Emily in Paris is back for another season, and this time there's a new costume designer, but it's Emily soi it's the same old thing. Her outfits are still gaudy, loud, and obnoxious, but I think this season there is a bit more of thought that's going into her outfits. And brands like Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co, Germanier, Mugler, Miu Miu, & lots of Schiaparelli! I mean not much, but somewhat. And of course, we'll break down the other cast members' outfits like Mindy, Camille, Gabriel, Sylvie, & of course Julian!

Enjoyed the hell out of the ad because you were having so much fun with it. Made me want to dust off my app
†Letâs all take this opportunity for finding this information from our amazing haute la mode couture!!! I would still be shopping for my clothes and speaking one line of French of you didnât exist! #RealNewsNews
@@Ali-yo6vl thatâs EXACTLY my point! Thank you!!!! You saved our world!!!
Can we talk about Gucciâs creative director being fired? Like why is no fashion channel talking about this what happened to Alessandro Michele??
@@Ali-yo6vl I also came to say this. The sponsored portion was very well executed. Classy but also personal.
it is very noticeable that camille gets worse outfits when the show doesn't want you to like her. she dressed so much better in season one before her villain era.
I was TAKEN ABACK when she showed up, I remember her as this hot, sunkissed queen with her white shirt what happened... nobody can overshadow our lord saviour/producer Lilly Collins đ
Yes! It's like they knew the storyline wasn't enough to make us hate Camille (because she is a queen and deserved so much better) so they resort to making her outfits bad
It makes me wonder whether there is a correlation between her outfits and her conflicted mindset throughout the season. Camille is very much torn between wanting to settle down with Gabriel (making everyone else happy) or breaking up with him and exploring new relationships with others (which would make her happier). Her outfits were so mis matched and kind of "off" which makes me think it was more than just a poor choice of picking items for her to wear.
@cielâ its called accurate portrayal.
@@briannarose8569this was never an issue before though. They made up that mindset for her to have because people liked her instead of Emily.
Something that is really bothering me is the fact that the characters never discuss their outfits, their fashion, designers etc. Only when it comes to marketing jobs, Emily seems interested in fashion. Itâs something that makes the characters so unnatural for me. They obviously shop a lot of designer but never give each other compliments or discuss their current purchases and favorite pieces? In contrast, that is something that Carrie did a lot in Sex & the City and thus, seemed a lot more realistic as someone who is fashion-obsessed.
Thatâs a really good observation, thatâs what made the old school sex in the city đ so good !
I feel like thereâs absolutely nothing realistic about this showâŠ)
YES!
or like...the only time Gabriel ever asks about her kooky outfit is a plot point? (wearing Alfies jacket) so unlikely!
Great observation. I agree.
Sylvie is the BEST and I want the whole show about her. I want more older, powerful women dressing THIS sexy and this bold.
Seriously though, if they made a spin off about her whole life, moving to Paris and building her career, I would absolutely watch it!
Did I write this because this is exactly how I feel đ I literally adore everything about Sylvie
@@rosie743 omg like younger Sylvie on the come up?? I would die
@@shirin9452 Yesss! Leaving Laurent, building her career, her romances throughout the years, joining Savoir, becoming a force in the industry. I would watch the hell out of that!
đđ»
Emily's style is the perfect example of "is this a slay or is she just skinny?"
LOLLLLLLL.
Yes
Just skinny is my answer lol. The outfits are horrible most of the time
Good thing skinny is free
Emily dresses like Edina Monsoon from Absolutely Fabulous- loud colors, pointless accessories, ridiculous hats, insane heels, illogical combinations. Eddie would cream herself over Emily's outfits. But we're supposed to find Edina stupid looking because she's middle aged and pudgey, and consider Emily to be daringly chic because she's 20 something and super skinny.
It costs thousands of dollars to look that cheap
and hours of effort :D
đ
damn! đ
Honestly, Harper from The Wizards of Waverly Place has a much more coherent sense of fashion. đ
And at least it makes sense for Harper to be so chaotically dressed⊠But this girlâŠ
Harper's also an aspiring fashion designer. Her outfits have a theme. She's not afraid to take risks with fashion even if everyone makes fun of her for it. Emily on the other hand how she dresses makes no sense for her character.
@@hannahthereseavila1565 Nothing about Emily says âfashion loverâ. She doesnât talk about fashion, we never see her shopping, she doesnât follow fashion news, for God sakeâs! She had to Google Pierre Cadault, if she were a fashion lover sheâd KNOW.
Gosh, I loved her - she was so adorable
Harper was an icon and I will not hear otherwise đ
I'm sure Luke has acquired more french skills through Babel than Emily has throughout the show. đđ€
Underrated commentđ
i'm honestly obsessed with emily's wardrobe. It's so unapologetically awful & people point this out to her all the time so she must know it's awful. but instead of changing her ways she thinks 'i WILL dress like a bat trying to blend in with a zebra herd and every man i meet will STILL fall in love with me.' kind of an iconic number of fucks given.
