Installing 12K Midea U-Shaped Window Air Conditioner - New for 2024
* Click "See More" to view product Links Below.
Today we helped a Boston couple cool off their home gym with the Installation of a Brand New 2024 12,000 BTU Midea U-Shaped Inverter, Split Window, Air Conditioner. This one is special as it has M-Shield which is Midea's new built in Ionizer Technology. There is no central HVAC system in this old house, so a window unit is their only option.
See why Midea has quickly become the number 1 selling brand in the USA. By separating the condenser coil, compressor and fan motors from the interior evaporator coil and fan motor, Midea has created a quiet and efficient window A/C.

Omgggggg thank you sooo much it workkkkk
You're welcome! Thanks for the support
Old city ☑️ , apartment upstairs where people wont steal or damage/ graffiti my ac (just because) ,✖️. Not available 😢
Thank you for watching.
The other benefit is you can close the window which gives better insulation than the curtains seen on other window units
Absolutely. That’s a great point.
Just installed one of these yesterday so far so food. Blows super cold air. But for the life of me can't find the drain hole.
No drain hole for now. The condensation flows from inside to outside via gravity, then once outside, sits in the pan and gets splashed up onto the condenser coil. That's by design. This makes it more efficient than other window A/C units. There is a rubber plug on the bottom of the pan of some models, but only use this to empty the pan before storing for the winter then put it back in.
So there has to be a drain hole somewhere or it would overflow.
Absolute garbage!
Tell us more about why you feel this way.
@elitehandyman911 my 12k didn't even last 3 seasons. Waste of 4-500 💸 dollars.
does it condensate and have a drain?
All A/C units generate condensation. This one has a gravity drain hose that goes to the outside pan. The pan holds a certain amount of condensation water to splash up onto the condenser coil which improves the cooling efficiency. There is also a rubber drain plug outside on the bottom of the pan to be able to release that water before storage.
How much detergent do you put into the toilet?
I use 12-16 ounces
@@elitehandyman911 That's great. Thank you.
I have one still in the box and am reluctant to install it bc I don’t leave window ACs installed all year. Any advice? The bracket makes it seem impossible to install and uninstall every summer.
Once you set it up the first time, reinstallation in the same window is a breeze. I can uninstall and store in less than 20 minutes and reinstall in less than 20 minutes as well.
Wow this is a great video. I've replaced tons of these, I don't even know how I ended up here but I watched the whole video. You did a great job filming and editing this.
I appreciate your support and am thrilled that you found the video engaging. Thank you for watching till the end!
Just installed a Midea unit yesterday. Great video. Great unit, very easy to install..
Thank you so much for the positive feedback! I appreciate you watching the video and finding it helpful.
Badass video. Many thanks
Thanks so much for the great comment
It works dont be shy with the soap
Yep. 12-16 ounces works best.
How far does this stick out from the window in the interior side of the room?
It may differe slightly depending on your window and sill design, but right about 8 inches.
They just need to design something for casement or awning windows that pivot out which were popular in the 80's. It is fortunate that the sash window has regained popularity with new construction so these window AC options are once again possible but we do have a lot of houses with those casement and awning windows.
It would be nice. Midea does make a casement ac, but it's not a split like this one.
Where are you located? would like to hire you to install 2 of these
I'm in Boston, but we have reps in most major cities as well.

Thanks, that peppermint handsoap from Bath & Bodyworks finally found a purpose. By the time I got a bucket of hot water to add, the fix was in! Saved the night.
Great to hear. Hot water is another good step too
Hey, I am currently installing this however I do not have enough space for the drill-holed screws on the sides of my window. Alongside that, in the middle of my window it is plastic so can I just drill through that aswell?
I wish you could attach photos. The plastic may slide up? Also you can drill and screw vertically down through the mount arms if the sides don’t work for you.
@@elitehandyman911 Thank you for responding! unfortunately, there is nothing under the mount arms as it is hanging from my window. Will update you on the install, but if the screws are not in place per the manual, do you think that this would still hold the A/C correctly?
Did you use liquid soap???
Liquid Detergent. Not all soaps are detergent.
@@elitehandyman911 ok.thanks

