  • Think back to the best qualities of every bike you’ve ever owned and wrap it into one modern day trail bike. That’s Evil’s new Following. It’s snappy and responsive like a BMX, corners like a slalom bike and climbs like an XC thoroughbred.

      You'd pick this over the Offering? Why is that? Im curious because I'm currently on a 2016 Genius LT 710 that has 170mm of travel front and back and for all the trails here in the bay area of California it's a little more bike then I need. Im looking at 130mm-150mm r and 140mm-160mm f 29ers for my next bike and the Offering is in my top 3 (along with the Forbidden Druid and Pivot Switchblade). So I'd love to here a mechanic's take on why he would reach for the Following rather than the Offering. Thank you for your consideration!

    • @marcwarren683
      @marcwarren683 Před 3 lety

      They're very different to me.
      The DW pedals noticeably better. Just so good. But then it never sinks into it's travel and kinda feels like you're riding on stilts during the downhill. Makes the bike feel a bit nervous to me. Some will call it very responsive and playfully, but I don't like it. I've tried letting air out of the shock to get more sag, but it doesn't change that feeling.
      The delta let's you sink in until you hit the middle platform. You are very supported, but it's lower into the travel with a very supple upper section that makes you feel very secure and forgiving.

      It might have to do something with stiffness of the front+rear triangle connection - the main pivot is quite near. You can see it in the 8:33 mark that the frame does not budge at all. That is quite impressive, most of the bikes woble all over the place when shralped like that. Nothing on Marine Alpine Trail looks anywhere near as beefy as this Evil.

    Everything functions properly czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of CZcams. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!

    Another pointless review! Does anyone still take these folks seriously? everything they say is nothing more than marketing BS. The following was a good bike (personally I preferred the Ripley, which I ended up buying, and bought the calling instead for added fun). The v3 (which I'm very interested in) went through some significant and unexpected changes which were to compete against bikes like the Ripley, 429, tall boy, etc, which are all bikes these people have ridden recently, yet NO comparison whatsoever to any of them. like WTF! they could have compared them on handling, stiffness, climbing ability, etc. but again, NOTHING! for instance, the following was an ok climber, but it absolutely sucked when compared to the Ripley and 429. yet the offering managed to improve this significantly somehow. Did they improve this on the V3 as well? is it closer or even surpass the competition in this area? This whole bible of bikes is a complete waste on these guys. Evil,, PLEASE send the v3 to Nick at island Bike Life for review. He's the only bike reviewer worth a damn on CZcams. Either that or figure out a way to offer a rental solution for the north central region. I'd pay shipping to have a rental bike sent to me for a long weekend as long if it makes sense.
