Jiri isn't even 30, guys. With his level of commitment and discipline he will refine and go on to have a crazy resume with the best highlight reel ever. His raw fighting ability and grit is just second to none.
Harsh on Choi, was an unreal fight that. Superb spirit and both very skilled

Bro the stricter damage based scoring system is a very good sign for the UFC, it’s a great counter for those annoying fighters that just hold their opponent on the ground with little to no damage. Just like Malkoun, hope he continues to lose and gets fired. He’s so bad

As for the tapping Jiri does when on the bottom or in the clinch: its a funny habit he has when he is basically frustrated that the opponent is coasting and does no real damage, in Rizin he would often even offer his neck on the ground and grin or go against the punches with his face without defending them when mounted to provoke the other guy and basically express that this is a waste of time and doesnt lead nowhere, he wants action and damage. Its a horrid habit of course and it nearly cost him a couple of times (Albrektson, Halsey), but thats that.
i’ve never seen a fighter that would give so many coaches nightmares but is still so good
@@adamnguyen7019 There are more or less used to it and he is totally chaotic. For years they have been yelling things like "Jirka, hands up just a little bit, please!" and after the first round here, they just tell him "you are doing fine but enough tomfoolery."
@@f4ust85 he’s like johnny walker in the sense that his chaotic style works for him, and when you try to confine that to a traditional boxing or kickboxing style his attributes and mentality won’t translate. his coaches have had to harness and embrace his style instead of trying to turn him into a completely different fighter.
@@adamnguyen7019 Well the fun thing is that it is not a raw guy that was never polished, but on the contrary he was relatively by-the-book 10 years ago, he won the Czech muay thai championship and at that time he was simply a very aggressive, athletic thaiboxer, but his style gradually developed as he started reading and became more and more ideological about fighting, he incorporated more karate, stopped throwing lowkick, put his hands lower and started relying more on his reflexes and so on.
Yeah Jiri started doing a lot of unnecessary movement attempted a flying knee but he wasn't even in range ....tht was odd

I understand that the judging criteria values strikes/damage more currently, but to what extent does a couple medial blows outweigh control from Mount/Crufix/Back?
Unless there's an actual submission threat, literally always. That's why a lot of people score round 1 for Santos because Valentina had to fight off a RNC for 2 minutes as opposed to round 2 where she had mount but was getting lit up.
1 light slap > Mount/Crucifix/Back control on its own. Control time means nothing. Dominant positions mean nothing. They are NOT scoring criteria. Those positions are called dominant because you can easily out damage your opponent from those because they are very vulnerable.
@@MegaShadow125 Of the 1:40 Santos was on her back 5 seconds were spent in submission attempts, neither were close. The rest of the grappling from Santos is not effective grappling. Trying to get a hook in is not a submission attempt. Meanwhile Shevchenko landed 20+ strikes from the bottom, and they actually had impact. Even Michael "Biased" Bisping had to acknowledge the impact they were having: "these are good shots ... she is generating a lot of force from that position". The first 3:20 of the round was all Shevchenko so R1, according to the Unified Rules, is a clear Shevchenko round.

The only thing santos did was get take downs and out scramble for position. her ground and pound was non existent. she got dominated in the stand up, idk why valentina kept taking it to the ground. she also gassed in the 4th round. this fight wasnt really as close as it seemed. the judge who gave it a 49-46 had it right.
To be fair it was a great card

Well first When Nunez last fought,she looked like sht,had nothing on her shots..As far as Velentina Shevchenco last night she was clearly robbed despite losing the lil grappling sessions she clearly won 3 maybe even 4 rounds BS really.The main Event Wow,if Yiri didn't reverse that final rollout Glover likely would've kept his Belt.I'd love a REMATCH! For all of us...not lucky but skillful stuff from jiri who needed a tough opponent like a tough Glover Texira 👌 awesome stuff

Big problem I had was the 49-46. If it was 48-47 okay fine. Shevchenko took the second. But 49-46 is ridiculous
49-46 is the correct card. I scored R1 Shevchenko because the RNC attempt at the end (the only 1) was not even remotely close to being locked in, neither arm was in position to finish the choke, and Val was in it for less then 2s before removing one arm. The neck crank was the other sub attempt, which was not close either and was more to control Shevchenko's posture. Aside from that there was no effective grappling from Santos on the ground and there was effective offense from Shevchenko: 20+ strikes, arguably more impactful than both sub attempts. This ground sequence being even or in Shevchenko's favor means that the round was her round, since the first 3:20 of the round she was clearly winning with a big first counter, two knees to the head, two solid shoulder strikes, out leg kicking Santos, even numbers in knees to the thigh.

