2024 MET GALA FASHION ROAST (disappointed is an understatement)

- The 2024 Met Gala theme was all about "The Garden of Time", with celebrities and brands meant to interpret the short story by J.G. Ballard on the red carpet, but as per usual, for most that was too big of an ask. Some celebrities certainly understood, and some really reached into the "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. But overall, a fashion flop once again.

the met gala should make a rule that if you cant justify how your outfit is on theme then you will not be allowed back the next year
YESS! If there’s some way they can submit the outfits to Anna wintours company & maybe they judge them for the right requirements that would work
@@1870Coppelia YESS, YESS! or at least the designers should submit their sketches beforehand
... I mean Anna wintour isn't always on theme either.... So I don't know how submitting anything to her would change much.
It’s really not supposed to be a costume party. Lol. Like it’s a fundraiser. The tables are like a quarter million dollars.
The celebs we see wearing the big themed outfits are guests of designers usually.
@@nataliaalfonso2662 right! Like I think it's fine to fit the theme by adding something small to your outfit if you're not a huge fashion person. It's not a costume party... Except for maybe that one year where the theme was camp
Florals. For spring? Groundbreaking.
I understand that people would probably see garden and think flowers, but the theme is Sleeping Beauties(for the exhibition): Garden of Time(for the gala) (Edit). Most people just threw on flowers and called it a day.
That's all.
Watched that movie again yesterday. 😂
I thought the same when I saw the theme. 😂😂
That was the whole point
@@Sashaiordanov but not like this 😬
It's a theme not the spring runway
"...there is no garden, there is no time, it's just a waste of time" I can't 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
A lot of black, end of time?
😂😂😂
Cardi B, with her enormous black dress, represents the dark abyss that is narrated in the garden of time, which is a novel that inspired the Met Gala
Apparently, nobody has read the book, the garden of time. It has nothing to do with sleeping beauty or any other princess. It’s a story about how people who are rich don’t understand or sympathize with people who are poor and struggling.
The short story is not a fairytale: it is about rich people hiding in a paradise garden from a poor angry mob, while they wait they use up the whole paradise spinning time backwards for the mob (buying themselves time for their opulence). When the mob arrives the rich all died of old age and the paradise is exploited and barren…
Thanks for clarifying that! It's interesting how netizen reaction is now also drawing a connection to hungers games contrasting the Met opulence against the backdrop of what's happening in Gaza.
Ironically, outside Met Gala there's Palestinian protesters
Hilarious that no one read the short story,
This is why ladies and gentlemen fashion is dying, because everything is now superficial
@alpha-andromeda i agree with you a billion percent
Bravo. And thats how the story goes exactly😂
Moth eaten, discoloured, sun or water damaged, sweat stained, frayed, unfinished or unfurling seams, upcycled and patched over multiple generations, brittleness as moisture decreases... a treasure trove of ideas for anyone who knows about conservation. Tissue paper stuffing and shaping things out for storage... Where are all the creative people!?
pop off alexandra!!!
EXACTLY THIS
Charli XCX's gown of different white t shirts upcycled was honestly one of my favs
Where is Tim Burton when you need him?
this!!! 🎯
I’m so surprised no one wore like long grass, outfits literally made of plants. Like people have made woven items out of literal gardens for a verrry long time. Justice for straw hats.
That could have been so charming and elevated the garden concept! But noooooo
@@isabelmcgaugh711 even big woven bustles and corsets or like garden nymph idk anythingggg really
And it would make sense for both the theme of the exposition AND the red carpet. As something woven from plants like that would be delicate and difficult to replicate or ever be worn again
With some of it dying to represent time.
YEAH. where are the wicker baskets, where's the woven grass, moss details.. you can find anything in a garden, why not do something interesting.
Jennie’s fans thinking she’s on theme cause she wore blue like babes please be serious, the exhibition is NOT the same as the red carpet theme, y’all are just making excuses. and even if she was on theme, it’s still boring. get over it omg
The theme were sand, ocean, flowers. SHE literally wore ocean blue. Also her outfit isn't boring at all. It's really pretty.
@@xunvenile the theme was garden of time. the EXHIBITION was what you’re saying. and everyone except blinks agrees her outfit is boring as hell and she shouldn’t attend anymore. stop being in denial
@@xunvenileif her fans are the only ones saying her outfit is on theme , it means something is wrong because she ISNT ON THEME

