The only fashion CZcams channel that I subscribe! Great review and I have to begrudgingly agree that Jada's look was 🔥
Luke, have been watching your videos from India, and the best part is when you delve into the history/references/industry details of designers and fashionhouses.
Would love a video about your education and what/ who influenced you. Appreciate your growth as a critic; accepting ignorance about Buffalo Boys and calling for inclusive sizing. You are gonna be the Roger Ebert of fashion reviews!
A very good summary, I loved your choices, also BIG AGREE on the normalize the baby bump!
gurl you can be humble all u want but i choose 2 believe the versace deities were DIRECTLY inspired by ur content 💅🏾💅🏾 (ps-- it's been SO crazy to witness ur channel grow and flourish in real time. it's only been a few days but 2023 is already giving big 1 MIL energy 😍 so effing proud of you luke!!!!!)
This is such a nice collection, my feel good watch for the day, thankss
Harry's team really excelled on the suit's shade. The suit with different green hues was my best, he performs well for red carpet to me
Your Marvelous!! Your pics were great there were a few I didn't like but the majority were great. 2022 was a great year for fashion, at least we had that! Thanks
ran into you outside the rock a couple weeks ago, you looked fab and we’re so friendly!
Thank u, honey, for your work 💙💛 lovelovelove
This just made my day ❤️
Kaia Gerber at the Academy Museum Gala in Alaïa and Blake Lively in Versace at Met Gala were the best of the best looks in 2022 for me ❤
Oooooohhhhh those were gorgeous moments 😍
Agree, they both served
Skindaledge in my new world for 2023😅👏✨👏 great commentary as always ❤️
Thank you for that acknowledgement on Ashton Sanders’ look Luke!
I am super envious of that purple leopard print knit fit
Loved this video ⚡️
Great video!
Billy Porters shoulders reminds me of a fallen angel- the wings broken off and just the stumps remaining.
Love, love, love this bideo of the best!
Hello Luc,
Your cardigan? Looks extremely cozy! Loving it!
I would love to see you react to Sasha Velour's closet tour. She explains the clothes a lot and they're all super unique and extravagant.
Worth noting I think the Chloe sevigny look was supposed to evoke the shape of the Cala Lilly’s she carried. Such a fashion girl wedding dress for suuuure
I read your comment right before I saw her dress and I was amazed, definitely meant to look like a calla Lily and it worked too ❤
your intro is so calming
Regarding Gigi's look it may be said that it quotes the grandiosity and blunt femininity of the gilded age
there is A LOT. and it's fabulous 😻
Luv your content
hey luke! fan here, id love if you could make a video about violet and gottmik looks, i really think that you guys have quiet similar taste on fashion . btw i love how this channel has grown so much!! keep it up
You have amazing communication skills, and i enjoy listening to you and..cant wait for the 2022 roast
Happy NY Luke
“The chicest head of lettuce I’ve ever seen”
A compliment I can only hope to aspire to.
HEY BUDDY..happy New YEARS BEAUTIFUL!! HAVEN'T seen you in a while!! LET'S go 2023
Agree! Jada nailed it in that fabulous gown!
Lil Nas was a strong 2nd
Love it.
Glenn Martens had all the moments rightfully so…Zendaya in Sportmax 💯 love how she made a well tailored black suit so memorable
The Buffalo Soldiers were a big thing in the west-especially in the early national parks- during the Guilded Age as well, so he seriously nailed it. (Edited for punctuation)
Even the just jacket on the Johns Rogers outfit looks stunning. Take the jacket just as it is and pair it with a white top and trousers. Or just change out the corset top and make it white. It would set off all the other colors. Love the way the pleats on the pants cause the pants to drape. Jodie Turner Smith looked terrific. Denim certainly looked elegant. I agree that it was an interesting dress.
Yeesssssss! Those leopard shpots
I like your sweater!!
Luke, please please please review 2022 Brit Fashion Awards. It is fashion awards, not some music awards. So it would be interesting. Please 🙏🏼
Jada had a memorable look but her man made it also unforgettable
Glad you talked about larger sizes not being made.. wowza. What year is it? Fashion should look good on all bodies.
Agreed. Brands should be making a range of sizes (though I think the Miu Miu skirt shouldn’t have made it off the runway since it’s only useful as coverage for one’s underwear, if that 😬).
@@cinephile1712 haha yeah that skirt was... barely a skirt lol
As a plus size fashion girl, always a bit sad about this. I am a wannabe designer myself, and I just wonder why designers wouldn’t take on the task of making things for bigger bodies as a sort of personal challenge. I mean, I feel like it would hone their skills even more. It’s certainly been honing mine
Casablanca is one of the best brands to come up in the last few years (at least I’m my opinion)❤ love that you went back and chose a look of theirs.
