I actually love that Kate Blanchet rewore the dress. Normalize reusing!
Sorry but that dress wasn’t pretty enough to be reused
I agree with both of you, we should normalize reusing, but the dress is not really nice, I would have taken the "jacket" out of the picture.
@@Vayeya1 yeah idk if the jacket was sewed on the dress, but she should’ve at least styled it differently or something
reusing in real life is very common and very normal. I am definitely going to be a party pooper. but regardless of if these celebrities reuse a red carpet look, they have an excessive amount of clothes in real life. They get sent free things and the average person does not have that access to that many clothes. Walk in closets and what not. The purpose of them wearing clothes on the red carpet is to advertise a designer, and show new looks so I don't see the need to reuse these outfits so much unless it's vintage
@@happyproject2155 Im very aware of reusing in real life. I live here on earth with you :) however I also see the amount of consumerism in real life that stems from rarely seeing celebrities reuse because of said free things they always receive. I see the use for reusing on the red carpet, not every celebrity must be a slave to these brands and doing so can really promote sustainability and personal style. Kate Blanchet JUST did it so it’s not that far fetched of a statement.
Never before Margot Robbie has there been such a conventionally pretty actress who has been so poorly styled time and time again. If she has a stylist, they should be arrested by the fashion police and put on trial for crimes against humanity.
Honestly it was a bizarre thing to see someone who could potentially pull off so many looks be given such dreadful garments to wear and by none other than one of the top luxury brands in the world. Baffling.
Kirsten, tho I do not like her acting, it is undeniable she's beautiful and Chanel did her no justice.
@@juliawidmaier5334 maybe that’s exactly why they chose them for her.. like thinking she would make it look amazing just by proxy 🤧 that’s all I can imagine making logical sense
@@moniquewinbush1527 that’s probably it! Chanel clients who would buy those styles most are probably older women, so they put the pieces on Margot Robbie, who the clients may want to embody by buying the same pieces.
@@Jadorelainie I don't really find her beautiful
Margot finally wore a decent look. The evil is defeated ❤️🔥
What evil?
@@xoxjelloxox they meant Chanel hahaha
😂 praise be
😂😂😂😂
I think the color and shape really suits her but they really should’ve tailored it more
taylor russell has so much range yet all of her looks are so cohesive it’s crazy I love her😭
Who
taylor russel enjoyers we've been eating good lately
@@Jezabella2002 Taylor mf Russell
@@Jezabella2002 I think she’s the lead actress in Bones and All. A movie that premiered recently
Not a huge fan of Margot’s outfit, but damn did that green look STUNNING on her!
Margo PLEASE we are all rooting for you (even though we should have given up a while ago). Chanel is lucky she's so beautiful inside and out, she carried what little those clothes had to offer, worst experience of all our lives
Love that Cate Blanchett is rewearing something she’s already worn & is touting sustainability. Though there have been better looks she’s worn before 👀
I thought they don't own the looks that it's all borrowed?
@@nancykerrigan they don't unless the clothes were custom made for them. In which it's theirs to keep. But most of the time the clothes are leant to the celebrities for the red carpet. What if the dress was already in her closet? Or what if she wore that dress in a past red carpet event? And she decided to borrow it again?
What the people need to know is if Margot Robbie parted ways with her _stylist._ Because if not, just because Chanel is out of the picture, problems may persist. How someone could be so incompetent at their job as to continually screw up or underwhelm dressing someone this conventionally gorgeous amazes me.
that's a great point, actually
her stylist also styles selena gomez 🥲
The celebrities are at a point in their fashion journeys where they look like their parents dressed them up for school and they are just showing up for credit
Michelle Yeoh’s Town and Country Magazine issue still gives me chills. She carries a look effortlessly. An ICON ❤
Yesss that was one of the best editorial spreads I had seen in a hot minute!
Who
She was the bees knees!
A true Legend. We Stan.
That shade of green of Margot's dress made my heart skip-a-beat. 💚 Taylor looks like Rosie Perez...I can't believe you're just discovering the Governor's Awards...maybe you can mine their archives for a review.
That would be fun.
Who's Rosie Perez
Taylor was the best dressed as far as Im concerned. She is the one I am the most excited to see on the red carpet. Hits after hits !!!
First time I’ve ever commented on a you tube star! I am probably not your typical fan… if my socks and sweat shirt match I think I am in style! But I really enjoy your videos I think your funny and very knowledgeable about your art. I’ve learned so much about fabrics and historical fashion. Love it!