How weird
That dress is indeed boring lol

Made no connection to the thème but the dress was beautiful.
Where was uma thurman in one of my favs make ups and outfit ... as poison ivy ?
Tyla won I'm sorry. Not only did she LITERALLY serve hourglass in multiple ways... but THAT dress WILL disintegrate over time. It is NOT timeless, that IS the theme in a effin nutshell like...also rocks and stones get worn away over time and turn into sand... it's giving from every angle! even the slight crinkle in the material choice sits perfectly to look like she's a sand castle that's about to fall apart... it's everything like... chills!!!
they could have had a jewel embedded in the hem of the dress just peaking out like a lost civilization ...how cool that dress/theme is
Listening to Olivier Rousteing talking about it was soooo interesting
Yeah she was incredible
same!!!!!
No literally I loved her bag as well
If Cardi B's dress was green and full of 3D embroidery of flowers and insects, she would had turned into a garden in that huge dress, a missed opportunity
Her dress is literally meant to be a black rose turned over.
@@noalail986 So it's even worse that I thought it was.
@@noalail986exactlyyyy. She posted a black rose before she went. N she said it in an interview “the black rose tht came from the concrete” a reference to herself coming from the Bronx and a reference to the garden wit the rose

@@noalail986but the fact that we didn't get the concept on second look means the creator failed.
The fact that there wasn’t an outfit inspired by crumbling and mossy garden statues that paid tribute to something like the 1997 spring/summer Alexander McQueen collection with all the Grecian elements is CRAZY to me
Lana did pretty good on that front tho
New rule: If you ignore the theme, you don't get an invite for the next 5 years.
The designers are the one that pick the outfits, so do you mean the designers or the celeb that gets banned or both?
@@PennyPastor-yk1cg lets be honest, the wearer, is the one who's always blame by the public. So if the wearer didnt follow the theme and/or didnt voice his/her opinion to the designer that his/her outfit is not on theme, people will drag them down. And if they were drag down, Vogue will notice that and they dont want to be drag down too, so they remove the wearer instead. Harsh reality
I wish !
Chris Hemsworth looked like a perfect beach wedding guest.
Something tells me he has a closet full of that exact same suit in multiple colors 😅
😂
😂😂
Ken!
I will never complain about what Chris Hemsworth is wearing. Call me old fashioned…but it’s sexy to see a man in a properly tailored suit and wearing it effortlessly.
jennie and her team treat every met gala like it's just a normal red carpet and i'm frankly sick of pretending she's a fashion icon. if she were, she'd have been on theme.
fashion icon just for koreans .... tbh koreans rely a lot on their pretty faces and skinny bodies and never give attention to fashion , always plays safe with their choices , so disappointing ... should learn a thing or two from their other fellow asian countries like china and india
she's not
She was on theme, her dress was styled after the lake waters found in the landscape of the estate. It wasn't particularly EXCITING, but it was on theme
@@thisnightsrevels9605I don’t think people like the execution too though
So you are saying that she is not a fashion icon while being ignorant about the theme😂 The Garden of Time has three subthemes: Land, Sea, and Sky. Jennie had that blue dress styled like a wave meaning water, she had pearls on her waist, earrings like some shells, hair made to look like some flower, even her makeup was made to fit in the picture, that beautiful silver it gives ocean vibe. She was definitely on theme. She said it herself, she had multiple choices, she is just more simple and it's not a bad thing, classy and simple, that it's Jennie and many people like her for that, you don't have to pretend shit if you don't feel it.
Every year I get pissed off 😡 that the same people get all the publicity out of this over and over again while other worthy fits are ignored.
Give us an example, please! :))