That's the only thing I like about her character
hahaha Love your take!!!
đđđ©
I agree! If she were my friend I'd be excited to see and celebrate what nutty combo she'd chosen that day. Endearingly awful!
@@Ginmabes I have a friend that has outrageously bad style, who's outfits I always look forward to seeing, lol.
I agree with your comment on how Mindy should 100% have a very expensive wardrobe. Even if itâs not couture 24/7, sheâs been a billionaire for most of her life, Mindy definitely should have a lot of good stuff to wear. Unless she had to sell it off to pay rent, which I donât think is the case
You don't think the girl singing in the streets for change, had to sell her stuff to make rent at one point or another?
I actually like quite a few of Emily's pieces, but they are styled so awfully! It would be a good touch if Emily finds out that she's color blind. That might explain some of the outfit choices. To be fair, I think most color blind people probably dress a lot better than Emily.
Yes there are soo many pieces that look good on their one but then⊠yeah they got violated
Most critiques agree that the individual pieces are not the problem, but how they are put together. The style also doesn't suit the character's personality. They'd make sense on a wacky personality like Patricia Field or Betsy Johnson, but Emily is not particularly whimsical.
đ colour blind đ«Ł
Emilyâs style is the definition of âmoney canât buy you tasteâ ⊠also⊠âMoney canât buy you good costume designâ apparently. Good that show must have an astronomic costume budget with all the designer items that are thrown on the characters for no apparent reasonâŠ
it doesn't even make sense for a junior marketing executive to be able to afford a wardrobe the cost of a single family house
Maybe they have some connections to the brands and just put in the clothes as ads, that's the only thing that would make sense lol
Her style is supposed to show her "crazy", happy, childish, not fitting to the standards character. Since the whole show is based on stereotypes, Emily's fashion is supposed to make her look as not fitting in the fashionable and classy France.
@@aleksandra_kosztyla but what part of her character is childish or happy or quirky? This woman is pretty much interested in work.
@@user-ox3wr6uz1q she is childish in her naive way of seeing the world, as in a romantic comedy, and she's always optimistic during all the series, even when no-one likes her at work etc :)
I think Emily just wakes up in the morning, covers herself in glue and rolls around in a charity clothing bin to get dressed in the morning ........ đ€đđ€Ł
Luxury charity clothing bin on top of that đ
ROFL đ
Nailed it.
đđđ
I don't think it's renewed because of the hate-watch. It's renewed because the whole show is a GIGANTIC AD to make Netflix some much needed money...
âđŒyes
absolutely and it's so over the top obvious
I mean hate watch or not, the show is a big hit numbers wise
Maybe Julian wardrobe was meant to be basic and forgotten since this is how he felt from everyone cuz of Emily overshadowing his ideas
Fr he deserves better... Emily Cooper sucks... Emily Cooper sucks and she brings shame to Paris
Makes sense, good point đ
"the bag should have a restraining order put out against the rest of the outfit" I love that=))
Yes, you put into words the feeling I couldn't explain! If Sylvie and Camille's looks are consistently chic and stylish, Emily's ridiculous outfits completely fit her character as the 'fish out of water' who's cosplaying fashion and French culture instead of truly learning and embracing it. When Sylvie and Camille (and possibly Mindy)'s looks are off, it seems like the show is either ignoring fashion or outright mocking it.
[Also "All that I could forgive but, Mindy... Pastels?" I screamed!]
Mindy's bdsm latex outfit was one of the seasons most bizarre fashion choices considering she wore it to an outdoor cinema.
"Vastly aggressive, abysmal, audibly gag, just put it back on (please and thank you), disturbing pointy toe boots, disgraceful, leftover drugstore Halloween turtleneck from the clearance section marked down to free, chalcone of disastrous styling" whoever wrote this one, damn that shit was fucking great paired with Luke's facial expressions and tones - I enjoyed this review very much.
The show is an easy target, but this had to be done. Loved it.
I hate that Netflix mostly just renews crappy shows. I donât watch it, but based on your roast I have spent lots of time in Paris and have never seen anyone dress this clownish there
Fashion brands and other brands like McDonald's are paying Netflix to get on the show, so it makes them enough money to keep renewing it.
I would love to see Mindy thrifting for designer pieces, they could do some awesome vintage pieces that lend to the the âtrendsâ of today. Showing she is still fashion and design conscious but on a budget.
But that would mean giving these characters a real personality and a story
thats just to much to ask from netflix đ«
Your fashion sense/knowledge is unparalleled and your sense of humour is cutting and unrivalled
Luuuuuuke ! You're spoiling us !
i like being spoiled!!
@@verakatleta it's a nice surprise !