Ana de Armas is giving Top Shop
😂 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂 I was thinking that
Taylor Russell is rocking that Art Deco reference Schiaparelli dress and Headwear. Her pose was impeccable. She is my #1.
I find a lot of red carpet looks are ruined by hair and accessories, or lack thereof. Idk if it’s because the flash photography distorts metal? So many looks could have used some jewelry and a hairstyle that pulls together the look and isn’t just beachy waves behind the shoulders
Agreed!!
The ladies, and of course the often disappointing men, really aren’t giving DRAMA, INTRIGUE, CREATIVITY when it comes to hair or accessorizing and I’m just hoping we’ll see a Renaissance soon now that (unfortunately) the 00s are back in style and accessorizing/hair styling was a significant part of this period aesthetically
Love that you make me want to look up designers, I originally found your channel because I wanted to dig into fashion and discover my style. And every time I watch your channel your commentary makes me look up designers and fall in love with the details of fashion that I'd never thought to look at. Thank you for the edutainment! 😍
jessica chastain and jennifer lawrences dresses are magical, not super unique but the patterns are ethereal.
Margot Robbie LOOKED phenomenal.. AND THAT GREEN 💚🍏 WAS A BEAUTIFUL COLOR ON HER SKIN TONE.. PERFECT FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR
why is "LOOKED" in all caps? lol
Praise God he put you on Earth and You on CZcams..finally someone HONEST!!!! Great eye.
margot said I'M FREEEEEE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE
They really need backstage steamers for folks right before they hit the carpet because the wrinkles really take away from the beautiful garments and the materials
Michelle Yeoh was my favorite look💛
Who
I am going to squint and imagine that the silver double band is matte black and say that Giambattista Valli look worn by Janelle Monaé is my favorite with a very close second being the Bottega Veneta look worn by Michelle Yeoh.
I love the dress on Viola Davis. The waist fit so well without a belt. The colors are so vibrant. It made me smile.
The max mara look is gorgeous but more jewelry would have made the look so much better
Not Bert and Ernie couture 🤣🤣🤣 How I will describe my fashion style from now on... Also Taylor Russell is doing these red carpets right. Before the press tour I never knew of her but now because of all her outfits, she's the talk of the fashion town. Thumps up in my book.
Who's Taylor Russell
@@Jezabella2002 Why you trolling? Did you even watch the video???
Love your extreme honesty here Luke- I’m chuckling and learning from you at the same time- awesome ❣️
The emerald colour on Margot is lovely but totally agree with you otherwise. Not great. The construction on Jessica Chastain's dress is beyond immaculate. I so appreciate the craftsmanship and very striking on her. Really enjoyed the understated and pretty simplicity of Jennifer Lawrence's dress. And, Austin Butler really let his handsome do the talking in that simple tailored suit. Loved the overall super cool vibe. Gabrielle looked perfect. So elegant and I adore the Prada lace.
My husband said Jennifer Connelly looks like a Jedi, and I can’t unsee it 😅
".... But like, we're good. Thanks." I love this man!! 😂😂☠️☠️
I love Michelle Yoeh. This yellow is wonderful. She wore the best look! Gabrielle Union is fabulous in that the fit is perfect, the look wearable, and the black dress is lovely, I usually think her clothing choices don’t match the event. The Oliva Wilde looks good until the bodice meeting. It is uneven, isn’t elegant.
Who's Michelle Yoeh
‼️ For Olivia Wilde I HATED that dress. It looks like a 2010 prom dress to me LMAO that could just be my uncultured eyes but without the veil that the dress had on the runway it just doesn't look good. Sans veil that dress just screams junior prom department store.
Ou so excited you uploaded!! Currently shredding a stack of paper and this will keep me busy 😌😊
Loved that Erdem collection! It was based on textile conservation at the V&A and I can totally tell as a conservator- no one does costume dressing like the V&A (I mean Lara Flecker literally wrote the book on it). Would have loved the see the veil too.
your titles kill me 😂😂😂😂
Michelle Yeoh... I mean yo... That was MADE for her. She looks amazing! Definitely my favourite look out of all of them.
Jennifer Conelly white dress features what are called "paniers" they were often worn under in a petticoat form under french aristocratic fashion in the Louie 14th period. Love your work Luke 💖💝💖
Ah okay that would explain the Placement🤔 because I was wondering if it would have been more flattering If those "lobster tails" were located a little higher 🤔
love your keke palmer analysis
Viola Davis is striking! 💥
Love your commentary and the information you share about the designers. I especially enjoy your facial expressions!! Don’t ever ruin it with Botox, PLEASE!! Thanks for great content!