LOL. That's good.
hahahahaha . THIS
That’s what I thought when I heard about the theme
Ur a genius
Ikr!? Urgh
To be honest I was expecting someone to pull iconic pieces from the archives according to the theme of the exhibition… instead we got florals
I mean some people did. I did expect floral but some outfits were just bad and not at all good for themee
im pretty sure the iconic pieces from archives according to the theme are the ones you're gonna look at at the exhibition
That would be impossible since the theme is literally about fashion preservation for outfits that are too delicate to wear.
It could have been outfits that resemble items (like Anna did). For example, the theme seems like a response to Kim Kardashian wearing the Marilyn dress previously, which she shouldn’t have, when she could have worn a reference for the entire event.
@@moondai97 I'm not gonna look at anything for the exhibition because I'm not invited. The red carpet should fit the theme, simple as that

I love how on the nose it was actually.
I'm glad you guys liked it. I just wish it had been incorporated more into the look. It was like they dressed him and someone went "oh wait, the theme!" and printed out a clock and stuck it on the briefcase
@dannisherman5008 I feel you. He looked so good though, I mean in comparison to so many of the men? He killed imo but I get the wanting for more creative use of theme sure. I love the basic & absurdity of it all personally. That's a contrast rarely celebrated. It's comedic in a way and I dig that

Hilarious
I thought he was referencing David Cassidy. Should have been velvet. Bwa ha ha ha.
But he wasn’t dressing for a theme but because he loves his jacket.
I watched a lot of other influencers comment on the met gala and everyone was liking the dresses while I am still wondering where the theme is? Like there was so much potential and only a few people actually caught the theme. Like where were the florals? Where were the clocks? Where was life and death? Where were the garden tools?
No one reads anymore 😢
Garden tools 🤣🤣🤣Dungarees and a spade 😂
Seems no one got the theme. Very few screamed " garden"
Half wore black. Flowers and butterflies would be so easy to work with.
A correction: Mata Hari is not an Indian dance. It’s the stage name of Margaretha Geertruida MacLeod (née Zelle; 7 August 1876 - 15 October 1917). She was a Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan who was convicted of being a spy for Germany during World War I. She was executed by firing squad in France.
Tyla’s outfit also represents the Sandman folklore. A man who sprinkles magical sand on you to make you sleep and have wonderful dreams. Thats the reawakening sleeping beauty part of it for me. She hit the nail on the head for all aspects of the theme.
Yes and unfortunately I think technically Pataki and Hemsworth were also representing sand which is a theme in The Garden of Time as well but it was really underwhelming on them tbf
People hyping up Tyla who had dirt poured over her naked body. That's not special. Zendaya won. She understands fashion completely..
@@ctruth6185Zendaya looked like she was in a costume and it didn’t even look that good. Tyla’s was cleverer and suited her better.

@@PennyPastor-yk1cg maybe you're right, but it worked for her beyond perfection and it was her first Met Gala and she slayed
Chloe Sevigny’s dress had hair wrapped into floral motifs because it was a mourning custom of Victorians to remember their dead: she was even more wrapped in floral-dress-death-decay than you thought! Stunning.

I love the way you explain everything. So many people are just like oh she looks so pretty oh this is ugly but you dig into the history and the references and the past collections. I’m not someone who knows anything about fashion and I actually learned a lot and feel like I understand a lot better what these designers were trying to achieve
As always you translated couture into layman's terms, explaining the cultural and historical significance. I live for your critiques of each event like this. It made my evening and I'll be ruminating over these for the weekend.
Definitely. Love that original antler dress( not the new one) widow's of Culloden, what a lovely and tragic name. Although I know what a Culloden widow is if you asked me I would've said yellow jackets tv series. Learn so many things in this video
The fact that Tyla’s dress also deteriorated over time (ripping in the back) was just so brilliant
Just amazing that she was one of the best. Best fit, on theme, looks, etc. Most of the others very boring and repetitive
Exactly 💯 That’s what I was thinking scrolling through the pics🕵️♀️ Olivier is a mastermind 🧠 his brain is next level #gagged 😮 time with the dress deterioration throughout the night is on theme 🕰️
Apparently it was a one wear dress
No, it’s just a poorly constructed dress. Especially going by the fact that she could barely walk on it and had to literally be lifted up.
@@Aki-hb1jy no it's not, it's literally designed to be biodegradable.
I knew celebs were basic, but I was still hoping someone would do an outfit based on flora/fauna that were lost to time. As in endangered/extinct species. That would play into the conservation aspect of sleeping beauties & garden of time both.
GENIUS.
I'm so with you! There's a NZ photographer, Fiona Pardington, that deals with this as a discussion on colonisation. I really wanted someone to bring that kind of energy to the gala
i think it's safe to say us regular people with the smallest knowledge and desire for fashion would've served way better and on a budget. One day I'd love to see a runway like "fashion but on a salaryman budget" and gag most house brands