"I want to fight it, but I'm tired" perfectly encapsulates my feelings about this show.
I wish someone made a video about how many of the outfits Emily wears can actually be styled decently and can look good. All of the outfits she wears, I'm constantly thinking this could actually be good if not for this, or that. It's frustrating to see good pieces drowning in the rest of the awful choices.
The designs by Pierre Cadault are all (except the ringarde collection) design by a real haute couture house named Stephane Rolland, his work is amazing :)
Luke: Hi, I'm Luke Maher from Haute Le Mode
Subtitles: Hi, I'm Lukmar from Hot Load
đïžđđïž
Iâll never watch this show because frankly life is short and I canât be wasting precious hours like that, but your commentary on it never ceases to kill. I adore, I bow down to you. Xo
âA sparkle set that looked like it came from Sheinâ â ïž đ€Ł I mean you said it perfectly!! Along with that Halloween shirt on clearance/ free đ€Ł
At this point I only want this show to be renewed for more seasons so that these outfit reviews can continue in perpetuity.
Emily in Paris being garbage? the series about an entitled american basic b going to teach all the fashion professionals in Paris how's done? yeah, we didn't expect that at all
Sheâs supposed to dress bad, thatâs her character. Sylvia dresses amazing
The issue I had the most difficultly with-personally- when I moved to France, was adjusting to their generally more modest daily attire. As an American, cut off short-shorts and a tank was my go to for hot summer days when temps often broke 90 degrees. But the French saw it as generally regard the flesh-bearing summer fashions of Americans to be slightly offensive and overly revealing unnecessarily. When, in California, Iâd throw on a pair of cut-offs and a tee to meet a friend for coffee, doing the same in France would gain scandalized looks from the women and inappropriate advances from men. Not a good way to go if you want to be accepted or respected by the localsâŠand as an immature 21 year old, it bothered me. In retrospect, I was self absorbed, culturally insensitive, and
naĂŻve to assume that just because France is a âwesternâ society, that it would be similar enough to American culture that I wouldnât have to make adjustment to my behavior and, of course, wardrobe.
Emily in Paris is a notoriously âAmericanizedâ view of France and an ignorant interpretation of their complex culture and intricate social structures, which, in reality, vary greatly from our own.
Not choosing remains a choice and this reflects on emely's clothes. The clothes reflect the character's personality, someone who doesn't know what she want, what to choose and who always tries to please everyone, of course in the end it doesn't work out as well as the combination of her clothes.
It's great to see Luke staying dedicated and consistent all the way. Best of luck to everyone.
Never going to watch the show but always love the fashion roasts that come out every season đđ
LikewiseâŠi could only survive the first episodeâŠ
I usually skip through the sponsored part but as a French and Luke n1 fan I had to hear your french accent đ love it !
Lily Collins IRL has exceptional taste in clotes. It's a shame Emily does not reflect that. They deliberately made the other characters look worse so that Emily would stop looking bad by comparison. It didn't work.
she really does, it must be killing her to be walking around paris wearing those awful fits
I have to thank you for doing another Emily in Paris episode. You must be violently sick every 15 min, so itâs truly impressive you made it through the whole season.
I follow an insta account about the outfits worn on the Nanny. Idk if youâre a fan, but I think reviewing looks/themes from the show would be a fun video! A series even maybe??
I would love a series!! I've been binging the show and I can't get enough of the outfits.
you're giving us SO much content and i'm HERE for it !!
Loved the Morticia moment
I died laughing
Me too
Emily bestie you can dress in a maximalist way but still have it looking good đđđđđđ
Fr
I would so enjoy a video where you create wardrobes and outfits for the Emily in Paris characters. It would be so fun to watch your knowledge on fashion and references in action :))
At this point, I think they're doing it on purpose. Styling the characters that way makes people talk about the show. And, quoting Oscar Wilde, that's an example of âThere is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.â
i absolutely love when you rip into these outfits. really reminds me of golden era project runway michael kors poetically roasting those garments. truly, thank you.
You probably won't see this but I'm going through a hard breakup right now and I love your channel and I'm really glad you suggested Babbel because I just bought a 3 month subscription with your discount to learn french and I feel like I really needed this. To distract myself and to do something for me that I've always wanted to try and gets me through the days (hopefully). thank you :)
Good job!! Love all the history references! I feel I learn so much from your well researched commentary!
âI want to fight it but Iâm tiredâ đđ
Isn't that just everyone always? I know that's my main vibe
Your commentary is everything!!! TY for the laughs
Luke, I donât think I can believe you about part 2 till I see it because I was really waiting for months after your part 1 for season 2. Looking forward to see your thoughts on the flight attendant outfits.
This showâs strategy seems to be âput her in a sequined rainbow H and M look and then throw a designer bag on itâ
Yes!đ„ł thank you for suffer through this for usđ Liked this immediatlyđ€
Thank you for gifting us this, Luke!