UFC 261 will forever be the GOAT card and it's not even close. Those of you who remember know.
When it comes to Seung Woo Choi now I think, I haven’t done my research, but I imagine if he was a credible Muay Thai champ, he wouldn’t be in the ufc. When we see “specialists” in the ufc that transfer from their respective sport, it’s because they weren’t good enough at it. Izzy coming from kickboxing to the ufc was a downgrade in terms of competition. It was an upgrade for him because now he gets to shine and not get KO’d by Alex pereira, which is perfect to tie in. Pereira is a former kickboxing champion. He’s getting a bit older. He deals with incredibly strong competition on the regular. So as he’s probably just beginning to see his prime fading, he comes to the ufc. Sure guys want to take him down, but they fucking S U C K on the feet compared to what he’s capable of. So boom, he does nothing but work on grappling defense with Glover for a whole year and without training striking that entire time he could still probably knock out 85% of the middleweight competition in the ufc relatively easily granted the work he’s done on grappling defense pays off, which I think we’ve seen a bit of now. When younger guys come from another sport to the UFC, it’s because they weren’t good enough at their specialty to stand out where other specialists were far better. When older guys come from their respective sport to the ufc, you gotta watch out for those ones. Also, sorry, this wasn’t meant to be a pereira praise comment but it’s hard not to when mentioning all of that 😂😂 figured it would be a good example, but I digress. Probably not gonna bet on Choi anymore unless he’s fighting someone handicapped. God this sucks for Julian Erosa. Gets his clock cleaned by this guy but darces out an incredibly underrated grappler in Charles Jourdain. Actually fucking crazy when you think about that

@@chrisa8044 Ryan Garcia I believe said he wanted to retire from boxing at 26 and start an MMA career. I have a feeling that’s not going to happen. But why would someone so popular in boxing, which pays more than both put together, consider coming to the ufc? Because he thinks they’re easy. And he’s kind of right. If you walk into an octagon with those boxing skills and the ability to stay on your feet, you’re going to look like a phenom. Mma fighters are on like the 2nd lowest on the professional athlete spectrum, and that’s no knock on them. That’s just typically the nature of it. These guys are selling their physical well-being for something a little gnarlier than a sweet science. If they were capable of more, theyd be on a field, court, or rink scoring points with a ball instead of getting punched in the head. Then, once guys decide mma is becoming to hard, they go to BKFC
@@jagaloon14 That may have been the truth 10 years ago but now you have better athletes who compete at combat sport since childhood. Garcia would get destroyed in the ufc. No way he can stay on the feet against top level grapplers. Most kick-boxers who try and make runs in the UFC are unsuccessful because it’s a much higher level sport. Adesanya has found success because his striking style is better suited to MMA. Pereira is going to lose to Strickland and will probably never get a title shot.
@@chrisa8044 if Strickland grapples I don’t think pereira has a chance. At least on paper. But then I think about how Glover hyped him up as he helped to keep him very sharp on the feet leading up to last night. The old man held his own as long as he could and the grappling still proved to be top of the line. If he’s been putting in hard grappling work with the giant 185er that is pereira, idk maybe we could be wrong. But I see Strickland as a favorite in that matchup idk what the odds are yet actually about to go check

This was not a great performance from Jiri at all 😂 He got dominated by a 42 year old man for 4 rounds. Glover made bad decision after bad decision and it eventually cost him. There is no scenario where Jiri subs glover that isn’t caused by a giant mistake
What fight did you watch ? Glover was winning but it wasnt anywhere near a domination. Jiri looked better on the ground than the last three people Glover fought.
