Hello FLYING CAMERA CREW!
TIPS FOR DRONE HANDHELD SHOTS: LESS THAN 1 MINUTE CLIPS:
1). Keep the drone turned OFF until you are ready to start recording.
2). Once the short clip is done recording, turn the drone off.
If you do these 2 things, your drone will not even get warm when recording clips less than 1 minute.
Don’t believe me? Actually test it!
Today’s drone tutorial is intended to help us flying cinematographers see our creative tool of choice just a little bit differently. I use my DJI Mini 3 Pro in dozens of creative ways to demonstrate there’s
different ways to utilize this piece technology.
Even if you have the DJI Mini 2 or larger drones like the DJI Mavic 3 or Air2S, you can still use those cameras more like traditional land cameras. They all have an amazing gimbal & a wireless monitor which are enormously useful for solo creators to get b-roll shots & document your scenes.
Some people LOVE their large gimbals and setting them up and carrying them around.
I personally do not. So I found using my drone more like an action camera is much faster & easier.
AND, as I mention in the episode, the footage from your drone b-roll shots will now perfectly match your arial footage! ….because its the same camera. This continuity in image quality is massively important and saves a huge amount of time in color grading.
I wasted so much time trying to color match footage from my mirrorless camera, my GoPro & my DJI drones. It never matches, because it’s entirely different sensors & lenses.
My suggestion here solves that problem.
Let me know your thoughts, questions, experiences!

How are you attaching a drone to a tripod?
Genius is right! Even though the Osmo Action 3 has wireless monitor via DJI Memo app, you can't gimbal up or zoom. Thanks for sharing these ides!
How do you attach to tripod?
Does it matter that the arms are not extended?
Just found your channel and I have to say that your videos are pure quality! May your dreams come true! Subbed! ❤👍
Great new approach to using a DJI drone! However, it would be great, if you could show how you mounted the drone to your monopod and what equipment you used to accomplish a sturdy and safe connection.
I'm looking forward to all your upcoming videos!
I've asked the same question - there doesn't seem to be a video on how he did it.
@1:40 Pause here.
Looks like a cell phone mount was used, facing up. Drone placed on top held with rubber band.
@@05glisedan yeah just spotted that now - thanks 👍
I used a velcro strap of the type used to secure lipo battery in RC aeroplane etc
Everytime he tilts the head backward with that smile on his face and clenched fists I think he's going to say "You're tearing me apart, Lisa !"
I'm so glad I did find your channel weeks ago. I barely ever hit a subscribe button that fast. So much creativity. Every single video is pure inspiration. Although I film with my flying camera already more than a year, my point of view to how to shoot drone videos changed a lot. Thank you for your fresh way of providing content.👍
Thorsten I truly appreciate you support brother. So glad to hear my silly playful tutorials are helpful. Let me know if there’s any topics you’d like me to cover in an upcoming episode. I have a few good ones coming!
@@TedNemeth Well, so far I was always surprised by your content. So just go on like this, publish anything that doesn't follow the usual conventional path. Think against the stream. That's what brings creativity and inspiration, and that's what I like about your channel.
Your creativity is so inspiring Ted! So grateful that you share your passion and love for filmmaking! Great video, going to try some shots today!
hey Bobby. man thank you for the kind words. let me know how it goes. FLYING CAMERA CREW.
Ted : please keep going with the tutorials : to my mind they are simply the best source of technique / creative ideas / inspiration for us drone flyer film makers
I am certain that the subscribers will come across once they see your wizardry
I get so much from one single tutorial of yours that I can't wait to see the next
THANK YOU - you deserve success and I hope you get it
thank you kind sir! Man hearing that you & the community are getting value from my goofy little tutorials is truly like caffeine pumped directly into my ventricles. Many thanks for letting me know. And hey I LOVED your Llandudno Pier footage. That stunning blue tone with the fog deleting the skyline. Wow very cool. I want more.
Totally agree, I took few "non aerial" shots both with my old Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic Mini 3 Pro and always got back home very satisfied!❤
Hi Ted,
This was a first video I watch from your chanel at the end of 2021.
And now after more then a year cannot wait for next episod.
So must say learning from you is like a Obsesion for new frontiers.
Hey wish you great upcoming 2024.
And wish that comuinty on your chanell minimum triple because it is not a joke you are in TOP 3 best Aerial photographers on CZcams.
Congratulation

