    Dude ! Awesome summary and critique. I'm totally geeked about my 2022 GX Hydra Following XL. Been to Pisgah, Dupont, DTE, Stoney and Beech Mountain (might have been a bit on the edge there but WTH ....) and this bike just eats it up! She's a bobsled downhill and a billy goat on climbs. In my opinion this baby can't be beat !

    Awesome review brother. Just bought an evil insurgent v3 yesterday on summit bikes. Mostly because of your review on the bike. Can’t wait to get it. Cheers 🍻 bro.

    Good review. I'm going back and forth on a Following or Wreckoning build, but as supply chain issues persist, it's difficult finding high end components to complete my build this season to ride in Idaho. Love Evil bikes.

      Will it be your only bike? I’m curious what your criteria is and if it needs to be a do-everything rig. If so, I’d say build an Offering. I haven’t ridden a wrecker myself, but have heard that the V3 is really balanced for the amount of travel. And obviously, I love my Following. If I had to go with one bike, though, it wouldn’t be a Following because I like to ride bigger terrain too. I’d be looking at an Offering unless climbing efficiency is of secondary importance to downhill. Then I’d go with the Wreckoning. Thanks for watching! Let me know what you decide or if you have any more questions. I love talking bikes, especially EVIL!

      @@PunkUncleShow im in the same boa between offering and following. Im in New Hampshire where we have a lot of XC but also a lot of downhill. We do shuttle laps but those also involve climbing at times. Most of our stuff is you gotta go up to get down and the down can be fairly gnarly - im wondering if the Following could be handle to handle that with ease or if I should go to the Offering. I have a Wreckoning right now that im looking to off load for something that will climb better. Would love to talk Evil bikes with you!

    What is your handlebar width btw?

    • @PunkUncleShow
      @PunkUncleShow  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks so much! Yeah I absolutely love mine too (obviously 😆). I’ve never ridden any Push Eleven Six shocks but have just heard they’re incredible from everyone who has. My bars are 770. All the POV shots in this show my first pair that were 20mm rise. E*Thirteen got restocked finally so I snagged a pair of 35mm amd got my stack where I want it now. Much better. Both pairs of bars are at 770 though. It’s a good all around width for me. Thanks for watching and commenting 🤘🏼

    Great review - also saw your video on the low vs. x-low on the Insurgent. How is the Following in low vs. x-low?

    • @PunkUncleShow
      @PunkUncleShow  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! I’ve considered doing the same type of video on the Following. To answer your question, though, I think the Following is better in every aspect when in X-Low.

    How much psi are you running in the rear ? Rebound ? I just got v3 following in January. I’m 6 ft 230. At 270 psi to get 30 % sag . It seems to use all the travel on smaller hits .

    • @PunkUncleShow
      @PunkUncleShow  Před 2 lety

      I’m right there with ya. I’m running about 270 as well (I weigh 215 without gear). I’ve read quite a few times that due to the Delta Link, rear pressure is much higher than normal. Idk why, but it seems to be an issue. Mine works great, even at that high pressure, though.

    So how tall are you deciding to go with a large? I’m a bit stuck on sizing. How’s it compare in fit to your large Ripmo?

    • @PunkUncleShow
      @PunkUncleShow  Před 2 lety

      I’m 5’10”. To me, 480 reach feels perfect with the steeper seat tubes. The Ripmo always felt a little more cramped in the cockpit, but big and tall everywhere else. That’s all personal preference of course.

  • @dustinbjohnson
    @dustinbjohnson Před 2 lety

    Hey dude. Great vid. You said your running 25% sag.. I didn’t really understand are you running rebound full slow or full fast? But trying to get mine dialed. And it feels so fast .. and poppy. Having to run rebound as slow as I can. Been trying to research if others feel the same. I’m running 30%

    • @PunkUncleShow
      @PunkUncleShow  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey man! Thanks for watching. I’m running my rebound like 1 or 2 clicks from full slow. I have to run huge pressure too. But OTT Han being completely different from the way I’ve had to set other shocks up, it works really well. On my EVILs what I tried to do is run as much rebound as I can before they bob, set the sag and that gets me in the right neighborhood to fine tune. I’ve seen a lot of people mention having to set their shocks up unconventionally on EVILs so as long as I can get it where I want it, I don’t worry about it. You happy with the switch? I love my Following. Probably my favorite bike of all time.

      @@PunkUncleShow I appreciate the feedback dude! I have to agree. following is my favorite bike of all time. Happy to be back on it from the offering. But forgot just how poppy it is. It’s just so much fun. But might snag another Push 11/6 for the summer time 👌

    • @PunkUncleShow
      @PunkUncleShow  Před 2 lety

      I’ve thought about putting the Push and a 140 mm fork on mine to close the gap between what I’ll ride on this vs my Insurgent. I just worry that it might lose some of its climbing/pedaling magic, which is one of my absolute favorite attributes of this rig.

    I am looking at this bike. I currently have a 2017 Tallboy. I love this bike but need something a little plusher. I'm 51. The one I'm looking at in our shop weighs in at 31.5 lbs. My bike is right around 28.5. I'd love not to go up in weight. I know I can put lighter tires, rims, etc...Just curious if that is an issue for you and what yours weighs and how it is set up. Yes, I'm a weight weanie.

    • @PunkUncleShow
      @PunkUncleShow  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for watching, Fritz. I’m not a weight weenie at all, so I’ve got heavier tires than a lot of people would run on this bike. I believe I’m somewhere in the neighborhood of 31-32 lbs with pedals right now. That said, I know some guys in the EVIL group on Facebook say they’ve built Followings that come in around 26 and change. I’m 100% built for the Downcountry side of things with mine, but you could certainly go the XC route as well. In my personal opinion, I think you’ll find that with the newer bikes (I had a 2017 Hightower and demo’d Tallboys that year too) the weight is a lot less crucial. For one, the frames have gotten longer/bigger so they’re probably a tad heavier to begin with. But the newer geo is what makes them work so well. I had a Trek Fuel EX that was under 27 lbs back in the day, but it looks like a kids bike compared to new models. So yes, my bike is heavier, but I literally don’t feel it when I ride, so I don’t worry about it anymore. I guess what I’m saying is there’s a chance that a 2022 Following that is 4 lbs heavier than your Tallboy may still perform better in every way, despite the additional heft. More than a chance, actually. I’d be willing to bet, but I’ll also tell you that it takes some getting used to the longer and slacker bikes when you first switch over. It’s not so drastic coming from a 4 or 5 year old frame, but a lot has changed in a short time. Let me know what you end up doing and how you like it!

      Hahaha! Tyler, it’s a fair point in my opinion. Especially if it’s hanging around a bunch of EVILs. I can attest to how good the bike is, but a beauty pageant winner it is not 😆