Like two of the elsa bracelets on one wrist or one on each with a necklace or earrings would have topped it off for me
Viola was the star, beautiful woman and beautiful dress
I'm not a big fashion person, but I loved this video 😍 Subbed!
Anyone wanna discuss what would you have done to make that Keke Palmer skirt cohesive and gorgeous? Maybe continue those gorgeous ruffles all the way down to the floor?
Maybe make it mermaid? To kinda resemble the ruffle shape of the top, idk. The skirt as it is does nothing for her body and that's the problem I think, it makes her look shorter sort of..
Maybe make it a pant? Definitely color match or change the color regardless.
Shorter peplum for proportioning on her body, definitely tapered skirt with mermaid bottom but NO horizontal stitch lines in order to ‘add’ a fishtail. Perhaps a stretchy fabric flaring from the calfs or panelling with a stiffer fabric to create a Morticia Addams finish.
I think a straight skirt down, same material AND COLOR…so the Godet on the waist is the only texture and elongates her
Viola Davis is Queen of this carpet! Perfection. Stunning. Everything good in this world. 💋
Margot's problem wasn't the contract with Chanel, it's her stylist.
Chanel's boxy and vintage style doesn't fit Margot. It's the wrong brand to have an contract with. Margot looks better in colors and fitted clothes.
When one has shoulders like Florence Pugh one should seek a designer/stylist who knows not only how to work with them, but also how to charm the human they belong to into taking a damn risk. She played it "safe " and what resulted was mesomorph in milktoast.
Guys Margot robbie is literally my teacher’s childhood best friend! They used to go to the same high school together down in the Gold Coast and she comes over for Christmas every year
So on point as usual. I thought before you said it: don’t like the silver bag in the CH Rogers dress 😅. It should have been yellow or red in a funny shape as in the Dalì mouth sofa maybe.
austin butler looks so hot every time he wears his wide legged suit trousers and shirts opened almost all the way down he delivers. its hotness in simplicity. this saint laurent one is extra fire 🔥
comparisons can be messy... But the Erdem dress that Olivia wore gave me a STRONG impression of Maria Grazia´s Dior
Loved Olivia's look
Kiki Palmer's look would've been so cool if the bottom half was structured trousers in the same fabric as the top, with gaudets making a flare effect at the bottom.
I think even without gaudets at the bottom, flared pants in the same color and fabric 😍
Because I'm not sure If added gaudets would be Overkill 🤔
It's giving Bar Mitzvah! Don't kill me with that frame of reference on Ms. Sink!
Honestly, I thought she looked adorable. But I guess we weren't supposed to go for adorable?
@@nancykerrigan I love Sadie Sink, honestly, and I dont think anybody is saying she looked bad. I just think shes more interesting than that dress would lead you to believe.
LOVED Gabrielle Union's look!
I think a great video you may consider creating. Would be talking about certain looks per-usual and then using an iPad(or any tablet or phone really) and a digital model of the design where you could illustrate and visually explain what you would personally change about the look to balance it and make it more cohesive.
I absolutely love your content already though and really appreciate your incredibly well thought out constructive criticism and commentary!
"Well excuse the fuck outta me!" lol
Hear me out: JLaw’s dress BUT
- the skirt portion was more ballgown-esque with lots of layers(each containing that gorge embroidery)
- a slightly more structured bodice and sheer sleeves (same color as the embroidery) with ruching at the cuffs
- idk if there should be a higher neckline with a bit of ruching to tie it in but
Wouldn’t it have slayed a bit harder? With her hair in the photo, it would’ve tied in the christian dior aesthetic with a bit of hollywood glamour
You should have seen my mother's face once when she showed me a random Chanel look from a random Chanel girl (l believe it was Penelope since I'm Spanish) and I literally yelled "THEY ALWAYS GIVE HER THE UGLIEST DRESS OF THE COLLECTION" you would have been proud of me for my despise of ANY of the Chanel looks that are given to the Chanel contract ladies.
I love Danai's look. Not denying it's a little blah but it's exactly what I'd want to wear on a red carpet. Looks elegant and comfortable.
I dont know how brand deals work, but if I were a celebrity, aint no way I'd be wearing something I dont personally like. Hell naw.
I think it's all about the price
The Angela Bassett dress: An ugly dress is an ugly dress. What is forgotten here is whether or not the dress flatters the wearer. In this case it does not. There are fit issues and shape issues. Cate Blanchett: Too much going on. A hot mess. No cohesion in this design, which is a shame because Cate Blanchett can wear elegant clothes. Emma Corrin: At least she looks as if she is comfortable. Jennifer Connelly: Even though the puffs are a historical reference, they disrupt the overall lines of a relatively simple dress. If the puffs were flat panels, this dress would be much more flattering. Agree on Keke Palmer. Michelle Yeoh: You are right Luke. The bodice is beautiful and well-fitted. Olivia Wilde looks great.