"She's wearing custom GAP by Zac Posen" is something I never thought I could ever hear about a serious red carpet event

"Why did they pick Chris Hemsworth?? I don't know maybe he's nice to look at... in real life" Luke 💀
He’s a fitness influencer, a hunky actor, but hardly a fashion icon. He looks good in suits, which is easy if you’re a good looking guy, nothing more.
This is why we love Luke, he keeps it so real😂
Luke, I think you look great today😁
Maybe Anne's garden is blooming (if you know you know) and that's why Chris was picked
😆I think Chris was actually wondering why also!
No one paid attention to the actual story the theme is based on. The story is about two rich aristocrats not being able to turn back time using magic flowers to stop a revolution. In the end they turn to stone as they are invaded by the masses. Arianna was on theme if she was going for stone statue. Everyone not wearing tattered garments flopped.
I just found your channel and I'm so glad I did! Going to binge watch at work.
Tyla and Balmain need even more recognition because at the end of the gala Olivier himself cut the dress into a mini skirt so that Tyla could walk lol so fucking epic
Incredible concept and she looked fire in it . Best dress of the night
And, like the theme, it's a garment that will never be worn again because it's also lost to time.
Still can’t believe this was Tyla’s first Met and she got the concept better than most.
It annoys me that no one used Cherry blossoms as the motif because they only bloom for a couple weeks of the year before withering away and they’re a perfect symbol of the fleeting nature of life and natural materials.
Every year people collect bloomed cherry blossoms to preserve them in some way to be used during the cherry blossom season of the next year but even then it never has that long of a shelf life.
There are many blossoms that bloom for just a day that they could’ve done. So little creativity here.
Karli Kloss wore Cherry Blososm motif dress
Agreed. I'm also surprised no one used forget me nots. They are beautiful flowers and have a reference to time in the name.

As a blackpink fan I’m thrilled you ate Jennie up. I love those girls and I think their casual style is amazing but they are consistently given underwhelming and lazy looks by their stylists and designers. If one more member shows up to the met gala in a mini dress I’m going to lose it
Like 😭 enough with the mini and black dress. I know they can do better, I need them to bring back the spirit of the clothes from the tour and that event with the king, put it together and do something interesting
It’s honestly so weird that they keep underperforming, not even just on the stage but at the MET?! Maybe if they do go all out or expose too much skin they’ll get backlash in korea?
Jisoo and Lisa are left😭damm istg if they also dress like Jennie and rosie I'm over KIDDING
Listen I knew Rosé would disappoint at the Met Gala because of her outfits at fashion shows. My expectations were low for her, but Jennie is a different story. Jennie is so disappointing because she's labeled as a fashion girl yet all her looks are safe, basic, and boring. Lisa is the only one I have hope for since she has a stylist that isn’t Korean and she’s already started to dress better at events. And Jisoo does keep it safe as well but at least she tries other colors

