    Reagan got rid of mental hospitals and a few laws that prevent states from commiting people forcefully. Our version of incarceration doesn't rehab people. So these democratic cities see this and try not to put too many people in jail. Imo free health care will bring back mental health hospitals and fix this issue. we also need to give states more power to force poeple who obviously need help and to be committed, either temporaly or permantly.

  • @undagroundsoundproductions4214

    What Joe said was happening IS happening in Hawaii. I live on the Big Island and car thieves are running rampant. They get caught and released and caught again within 72 hours, like what Bart said. I also have a lot of cop friends here as I used to work at a gas station and they would hang out 'cause we gave them free coffee in exchange for their presence and security. They say the same thing. The cops are all doing their job but the court system doesn't prosecute. The excuse the courts give is the same, as well. To petty of a crime and they don't want to flood the prisons in fear of COVID. At least we have a "neighborhood watch" page on Facebook that are pretty on top of it. They sometimes find cars and the thieves within hours. That's the good thing about living on an island, not much place to hide. It's sad. We used to be such a quaint old town. Now everyone's all riled up from media, with the way they only show the extremists and they act like it's LA or NY here and mimic the shit they hear and see when it's not even close to what it is up there. That and all these movie stars coming in with their opinion and think that they have a say in shit. The Game of Thrones actors tried to butt in with the TMT telescope protests like they live here and know what's going on. Even the Rock tried this shit since he has family ties in Waimea, another town on the island. Well, I don't see him helping us out when there isn't a controversy. Only when it's convenient for them and their egos. Fuck him and his shitty tea energy drink, Toa or whatever it's called. Tastes like shit tea and is way overpriced. I'm not gonna pay $4 for a can of shit water, even more so when I know the profit goes into a hypocrites pocket. Shit, the hawaiians that protest don't even know what's going on. There was a town meeting to discuss if it was allowed for the University to build another telescope years ago. Where were those protestors then? Not at the meeting so the University got the green light. Only when they were trying to build it, did they get pushback. Just a bunch of crybabies that are throwing tantrums because they know they're wrong, but want to fight to have their way. Too late, asshats. Now you "natives" look even more stupid than the protestors on the mainland. At least they have a valid reason. It's weird, we've always been behind on things because of location and size. New music and movies used to come here a year after it came out. It's the same with the toxicity that we see on the mainland and it's finally reached us. Yippie! (I say with hard sarcasm.)

    I agree with Joe's frustration, but the discussion of criminalization of repeat offenders is the exact argument against providing people of lower socioeconomic status opportunities for growth. It is often incarceration but where are the opportunities for rehabilitation and reform? Tie in again the argument for the need of the provision of mental health treatment. It's a cycle and system that's slow to change.

    I agree it’s more nuanced or complicated. Systemic, social, economical factors affect the people. And yes, you can’t have too many people locked up due to fears of COVID, but also consider tax dollars or limited funding and resources, or that not every offender will be a repeat offender; how would one assess or determine that, etc. I think at the very least though, second offences should come with severe consequences, even if it’s a petty crime.

    In Upstate NY that keeps happening regarding criminals and repeat offenders being let out with an "appearance ticket" and then as Bart said, they are right back at it committing the same crimes again the next day, which is pissing off the police no end. The criminals are getting younger with more violent crimes too. Two 14 and two 15 yr old girls stabbed a older woman while she was sitting in her car at the mall. They then dragged her out of her car, robbed her of her wallet and phone, and stole her car, which they later crashed. And in another instance, a couple of teenage boys shot and killed a man in broad daylight, when they attempted to carjack him. Almost everyday on the local news they are reporting someone being shot and/or stabbed. 😞 For all the protests in the summer of 2020 with them screaming that black lives matter, yet now a lot of them are out there shooting and killing each other.

    • @the90sbrain
      @the90sbrain Před 2 lety +2

      Yep, it's been like that in the black community for ages now. That's why people had a problem with BLM. Because black lives aren't cared about by other blacks, especially by BW. So many men get screwed over by W that I'm willing to bet this wasn't a random attack. Could've been an ex, a customer, maybe another woman didn't like her, and sent him to take her out. One thing for sure, the current media is against all of us. Anti-human. We're losing our freedom, rights, families, friends, security, and sanity. We have no choice but to fight back.

    Have you thought of police defunding as a cause being that it's happening mostly in cities that defunded the police.

      Police defunding isn’t the issue, as joe stated , police make the arrests they’re supposed to do. Prosecutors fail to prosecute a repeat offender.

    Wanna know what's crazy to me? I'm from the South. Alabama to be exact. Lots of people like to assume that the south is the most racist place,but from my traveling experience, all the racism I witness are from liberal states that has a higher diverse population. In the South People will be nice to you, even if someone might say a racial slur. That's the worst of it. You won't get beaten up or killed for it. Hell, most times if someone say a racial slur to you, make a joke back towards them and they'll be your bestfriend afterwards.