For Kiki Palmer, I think the problem with the peplum is not so much it's length, but the fact it starts just a smidge too high. It's sitting a little above the natural waist, where it should be either at or a little below. The waist line is throwing the proportions off. 100% agree on the skirt, particularly the color. They should've either color matched, or changed the color dramatically enough to be a choice, like hot pink, or something.
Just a heads up --someone is impersonating Luke in the comments, replying to other people saying that they've won a prize... don't be fooled!
Great video as always Luke :))
I have received similar replies to my comments on other channels. They should be reported. Thanks for notifying.
UPSETTI SPAGHETTI
I think the lobster tails look like croissant lol!
"Bert and Ernie couture" 🤣
ok i'm obsessed with "floomf"
Love the red dress ...
As your loyal viewer, I would kindly ask you to include the brand of each look on the whole time, because I sometimes lookaway and I didnt catch the brand - also could you include the designer as well - it would be verrrry informative. If you have an editor perhaps, could you include videos of the looks, so we can see the movement and feel of the fabrics more. THANKYOU
“It makes me upset-y spaghetti.” 😂
Love Michelle Yeoh’s look💛
Are you going to adress the Balenciaga scandal?
Probably not since that’s more so gossip and he critiques outfits
@@cnomi8447 It's not gossip. It's something that would go down in fashion history as one of the the, if not THE, biggest campaign scandals. He talked about many controversial moments in fashion history, so why didn't he speak about this?!
I can’t wait to use upsetty spaghetti at the first possible chance I get…. Love u lol
The Jessica Chastain dress makes me think of henna designs.
When saw Michelle Yeoh’s look, I couldn’t help but think of Big Bird 😂😭
@HauteLeMode please do a video about what is going on with balenciaga!
Latin Grammys please. I think you'll find a lot to comment on.... 👀
“Blah blah black sheep” 😂
I like pugh, but the sheer panel on that dress is shower-curtain all the way down. The dots, the blur and the grid.
Did you ever do a review of Making the Cut?
Call me basic but I'd kill for Carey Mulligan's wardrobe. And I love that she keeps wearing black.
Cate in Lee is heaven. Again🖤
I agree that the Erdem look is lovely! Romantic, but with a touch of goth/punk because of the fishnetty bits and deconstruction. However, I disagree that Olivia Wilde could have worn the veil from the runway look. I think it would have looked too (Halloween) costumey.
Weird runway. Some people understood the assignment, others are very underdressed but still look good because they're gorgeous and a few look like a thrift flip (Cate Blanchett 3 clothing items shoved into one) or unconventional materials design challenge outfits 🤪 (Angela Bassett [🙌] has a skirt that looks like it's made out of that lambskin rug at Costco and Florence Pugh's dress looks like it's made out of shower curtain 😬).
Keke Palmer doesn't have the right proportions for that design, which looks marvelous on the very tall and slim model.
It seems as if art is dead and no celebrity wants to show that they have good taste. The Keke Palmes dress was ghastly.
Please cover the Latin Grammys. Would love to see your history bits come back too. Maybe a deep dive into Pucci?
I'd love to hear about some fashion history!
so eloquent
I think KeKe's dress is like that because she is pregnant and was trying to hide it at that point.
I need to see a reaction of Queen Michelle Yeoh watching this video !!
‘I hate that skirt’ 🤣😂
Michelle Yeoh & Viola Davis🔥
Hi! Can anyone tell me another term for 'wear it once' culture?
Waiting for your reaction to Kiko Mizuhara’s 7 days 7 looks!
I love Viola Davis' dress 😍
Keke Palmer could have saved it easily if they gave her a nice black skirt
Think the scapparelli approach: a standout piece and the rest in well tailored black
Jennifer Connolly is like Moiraine’s dress in the show wheel of time. :)
TAYLOR RUSSELL IS WONDERFUL 🤩😍🥰
I know some people hate Olivia Wilde. But I think she's a pretty woman and dresses up really well. good jo her team.
I think hate against her is so unfair. Her dressing game is really good and she doesn't get enough credit for it.
@@navyanav totally agree.
I love how he does a bunch of research beforehand to make sure he knows what every piece is and then when he makes the video he pretends like he’s pulling all that info out of his memory vault