Thank you for your comments and references to the theme and time. Loved it. You are amazing
Your commentary and knowledge of fashion history is excellent. This is the most interesting coverage of the Met Gala I have watched.
Lana Del Ray's thorn costume is a spot on Sleeping Beauty reference (not dead winter foliage awaiting reawakening spring).
In the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty lay in a tower for 100 years. During that time thorny bushes climbed up the tower, grew through her window and encircled the bed where she slept. I've seen illustrations of this scene in old Brothers Grimm story books.
And it honestly helps to my subjective perception just picturing her as role model Sleeping Beauty from the fairytale hehe. Lana was one of VERY few people for me who had that balance between getting the theme, standing out, but not feeling out of place AND LOOKING GOOD. It can be done.
This look made me remember Oscar Wilde's tale 'The Nightingale and the Rose'. Of a nightingale singin all night with a thorn pircing his heart to death to produce a red rose in winter.
Sorry for my english. It's not my first lenguage 😅
Interesting. I would not have gotten that reference, nor the reference to the stag head with lace from a previous runway look. I love Lana and think her incredibly gorgeous, but I thought this looked like a caterpillar nest in a dead tree. Thanks for educating me.
Lana Del Slay
It was based off the J.G Ballard short story for the themev
"I don't know, babe. Try. It's not that hard"
that quote's gonna live in my head
😂
The Met should build a freaking RAMP ..... they have those insurmountable stairs that no one can climb unassisted.
excellent video! I learned so much. I'm going to watch you from now on for every red carpet.
I've been sewing garments for 60 years and can be certain of one thing, Kylie J's front lines are because the dress did not fit, it was too tight in the hips. That 'bunching" was not due to fabric creasing from sitting, it's because the fabric is pulling upwards,. I imagine this put great strain on the seams and may have even caused some damage. That dress was made for a model to wear once, a model who is tall and very, very thin all over. Not meant for an hourglass shaped person. Hey....maybe that fit the theme after all! Maybe the dress split open at the seams by the end of the night so the passage of time showed in the damage to the dress!
HAH! I like your positivity!
My Gramma is a seamstress and I KNEW THAT. Lol plus ik these woman don't sit in their dresses
I think Kylie and Kim are trying to thin out . Only for the beauty standard again
Yup! I learned this the hard way when I graduated. I wore a fitted white dress that I had been saving, and I soon realized that it was too tonight (although it fit,it kept bunching). Sad day lol
So neat that you’ve been sewing for 60 years! I love sewing. Worked in a costume shop for three years but it was hard living on minimum wage so I quit to become a server. But still fun
Also, why did Cardi choose a JET BLACK dress, with so much tulle? That color made the details in the tulle very hard to capture in photos, so it looks very flat, plus jet black is perhaps the least 'garden' color ever. I don't even think you can say it's the color of 'decay' compared to like a dark brown, natural materials never really turn solid jet black when they rot.
Right?! At least if it was green it would tie into grass/garden and would match the carpet
Death?
@@cherylb6755 That only works with the theme if you also incorporate the "life" part, aka plants etc.
Maybe because jet black is the color of Death. The short story ends with the inevitable death of the people who own the garden.
@@Lucia-te1wp But people literally die at the end of the story. I think that a big imposing black dress as if you can't escape it, fits the theme.
SUCH a missed opportunity to sing, “Don’t show up…don’t come out” when you were critiquing Dua Lipa 😭
Lol!!!
I love your content, i usually end up checking the ref points you mention and house is now filled with ref books 😂
For bad bunny, i think its perfectly on theme with the garden of time. This is not exposed stitching, its a process called basting, where you use a contrasting weak thread to momentarily keep 2 layers in place while you saw them with your machine. Its also used when you cant make temporary marks with chalk (see the red marks beneath his throat). Then, when the piece is finished, you take the basting threads out. The basting is done by hand as you can see by the length of each stitch that are way too long for a machine. The breast pocket is still closed to avoid the fabric to move and distort the final piece. Its not meant to be pretty or regular, its purely functional. Its really delicate and its designed to snap easily (you can see that he accidentally pulled on a thread thats lower right on his jacket)
To me, the basting is reminiscent of the novel because they went back in time too far, the garnement isnt yet complete
And as you said, he tried to reference the count and he succeeded: the count picked some glass roses and accidentally made his outfit go back to what it looked like in the atelier
Right, I thought this too, like, he's outfit gives the ideia of unfinished, temporary, unraveling
Oh, that's such an important detail!! Super subtle - I love it even more now.

Luke: the colours of Zendaya’s dress don’t go together.
Peacocks: we need to have a word…
People who don't think blue and green go together need their heads checked. It's such an outdated mentality. Blue and green are analogous colours on the colour wheel. These are basic colour theory lessons. :)
Agree! there are blue flowers with green leaves
it literally goes so well...