I have to tell you, I look forward to seeing each one of your videos. Your tips and ideas are always very eye opening. I don't have a Mini 2 or 3. I have the original Mavic Mini. I also fly a P4P, Mavic 3 classic and Mavic air2. All of your tips help even when flying the bigger drones. Looking forward to your next video.
John wow thank you for the kind words of support. it really helps a lot to hear that my playful little tutorials are helpful.
Dude you have some great drones there! Love the range. Which one do you fly the most?
@@TedNemeth for my side gig I use a Mavic 3 classic, Air 2 & P4P. As a LEO I fly mostly the M30T & Mavic 2 enterprise. Your videos are helping me finetoon my retirement gig.
So happy for you man getting the views with this particular video.
This is what your channel SHOULD be getting!
Absolute legend! 🙌
wow man. truly thank you. I needed to hear that today. some days are easier than others. Please let me know if there’s any specific topic you’d like me to cover in an upcoming episode!
Ted, my name is Jim. I just wanted to take a second to thank you for your contributions to our community! I had begun to grow tired of my drone. Your creations have inspired me to go further, and have helped me to fall in love with my hobby again! Have some advice on sharing my art?
Jim! Literally the greatest comment/compliment I’ve ever received. Inspiration is the greatest gift. Whiskey is a close second.
Your question is advice on sharing your art. What type of flying camera scenes do you like to capture? Do you have a particular topic you’re interested in? Check out this recent episode…..it actually addresses a few ways to share our drone content.

Epic video!!! I didn't realize all the versatility of the camera on the drone. I was stuck on just using the camera in flight... You're an igneous Ted! Keep up the excellent work. You're an inspiration!
It would have been good to see how you actually mounted the drone to the tripod. What precautions if any to help with the overheating. If the drones not moving most certainly with the mini 3Pro it's going to get hot as it need the airflow.
greetings sir! it gets warm after 10 minutes but that’s no problem at all. Most b-roll shots are less than a minute. You can find straps on Amazon designed for this, to attach to a handle or tripod mounting plate. Say hello to Scotland for me! My grandmother is from Scotland (Mary Ellen Bute). She was part of some royal high society family. She told them to F**K off and moved to New York City and became an avant garde filmmaker. She was SUCH an amazing person.
The Scots have a spirit like no other.
@@TedNemeth en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Ellen_Bute?
Excellent video creative as always.
I would have liked a closer look at how you attached the drone to both the tripod, and the selfie stick though.
Looks like my little mini 3 has just become even more versatile, thanks for demonstrating this great idea.
Hope your subscribe numbers continue to grow, your input and entertaining style deserves a wider audience.
Same, he didn't really explain what he bought to make that work. I tried pausing the video to see what it was, but I can't tell.
@@tomwehrle Maybe a mobile mount and a rubber band I think.
I would like to know how or what attached is needed to connect the drone to the tripod.
I was thinking the same and also tried stopping the video. Looks like a spring-loaded mobile mount with tripod thread which I have already. Going to try it with my Mini 2.
hey James! i apologize for not having a link to a product. I just used a simple smartphone holder from a dollar store and a rubber band. Then used a generic GoPro clamp to mount to the monopod.
James thanks for watching!
I look forward to your videos. Thanks for all you do, Ted.👍🏾
ah man I appreciate all your support brother.
Loved the joy and vibes in your talks! Keep up the good work. Love from India ❤
Another banger of a tutorial! I love your outside-the-box thinking! About your one minute video, loved that at first I thought you were just doing B&W until the 7-Eleven shot when I realized it was reduced saturation. I love that capture of the hints of colors popping out. Great stuff! Just one question, though: is 7-Eleven coffee really any good? (j/k, I don't drink coffee!) BTW, I'm loving my new Mini3Pro! I've got a few videos posted with it now, even though the weather hasn't been great. Would love to hear your feedback on any of them (I'm especially happy with how the gloomy sunset video came out!).
hey David! Congrats on the M3P brother. Dude I loved your latest video. The sound design, and you held each shot perfectly.
I highly recommend the dji pocket 2 for shots like these. It's like taking the camera out of your drone and putting it on a small base. It's wirelessly controlled although the range is limited but does allow for panning and tilt.
I just want DJI to make an Osmo Pocket version of the 4D (Pocket + Z-Axis stabilization) with 10-bit D-Log and 20MP RAW
I just picked up a Pocket 2 and was going to suggest the same thing. All the benefits of this video but way more convenient.
@@arnisbrown5848 its coming, but the quality of the pocket 2 is pretty phenomenal. Just got one yesterday.
thats the point , if u have this drone , surely its a bang for the buck haha.
Awesome tip. I have many cameras and gimbal, although the effort & time required to use is time-consuming vs. Air3 on a tripod.
Great addition is RC2 controller capturing the perfect composition in less time. Thank you ❤
This is art.
This is the best pro tip I have ever seen, which is why I always look forward to seeing your content. You are light years ahead of the rest. A huge thank you. 😀👍
Darren I really needed to hear this today. Man thanks buddy.
How to heat sink a drone 101
These methods hardly get a mention, but using a single camera can save a load of time switching between cameras on location and curating files in post production. And the wireless monitor really helps get angles and lighting right. Great tips, I've been doing this for two years.
I just got my drone today, and I am so excited to learn and start creating, taking my photography to the next level... Thank you for sharing the knowledge 🙏
Recently discovered your channel. Shame on CZcams algorithms for not pumping this channel up. Ive been stuck with the same small handful of desk jockey drone videos that are ultimately just selling luts. You truly are a creative and thank you for sharing what you have learned.
yesss! thank you for the support my flying filmmaker friend. Welcome aboard.
the drone 4k camera is so amazingly clear... this really is genius!
Great idea using the same camera. This helps keep the look consistent.
That was great! I just received my first drone, the Mini 3 Pro! You’ve inspired me to try new things like this with good reasons. Thanks a bunch!
dude congrats on your new flying camera. super exciting!
Some real thinking outside the box going on here. I absolutely love it!
Danny I really appreciate your support. Had fun making this episode. Let me know if you’d like to me to cover a certain topic in an upcoming episode. And welcome to THE FLYING CAMERA CREW.
I figured that stuff out the first week I had my mini 3 Pro...I'm glad someone "brought it up"
Crazy👍
Holy moly, Ted! I tried taking handheld shots of my notoriously uncooperative cats. The photos are spectacular! Thanks for the tips!
Nice! Thanks for the tips.
Dude. that is GENIUS!!! I'm going to share this on my FB page. You got a new subscriber.
Great fun Ted, a very good point about continuity with the same camera. I agree about full size mirrorless gimbals - I have one and when I remember all the settings its brilliant, when I remember all the settings that is 😆 Cheers, Chris
hey great to see you here my friend. glad you liked the episode. I’m finishing the next one on some drone editing tricks. fun.
These are awesome tips, will definitely use them. Thanks
Hi Ted. Thanks for these great tips and filming ideas. You sure made the entire video much fun to watch. 😄

