Love the sign behind.
Agreed! this bike is so much fun. not the best climber, but everything else is so worth it. I have a following MB and an Offering and i find a choose this bike 80% of the time. Its that much fun!
I am trying to get on an Offering here shortly. For around my area I think it would be a very balanced bike. But you are right, the Following MB is just a ripping good time especially if you like to get loose out on the trail!
are you saying you use the MB 80% of the time?
Brandon L in all honesty, probably more like 70/30. I think it’s the playfulness in the bike that keeps me coming back!
@@kmagrum76 that's surprising considering a lot of people with the switch from MB to the offering are saying the offering is better. I have a decked out MB and I was thinking I want more travel. ... I dunno what to do. Lol I probably don't even need it, it's just a want.
Brandon L haha. Yeah I hear ya! Both of mine are decked out too :/
I have a 11.6 coil on the offering. And the super deluxe on the MB
So they really are 2 different machines. I find the offering is amazing in gnarly black trails, and the MB is just more fun all round. (mind you, my MB has 140 in the front)
If I could only keep 1, it would probably be the MB
You should demo an offering. You might realize that the MB is enough bike!
I demoed the Insurgent, the Following Mb and the Calling and ended up buying a Calling. It S really playful and extremely capable 🤘
I agree! Review of the Calling is coming out next week.
Island Bike Life the Calling is their best bike in my opinion, it S just such a cool bike. It pops off everything 🤘
Another great review. I'd love to see you review the new Following and compare it to the Tallboy, Ripley and 429 Trail. Thanks!
I am trying! Demos are hard to come by because of Covid. I have my fingers crossed though.
@@IslandBikeLife Thanks and good luck!
You need a Patreon profile. People would definitely support you!
Thanks for watching! It is something I have thought about, maybe in the future. Still working on a solid subscriber base here!
Great honest review!
Awesome thanks for watching
Hi there,i do enjoyed your reviews and your presentation style. Is it possible for you to do a review on the 2019 Commencal Meta AM 29? I`m really interested on that bike especially the Signature model. Keep up the good work, cheers!
Finding a Commencal demo is tricky around here though I am trying to arrange for exactly that bike so stay tuned!
Great review once again! I know you have reviewed the Rocky Mountain instinct, do you have any time on a new model Altitude? I have no way to try one but have a line on a good deal for last years model
I have a very small amount of saddle time on the new Altitude. It is very plush and fun that’s for sure. It reminded me a great deal of the new Stumpjumper. Good all around bike with more focus on downhill I would say. Climbs decent for sure and loads of fun. It fits small like most new RM bikes.
Thank you
Hi Nick @Island Bike Life, great video. Late to the party here, sorry, but could you revisit the sizing on the following MB, please. For starters, you said you would prefer an XL? How tall are you? I’m 6’ and felt good on a Following V1 L and XL. Not sure about the MB. I was thinking of nabbing an MB at a clearance price before the new 2020 following is released (assuming it’ll have a steeper STA etc). Just need to get a better idea on sizing. I have not demo’d the MB yet but don’t have a chance either. Thanks for your help!
I am about 6’1”-2” with a 33” inseam and kinda long arms. For me the XL MB would fit better. I am used to longer reach bikes now and so more traditional sizing seems very cramped now. For me reach in the 485-490 range feels nice overall. Stack and other things change that but as a starting point that’s what fits me best.
Thanks for the reply! At 6’ I’ve always felt good in the 455-470 reach range. The L is on the low end of that range but never felt too short. I now I’ll compromise a little climbing efficiency for fun but the deals are good for the grabbing. Thanks again!
Hey Man, love your videos. I have a question for you (a bit off topic though). I saw that you rode the SB150 and the new nomad. I'm looking for a big bike for shuttle days. I want something as forgiving and composed as possible for the (very) rough terrain that I ride in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I love the new yeti geometry (I have an SB130) so I was thinking of an SB150. Do you think the nomad is a better choice for outright suspension performance in rough terrain? Or is the SB150 as forgiving as the new nomad?
For purely shuttle duties I might pick the Nomad over the 150. I ride everywhere with almost no shuttles so the 150 better fits my needs. However, if you are looking at Santa Cruz I would hold tight for another month or so and see what develops with the rumoured new long travel 29r from them. It might be a real contender for you if it comes to market.
Thanks for the advice!
I am at 1.74m , do you think a M size or L size will suit me , Thank You
I'm 5'11 do you think the Medium size would be ok? I always get confused because on the size chart it says M and L would both work
I would go with the L frame personally. Best to try both if you can to be sure.
Would to see your input on the calling!!
Stay tuned, I will be on one for a few days down in Sedona so that is on the way!
Would you say that the trail 429 is a better climber. Also do you think the trance 29er climbs better
I would say both of those bike are better climbers than the Following MB though perhaps not as 'fun' in other ways. You would have to balance what you desire from the bike. The 429 is a solid light trail bike, something I would consider at home in a technical XC environment where as the Trance is a bit more All Mountain in my view. The Following is more on the AM side of the spectrum for me.
@@IslandBikeLife Trance or trance 29? b/c the trance 29 is 115mm of travel.... not all mountain. trance 27.5 is a different story with 140mm.
Interesting.... I owned a Giant Trance 29er and sold it for a Following. I think the Following crushes it on climbs! Especially when standing, its got a great climbing platform IMO.
You said that the Following's geo measurements for the XL model is more similar to L from other brands. What's your height? I'm torn for my future build, i'm 6 feet with very long limbs and short torso, and not a chance of demoing the different sizes. Although i'm aiming at the Wreckoning for my future build, based on your experience, do you think that L would be just fine for me or not?
Hard to say for sure. You are in the L sizing range. Would depend on your in seem length but the XL could work. It would be best to try and get in one to confirm.
@@IslandBikeLife Thanks for the answer! I was thinking about it as a trade-off, really wondering if L would be just fine and the best fit after all because coming from 26' and 27.5' mtb's i'm kinda afraid i would miss the playfulness and fun about them when switching to L or even extreme XL "plow truck" 29er. For the same reason i keep a hardtail too, to keep me in check from time to time, so that i don't get over time silently "over-biked" and lulled by technology to gradually lose my trail riding skills. Thx again.
The XL Wreckoning is a massive feeling bike down what it is worth. The numbers between that and the Offering are equal given the Offering is more in line with common geo vs the Wreckr that is a bit ‘dated’. I would go with a L Wrecker but an XL Offering.