To say that the colors of zendaya’s dress didn’t go together is kinda crazy to me lol
I adored how Lana’s look evoked the end of the story, “Just below the terrace, between the wrecked balcony and the wall, was a dense, six-foot-high growth of heavy thorn-bushes. The barbed foliage formed an impenetrable mass, and the people passing stepped around it carefully, noticing the belladonna entwined among the branches. Most of them were too busy finding their footing among the upturned flagstones to look up into the centre of the thornbushes, where two stone statues stood side by side, gazing out over the grounds from their protected vantage point.” And then about the woman’s figure it says, “In her left hand she lightly clasped a single rose, the delicately formed petals so thin as to be almost transparent,” just like Lana held a rose in her left hand.
OHHHHH YOU ARE ON IT BABE 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for that, I really liked her look and I did not know that - that makes it even better!
I liked the concept overall but the textiles did look a bit, year 10 fashion class project to me. Like the ideas could’ve been pulled through a bit more IMO
@@oki__ she deffs looks like she's under a mosquito net.
She knows her period pieces even the way she delivers her speech she ate down
You really do your homework. I am so impressed with your research into everything in your critiques. It makes it so much more interesting and informative.
Thank you for explaining these looks. I appreciate it sincerely as i initially did not understand what i was looking at with some.
Never clicked on a video this fast in my life
SAME 😂
SAME!! was waitinggg for this
Lmaooo ditto!