I think they should do a lot more vintage pieces. Most 20somethings cant afford off the runway stuff. And how about showcasing small companies with new designers. Get their looks out there. It is a missed opportunity. These big designers don't need anymore press. If they are looking bad on purpose, all designers had some off years, pull from those, make it super quirky!
I've never watched this show, but between the title and thumbnail, I was already laughing my ass off!!
Hi could you make a book shelf tour? What books about fashion are worth buying?
Its bothering me that some of these ppl are suposedly in their 20s/30s but they dress them like they're nearing retirement đ like, the clothes are colorful sure, but like a suit jacket? A tweed skirt? A pump? Professional environment ppl can also dress their age? Would love to see them step it up a bit, this is weirdly conservative looking đ the gingham set is kinda cute tho!
Look I hate this show with a passion, but oh my god no one deserves this kind of wardrobe
Iâm dying waiting for your Schiaparelli video I know youâre working on it?!!!??â€
Watched every word you had to say on Emily⊠I loved your hard work, even if I donât agree with everything. Keep it coming, weâll be here. Yes,I watched the season in two days.
Helll yeahhhh this notification made me smile up â€
IM SO IN LOVE WITH UR CHANNEL
15:40 Omg she literally looks like a walking French stereotype lol
Yess it's giving mime vibes
You should do a video on Harpers fashion from wizards of waverly place lol, her marker dress lives in my head rent free
Each season I prepare myself for the fashion disaster that the show is and yet it's somehow never enough
Oh man, I sooo love you!! I realize that this might not be the purpose of this video, but you made me laugh so hard that the hiccups almost suffocated me!! Thank you for making my day!
I live only for the annual "Emily in Paris" roast.
the amount of historical fashion knowledge dropped on me during this video is đ„đ„
Totally agree with you! Silvie's outfit is what keeps me watching this show. I really love her lightweight white trench coat. Gonna watch the part 2.
I really love your knowledge on the subject i like getting to make fun of bad outfits and learn fashion history in one video
I live to hear your take on these outfits. I laughed throughout . love it.
Oh yes, I needed that today. Merci!
Just discovered your channel and I love it! You need to be hired to style Emily in Paris!!
I think Sylvie was the star of the season- her fashion and character development were awesome. The rest of the female cast looked kooky and cheap.
Thank you for your comments. I always learn alot, listening to you. Great review. We need not alienate the French. Not a smart move.
âI want to fight it⊠but Iâm tiredâ cracks me up
âmarked down to freeâ I just pissed myself in public. LUKE STOPPPP HAHAHAHAHA
đđ just what I was waiting for!
Yesss idk how I missed this
Hats off to you for getting through this review. I canât even get through one episode of Emily in Paris. Always appreciate your thoughtful and poignant comments.
Been waiting for this!!
I feel like the creative directors have either 1. Never been to paris OR 2. made an effort to actively mock how AMERICANS THINK that parisians dress. This is absolutely horrendous
Sheâs dressed to look American who doesnât blend into the French aesthetic. Bright colors and funky mismatch is so anti French
I was so excited for this video
Using the McDonaldâs kiosk in foreign countries is so relatable
I appreciate the Morticia Addams reference. Top tier work as always đ
I actually like all the quirky stying. But I also appreciate your fashion references.
I agree with you on how horrible they dress Emily, plus I canât stand her sugary sweet character, she never stands up for herself. I do think Silvie is so chic most of the time, and I agree about and I forget her name, Emilyâs best friend should be wearing designer clothes from when she had money.
happy about Kimberly Drew shout out đ love her!
They had no reason doing my girl Camille this dirty istg, they want us to dislike her so badly but I wonât, honestly everyone is more likeable than Emily and everyoneâs fashion is better than hers, latter is just what it is if she wants to dress like that and is happy she shall
I am so happy there are parts to this
thank you! I feel much better now. from my perspective. half of SS2 was already eclectic and I didn't accept the ss3. visual nightmare of styling. greetings from vienna. i love your show
Paris is particullary hard with none perfect french. I'm not french, but I'm a french speaker (from Québec) and I was treat like I know nothing about my own langue ^^' so.... it's oki to be stress at Paris ^^' I think...
Your french accent is cute and really good ^^ Continue ^^
Been waiting for this video since the moment the season 3 trailer dropped
Yesss and ty!!
I'm sorry you had to suffer thru all this for our entertainment!! But I laughed so much with this video!! loved It!! â„
Iâll be waiting next season for Luke to roast the fashion đđ đŒ
I'm French and your accent is actually really good (and cute too)
I watched the season thinking how sad it makes me you won't be able to comment on it - thank you for the surprise
Can we talk about Gucciâs creative director being fired? Like why is no fashion channel talking about this what happened to Alessandro Michele??