Very useful video Ted! So many thinks we can do with all these drones for to be creative! Thank you Ted for sharing! Greetings from the Greek island of Samos!
Those really are some beautiful ideas and I need to try how much I can do with my Mavic Mini. Thanks for these tips!
Awesome Tip Ted ! Thanks
hey my friend. many thanks for the support.
Another brilliant video and by far the most creative use I’ve seen of a DJI drone. Loved the 1 minute video of the coffee rescue and all creative angles and shots. I’m always learning new techniques from your videos. Please keep them coming 🙏
Michael! many thanks my friend. I truly appreciate your support. And I LOVED your latest ZEN episode.
Thanks Ted, very inspiring and cool video!
Great 👍. Makes sense to use the gimbal facility and RC as monitor. Brilliant because it's so simple. Thanks
hey David. Many thanks for checking out the episode. Let me know if there’s any topics or questions for an upcoming episode.

Lots of great points there, well thought out advice thank you. Liked and subscribed 💪
Wow! That coffee mission video was fantastic! Thanks for the great ideas Ted.
Absolutely Brilliant take on shooting with the Mini 3 Pro!!!
Love it! Not sure I've ever thought about driving over my Mavic 2 Zoom until today, and using the tilt/zoom on the ground angle is next level! Also, thank you for rescuing that coffee :)
HA! driving over my Mini 3 Pro is not the smartest thing I’ve done. It’s a low bar. many thanks for watching. welcome to THE FLYING CAMERA CREW
Hands down the best drone channel

This is so simple yet I never thought to do it. Nice work man
hey Eric. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a note. Just keep the clips under 2 minutes and turn the drone off right after stop recording. Heat will never be a problem.

Brilliant Ted i must try this when the weather gets better here in the UK
right on Ian. Yeah weather here in NY has been sub optimal. Fly safe.
Really appreciate your fresh new perspective on shooting content. It's inspiring and really refreshing to watch.
The mount seems like a great first or second project for my 3D printer I just ordered. I could create a "shoe" to hold the bottom of the drone, strap over to hold the drone, and then a Go-Pro style mount ears below to attach to a tripod or go pro intended mount. I'm just curious 2 things: How do you capture the audio? Do you find a phone the best, iPad, or a Digital camera with an external input (bonus of a 2nd camera shot). 2nd question: Do you like "Clap" or do something to make post-shoot production easier to sync the audio and video?
Great Idea! I will try it with my Mini 3 Pro. Thanks!
right on brother. please let me know how it goes. Remember the key is to keep the drone turned off when it’s not recording. And if you keep the clips under 2 minutes you’ll never have a heat issue.
You are still one of my fav creators on this app.
Cool video - opened my eyes to some other ways of using this drone - thanks
Dude this is an awesome trick. A no brainer for B roll! Thanks for the tip!
Fun editing on this tutorial!

thanks for watching my friend. A drone is just a creative tool. There’s always a few different ways to use a creative tool.
Some great ideas and creativity here. Will have to give this a try with the Mini 2. Using the tilt feature of the camera is genius, as most of the other stuff can be achieved with an action cam, but the drone is ideal over a gimbal as you mention.