Me neither.
The clock dress- IMAGINE if as the clock appliqués went down the dress they started taking the clock apart? The mechanical pieces and jewels inside the clock are beautiful. THAT would have been amazing. They were halfway there. How no one thought to take apart a watch is nuts.
i was thinking how cool it would be to have actual working clocks too? like having the clocks go from functional to non-functional to disrepair would be crazy to see
I kind of wished the whole dress was just one big melting clock
OoooOooO
@@amyb1993 I was thinking that too
Especially with the popularity of steam punk
Cardi B, with her enormous black dress, represents the dark abyss that is narrated in the garden of time, which is a novel that inspired the Met Gala and I believed that she represents that concept very well.
“Ham and cheese on a roll”, you cracked me up!
The MET really needs to invite all the stylists to a private showing of these exhibits BEFORE the Gala takes place, even if only virtually. It could be literally a cut and paste situation for their clients to bring to designers. Well, no complaints Luke is doing a multi-part video series on this Gala and it is always fun each year to decide: (1) got it (2) sort of got it (3) nice outfit and the inevitable (4 ) what was anyone thinking when this was chosen for the Gala.
They all get a brief with a storyline. I don't know how so many of them dropped the ball, but then again this happens every year. 😢
i think it's just a case of ppl who appreciate fashion and want to play into the theme vs ppl who are only there because it's a big event and they get to dress up
they need to be coached bffr
I think Luke would appreciate knowing that my students today kept telling me “you’re more on theme than most of the people at the MET” just because I wore a floral top today. I teach middle school, and apparently 13 year olds can figure out how to follow a theme better than most of these celebs!
i love this 😅
first time watching your CZcams videos. You are great, you know your fashion history and you can articulate it very well. You have one more subscriber and you look good in that blazer!
And again, had the same thoughts about Da’Vine’s Gap dress! It’s gorgeous on her and impeccably constructed, but what a lost opportunity to not use one of the best parts of denim as a material-how it ages! And specifically to the person wearing it.
You would need a ton of raw/deadstock denim, which I have no idea if Gap would have on hand since that’s not what they’re really known for.
But idk, everyone that’s been on a raw denim journey knows how time is the only way to make those jeans perfect for you. Like. Never ever wash them, freeze them, sit in a bathtub with them on until they are for no one else but you.
Dammit, they could have had her wear the fabric as a gardening outfit before it became the dress and it’d be so damn compelling and a simple narrative.
Even Chris said he had no idea why they picked him to be a cohost in an interview, so even I didn't expect much after that. lol
Pretty certain it was to give Anna something pretty to look at. She does love to be seen with handsome, fit men.
@@charlottemccaig578 I can't say I blame her there. He wasn't on theme, but grrr such eye candy!
@@danicaaguilar6548yes, thats really a stretch. Yikes.
If I were Chris and want to promote my advocacy, I could go with printed photos on my suit because photo is our time stamp. Some photos are blurred and some are not, which represents that our memories are slowly fading due to the disease. And this whole story really fit with the Time concept of Met gala. Sigh, Chris is very lazy for this event.
i feel like the concept of mcqueen's sarabande dress would've been perfect for this met. imagine a celebrity wearing a dress with fresh flowers that decayed as they walked
That would’ve been DIVINE
There was some person E! interviewed at the Mark hotel that had live flowers sewn onto the dress & hair "that will be dead by the end of the night" But I suspect the dress itself was nothing special. Still, for a first time at the Gala for someone who is unknown to this Australian, at least there was an effort....
It’s what I wanted Cardi Bs dress to do. I wanted it to shrink and wilt away as she moved up the stairs. Like a dying black dahlia losing its petals.
Yes!
Do fresh flowers decay that rapidly?
What an absolute great Review oft the MET Gala Outfits. I learned a lot of References that I didn't know or saw, like Doja Cat's or I did Not See the Bugs on Cynthias Dress and the explanation of the "clothes eating Bugs" was so logical.
You did a great Research. I really Loved It!
You were on point with the "honest opinion", and I'm 100% here for all of it, so thank you for that❣️I don't think that I have laughed this much in a long, long time. I keep watching this review on repeat, because IT'S JUST THAT GOOD! Can't wait to see parts 2- 4.Thank you for making my day full of laughter and speaking your truth, I appreciate it!!!
Jennie is supposed to be the fashion icon of korea but her looks in the met gala are honestly not giving. She had soooo many opportunities in this theme. She couldve represented her country, referencing korean traditional clothes which are very colorful and rich with floral motifs just as that one indian interviewer did with her sari. Or i dunno. But generally, the lot of them are just so disappointing. They have money and teams for it. The met gala theme was the garden of time. It just doesnt mean a literal garden. It could be about decay and rebirth. There should have been more insect themed dresses, dresses overgrown with vines and moss, butterflies, ruins, etc.xx
Ikr. If she wore something like Miss Sohee Couture that would have been so perfect omg
And the worse thing is she decided this outfit with her designer 😂 She selected the colour and fabric and all shows how big of a fashion icon she is 😂
I think you're talking about Mona Patel, and she's an entrepreneur, her dress was about butterflies which does fit the theme well.
And I agree I expect more from Jennie every year and yet we get the most boring looks. They don't even look fancy or met gala worthy.
@@user-yb9zp2nd1zNot an ARMY talking about JENNIE!
She represented the SEA! She was on theme. Yall clearly don’t know the meaning
Jennie fans all over social media going crazy to the fact that jennie not on the theme like be for real … a cocktail dress to the MET ??? Groundbreaking
And the fans claim that jennie is a vip guesst so she can wear whatever she want … HELP the level of delusions is on another level 😩
A cocktail dress AGAIN! Every year
Smh she never slays at these events
True, i was confused whenever the brought VIP Guest i was like ?????
Classic kpop delulu stan behaviour 😂
What I read was that she represents the sea. That’s why the waves and the pearls. The theme wasn’t just flowers it was also the see, the land and the air. That’s why I also think that Ari was on theme because she represented the air with her wings and the white, cloud like dress. I am obviously a Jennie fan so I’m biased lmao. But I also do appreciate fashion and I can very clearly see the intent of the designer. I don’t think Jennie cares that much about the theme but I do think the designer cared a lot and tried to do something interesting and different and in my opinion they achieved it. To me fashion isn’t about being flashy it is also about being creative and caring about details. What’s also cool about the dress is, that it’s supposed to be completely recyclable which also includes the time aspect.
Love the amount of views already.!! Well deserved 👏👏
"Do what you're supposed to do, just show up and be a spectacle" - Salvador Dali Parton
Tyla's has the obvious connection to sands of time, but it's also so structural it reminds me of sand dunes which makes me think of Egypt/tombs/life/death which has the sleeping beauties connection
Her look gives ancient Egypt vibes
Especially since the dinner is in the Temple of Dendor
Yeeesss! The dress really gave me this impression of something beautiful that is not gonna last forever, like a wave or the wind will just sweep the dress away. Absolutely on theme in so many ways 🙌
@@wystellia yes this too!!
mummies being sleeping beauties is actually so smart and funny. wow
I love agreeing with educated opinions on fashion while I’m literally in bed in my Walmart stretch capris and Target men’s graphic t shirt
We know enough about fashion to respect it & demand more of the people who have money/connections to actually serve looks, even if we aren't out there participating. At least that's how I justify it. 😂🤣
Me wearing my three year old pajama pants with a hole in the knee that I refuse to get rid of because they’re so comfy literally gasping in disgust at all of these designer looks lololol

I’ve never cared for fashion & I’ve never crossed this CZcams channel before but I could watch him do this all day
Tyla is the most legendary first time attendee! She's one to watch, for sure! ❤
I totally agree. She gets it.

