    Today we helped an sweet old lady in need. This was a new client who was having a tough time with a broken HVAC system and needed relief from the heat right away. We set her up with a new Midea U-Shaped Inverter window Air Conditioner. By separating the condenser coil and fan motor from the evaporator coil and fan motor, Midea has created a quiet and efficient window A/C.

    Enjoy while it works. I pursed one 12000-BTU for me and one for my son. They both worked for two summers and after that went dead. The code indicated that there is a loss of refrigerant. I contacted midea customer service and they gave me the run around by saying that the unit has only one year warranty. That is correct, but the user manual state that there is three years warranty on the compressor and five years warranty on the seals. I contacted them again and basically they told that unless i pay for a approved technician to check the units they can't help me. After I payd $500 each for a defective unit I didn’t feel that I have to pay for someone to confirm what the code ELOC meant. Since there was no help from midea I had to dispose both in the garbage.

    On my 12k Midea, it required a quite severe downward tilt outside to enable the condensate to drain, if it's not tilted enough, the water collects and remains inside, and the humidity does not get reduced properly as it cools, but instead went up, making it clammy feeling.
    Test your unit operation by getting a combo thermometer/hygrometer and see if the humidity goes down while it's working.

    • @elitehandyman911
      @elitehandyman911  Před měsícem

      The water is actually supposed to stay in the outside pan. That water helps to cool the Condenser coil and makes it more efficient.

    • @dubmob151
      @dubmob151 Před měsícem +1

      @@elitehandyman911 that would only be helpful if it's being picked up and splashed onto the condenser. If it's sitting in a puddle in the tray, it's not helping, and only furthers corrosion.

    • @elitehandyman911
      @elitehandyman911  Před 2 měsíci +1

      So far, I've not had an issue. I have had to put the legs on a very large stone sill, but it was very secure. The bracket is actually pretty long and has a lot of adjustment.

    I’m interested in this AC for power outage usage only and with the window always down to help secure when it’s positioned. Assuming calm weather and window down, might it be possible to skip screwing the bracket into the moldings? I want 100% reversible.

    My window is only 13 inches high. Would it still fit? I’m assuming I can slide it in through the back by tilting it a little bit. Or the 13.75” a hard number?

    • @elitehandyman911
      @elitehandyman911  Před měsícem +1

      Unfortunately I don't think a tilt would work. The unit is only 13.25 tall, but the mount and case have a high point which would raise it before it slides into place. Possibly, if the top sash is high enough, you could remove the lower sash and reinstall it without connecting into the springs, sliding it into the U. But you would not have use of the springs while in that configuration.

    So, almost every single window A/C unit has a maximum width of 36" and my window is unsurprisingly 37.5" wide. Am I screwed or is it just a matter of putting some extra DIY into the installation?

    • @elitehandyman911
      @elitehandyman911  Před měsícem

      You can slightly offset the A/C to one side utilizing only one side of the mounting arms and then for the other side use the screw holes in the bottom of the arm mounts. You can get extra insulation here * : amzn.to/3VU2im8 and it tapes together or a little bit of super glue works well. Any modifications are done at your own risk.

    does it condensate and have a drain?

    • @elitehandyman911
      @elitehandyman911  Před měsícem

      All A/C units generate condensation. This one has a gravity drain hose that goes to the outside pan. The pan holds a certain amount of condensation water to splash up onto the condenser coil which improves the cooling efficiency. There is also a rubber drain plug outside on the bottom of the pan to be able to release that water before storage.

    • @elitehandyman911
      @elitehandyman911  Před měsícem +1

      I actually have. The internal window bars won't reach both sides, but you can get one side in by offsetting the a/c and secure the bracket internally on one side, but also use the screw holes through the bottom of the mount bracket into the sill where the mount doesn't reach the other side. Extra insulation can be found here - amzn.to/3LgXfY7 and can be crazy glued together #alittlegoesalongway .
      If you do it, please be sure to let us know how it goes.
      If you're in the Greater Boston area and want it done for you, let me know and I'll hook you up.
