  • The phrase "baptism in the Holy Spirit" has been used to give name to a grace many have experienced. This grace is distinct from the sacrament of baptism, but this has been a source of confusion for many. Dr. Ralph Martin, Dr. Mary Healy, Peter Herbeck, and Pete Burak comment.

All that I know is, that after I felt drawn to go to the TLM, and after that Mass - despite not totally knowing what I was all to do - I had a love for God that I had never had before. I had a connection that I never had before - a contentment which continues until this day.

    Sister Anne
would say to ask Jesus for the Holy Spirit to be IGNITED in us. It’s in us since our baptism get it lit, Alleluia 🔥

Thanks for the speakers who have explained what exactly is the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. I received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit some 30 years ago, during the Life in the Spirit seminars. I could not explain this by anything better than the speaker said: immersed in the Spirit. Holy Spirit is Love and we are therefore immersed in God’s Love.
Yes, we are truly loved by God, the fact we normally don’t feel it. I felt being immersed in His Love at that very moment not because I was worthy of such a feeling. This is Grace, freely given by God.

Yes! Baptism in the Holy Spirit is NORMATIVE in initiation! May He fall in such power that all our dear theologians will be overwhelmed by experiencing His glorious presence!

There is no problem with the Charismatic Renewal

It would be interesting to know what St Peter meant - they received as we did. Did they hear the sound of the rushing wind that filled the place AND the tongues of fire on each person present? So are we to expect the same when the Charismatics lay hands/call down the Holy Spirit on those present in the assembly/retreat/conference?

Thank you, well said. I sure hope some people that don't understand the greatness of the Holy Spirit hear this.

Everything you state is normal Catholic concepts that are already found in the Church at large, the problem is saying there are certain sights and sounds of the Holy spirit. What exactly is that? The problem is expexting sights and sounds, and other worldy experiences which should not be depended upon for the faith. It discourages the faith when this sight and sound does not come to fruition or happen regularly. This is the problem with the charismatic renewal.