The fact that no one went ham for Dali melting clocks was so disappointing. It would've been so fun and something that could not be done at most other carpets.
sabrina harrisons dress was covered in melting clocks
edit: 33:18 just got to the part where luke reviews it
I think Klimt would have been another artist to reference.
@@psychedelicyeti6053THAT would have been incredible, fascinating idea.
Dali was my first thought, too. He created so many pieces of work with representations of time, garden and death. Fashion designers have influenced by his work on the runway before, why not for this?
I love how passionate you are about fashion....just from the way you talk about it.
I love your recaps!!!!!
As an Aussie was so incredibly disappointed with Chris Hemsworth, didn’t care, didn’t try. I can only imagine that he accepted the role because Elsa wanted to go and was only asked because Anna wanted to look at his gorgeousness.
😀
He could've even just worn a flower on his suit, but no lol
He could have pulled off ANYTHING! 😅sighsssss
He was chewing gum during his interview with Vogue. He may be hot but what a turn off!
Well Nicole & Keith did not disappoint! What a gorgeous couple.
I've said it last year and I'll repeat it this year. MET GALA turned into vanity fair of privileged crowd to have a costume party for adults to just look/photograph pretty. Disney Princess/Prince cosplay outside of Disneyland.
VERY FEW showed creativity, originality and digging deeper into the garden than just throw a flower or two onto their dresses.
Disappointed, but never surprised at this point. Which is somewhat ironic, looking at 'artistic' professions lacking of creativity...
I agree. My overall impression was a pretentious costume party where the attendees dressed desperately seeking approval.
@@user-rz2mx9gp7dIt’s truly so vulgar. People with an obscene amount of wealth rub it our faces while we all eat it up out the palm of their hands - while they don’t even try.
I've seen better looks at drag race and those people don't even have that much money
@@davidkonevky7372 because imho drag race is 1000x more about the actual creativity & effort put into the visual/appearance. And I agree, I can imagine some drag queens would have a feast with this year's theme.
@@nonameface90 Absolutely. Watching drag race totally desensitized me from enjoying the met gala because the most noteworthy looks would receive a "meh" reaction on drag race.

The whole evening was kind of stupid. The model girls (Vittoria, Iriana, Naomi, etc) showed up in very pretty dresses and looked great but not on theme at all. While other celebrities wanted to have a "moment" (Cardi B) without being on theme and looked ridiculous. It was kind of a circus.
Also Emily Ratjakowsky (I’m sure I spelled her name wrong) - but seriously how many more naked fitted dresses 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
@@karina.kagramanova she`s among the worst
Except that this is for charity. The people there were to contribute to the funding of the Museum. So not so ridiculous. Sure, more of them could have been on theme, but at least they showed up dressed nicely and did the practical thing of actually generously funding and preserving art.
I love how you made sense of/explained the cardigan on Kim’s Margiela look. I looked back at the 1997 collection and learned how the pilled cardigans are critical to the collection!! Thank you Luke 😌
Wisdom wore the most stunning red suit with that decaying aspect you were talking about! He looked like a dying/burnt rose it was amazing. So sad he isn't getting the attention it deserves!!
so funny how he went from being afraid of kpop fans to just going 'this sucks' bc the looks were that bad....
Seriously, they aren't on theme, but fans are defending jennie since it is in blue, it represents ocean, nd in skz dresses there are flowers which is on theme.
I am a kpop fan but seriously they didn't put any effort towards theme.
@@26triveni.k84 yeah i love both jennie and skz to death but blackpink has always kind of disappointed me for the met gala and now i have to add stray kids to the list of disappointments too…