YES
Thank you Luke. Your choice was fabulous for the Best Dressed in 2023.
For me, it was the understated simple yet flawless cut and beautifully fitted suit of Zendaya's where she's wearing Sportsmax.
I hadnt seen dove camerons iris van herpen dress and i really liked it!!!
About the Miu-Miu scirt: I think, if people don't have really small backside, all kinds of bodyparts would hang out of the dress. I wouldn't dare to wear it as a size M.
I think that’s Luke’s point though. Why are we so repulsed by a little bulge?
@@abandonablesnowman i'm ok with bulge I just want to look at the photoshop edit file for that picture. Rare for skin to look that cohesive at that age. Looks very fake to me. I'm not all that into that style either. I'm sure she's that thin but the skin looks a bit too plastic.
Yesssss never clicked something so fast
Luke's eye is drawn to structure, and I appreciate that as I sew and tailor clothing. He appreciates the work that needs to happen to especially make the flowy things look effortless even though they are the hardest looks to pull off.
Totally agree. Jada nailed it
Drink every time he says intriguing 😏 love your videos 💐
Always a fan of your comments.👍
This is my Super Bowl
currently obsessed with taylor russell omg
Ayo's Thom Brown campaign looks where absolutly stunning and you're correct that she desserves her flowers
not including gaga's ralph lauren bafta look where she was nomited for best actress is insane
Michelle Yeoh is IT
Zendaya in that red number at the Emmy afterparty was everything !
The time of pregnancy is not the problem. Mostly is the time after a pregnancy when the body shaming begins.
I do love Billy Porter's theme of "I found a steamer trunk from 1919 in the attic that belonged to my eccentric aunt".
So that's what it was. 🤣
Lovely to see Chloe - she looks gorgeous.
"girls... touch grass" lolol
The thing that stands out about Jada P Smith’s look is it shouldn’t have worked. It’s a gigantic floof of a dress and she is a tiny woman. I would have thought she’d be swallowed up by it, but she wasn’t. She looked great.
I love Luke's jumper.
Hey Luke! I’d love to know your thoughts on the Louis Vuitton X Yayoi Kusama collaboration that just launched 😊
i think gigis weird versace met gala moment was my fav of the year its just so cool
Gigi Hadids met gala look literally took my breath away
Personal Favorites
5:24 Bella Hadid - Versace
10:46 Dakota Johnson - Gucci
23:07 Michelle Yeoh - Bottega Veneta (yellow leather feather skirt)
14:50 Harry Styles - Gucci
31:47 Zendaya - Sportsmax
Personal Fails
1:03 Anne Hathaway - Christopher John Rogers
7:53 Billy Porter - Rick Owens
22:12 Lizzo - Jean Paul Gaultier
Surprised you went with the miu miu Nicole Kidman cover instead of the diesel cover she did - she’s had a great fashion year
Amen!!! Those looks were amazing!
Haven't watched yet but somebody in a BUSTLE better be included here. That was such a thing last year
Gigi at the MET was my favorite look of the year. So breathtaking. Also looked super heavy, but she wore it gracefully
Is the Worst Dressed coming out soon Luke? xxxxx
I loved Jada's looked.
Even after watching your channel for months, I still can’t predict whether you’re going to love or hate a lot of clothes. I thought Anne Hathaway looked terrible.
is Zendaya still being styled by Law Roach? why no mention? every look she turns out is via his seemingly impeccable eye. Stunning every time.
I believe she is still working with Law Roach. Luke may not have mentioned him in this vid because he has every time previously and their collaborative relationship’s so well known at this point, but that’s also just my speculation.
Luke mentioned Law Roach in the Bella Hadid segment of the video, just not with Zendaya.
@@cinephile1712 oh yeah, valid point... and I think i may have stepped away when he mentioned him during Bella's portion... the vid may have been Law-heavy, when it's supposed to be about 'the Look' overall...
Maybe because this video is about the best dresses of the year, and not the best styling. Anything mentioned about styling is a bonus, not an obligation.
She's been styled by Law for almost a decade now so he probably feels like it's a given!
yes i 100% loved gigis look
Regardless of when the Buffalo Soldiers were formed, there were units around as long as the West was wild. He wasn't too early.
And what about Tessa Thompson? She was serving looks this year 💅
Absolutely, it's so awesome to see the comments section bringing up their faves. This was definitely a good year for looks.
My Best Dressed for this year is probably Lady Gaga on BAFTA's she is really glowing and that night.. and her dress was FLAWLESS!