Yeah but if the windows don’t slide up and you have the ones that slide horizontally can’t use this one 😢
Correct. You can use a casement unit or portable.
Does it do anything for cleaning sludge from the drain lines? Or only for clogs?
It is really meant for clogs. It may help clear sludge a little bit, but enzymes and a brush would be better.
This video is why I get to live another day !
Haha ! Good news for sure
Thanks Elite, I’m installing one of these tomorrow. Now I look forward in confidence to a seamless installation. Blessings Friend. ☝️☦️👍
Great to hear. Thank you for the positive words and let us know how you like it.
Didn't work. Needed to get a plumber with a proper plunger.
If it didn't work you likely have something non organic stuck in there. The most common thing is a toothbrush. You'll need a plumber who knows how to extract a hard blockage.
@@elitehandyman911 The plumber came with a long plunger and cleared the blockage of poo and toilet paper. There's nothing inorganic down there. I know because I live by myself and nothing else has gone down the pan. It's all fine now thankfully. Thanks for the video anyway.
Enjoy while it works. I pursed one 12000-BTU for me and one for my son. They both worked for two summers and after that went dead. The code indicated that there is a loss of refrigerant. I contacted midea customer service and they gave me the run around by saying that the unit has only one year warranty. That is correct, but the user manual state that there is three years warranty on the compressor and five years warranty on the seals. I contacted them again and basically they told that unless i pay for a approved technician to check the units they can't help me. After I payd $500 each for a defective unit I didn’t feel that I have to pay for someone to confirm what the code ELOC meant. Since there was no help from midea I had to dispose both in the garbage.
Sorry to hear this. I'm surprised they wouldn't have better customer service.
I just got one of these, but foolishly realized that since I have a double window, I have no way of screwing the bracket to both sides of the window frame. I am hoping there is a way to solve this problem.
You can offset the bracket and a/c to one side securing as normal. For the other side use the longest leg and screw it vertically into the sill. This is why there are holes in the bottom of the legs too. You will be missing the internal window lock bar, but the screws will keep it safe. For the insulation you can get hard insulation at any home store or get midea replacement here * - amzn.to/4bBkZ40 and glue two together together. We use just a few dabs of super glue. If you're in Greater Boston let us know and we'll be happy to help.
@@elitehandyman911 Oh. yeah....I see the holes in the bottom of the bracket....Duh me. :D But can you explain why you have to offset the unit? I wish I WAS in Boston....thanks!
Does the AC unit lock on the track?
It has indentations on the bottom that keep it secure side to side. Then 2 bars and screws secure it. Honestly one of if not the most secure units available.
Why does our toilet cannot handle my poop every forking time?! It's so embarrassing especially that I live with 7 more people and they had to wait for me to fix it. Glad I found this video.
You probably have something hard partially blocking the toilet exit. Tooth brushes are most common and very hard to remove.
Not going to lie I didn't think it was going to work thank you 😅😅🫱🏽🫲🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
So, almost every single window A/C unit has a maximum width of 36" and my window is unsurprisingly 37.5" wide. Am I screwed or is it just a matter of putting some extra DIY into the installation?
You can slightly offset the A/C to one side utilizing only one side of the mounting arms and then for the other side use the screw holes in the bottom of the arm mounts. You can get extra insulation here * : amzn.to/3VU2im8 and it tapes together or a little bit of super glue works well. Any modifications are done at your own risk.
There’s a pickup tube that moves the water from the front to the back already thousands of reports of them getting blocked and leaking.
Please post the link to the report so we can inform people.
You knuckle-draggers could always graduate to bidets and that solves most of this...
A lot of apartments don’t allow you to put in these air conditioners unless you own yours or have a nice building manager. Any recommendations if that’s the case? I hear you may want a double hose portable ac?
Portable Air Conditioners are inefficient with energy consumption, space and they are loud. Why wouldn't an apartment allow you to use these? Most apartments require mounts, or that they do the mounting, but they shouldn't care if you buy one of these.
Thanks a lot you save from paying a plumber £160 today.
So glad we could help. Thanks for the support
DOES THIS EXIST FOR EUROPEAN WINDOWS???
I don't know what a European window is.

I couldn't find my plunger so I was like what am I going to do now. I tried your method and it worked instantly. Awesome💯♥️
How difficult is it to remove these units every fall? And is that necessary? Thanks for the great video.
I like to remove them for multiple reasons, but it's not required. It's very easy to remove and reinstall on the same window once the initial setup is done.
Have you ever jerry rigged this to fit in a window wider than 36”? 🤞🏻
I actually have. The internal window bars won't reach both sides, but you can get one side in by offsetting the a/c and secure the bracket internally on one side, but also use the screw holes through the bottom of the mount bracket into the sill where the mount doesn't reach the other side. Extra insulation can be found here - amzn.to/3LgXfY7 and can be crazy glued together #alittlegoesalongway . If you do it, please be sure to let us know how it goes. If you're in the Greater Boston area and want it done for you, let me know and I'll hook you up.
Excellent - thanks so much for the info! I’ll let you know how it goes.
Great design, but I’m not impressed with the cooling. I can’t seem to get it anywhere near the room set temperature. It’s still the first night, so hopefully it will improve. 😢
Here are some tips. Make sure it's the right size for your room. They actually do do belter after a bit of use since they utilize the built up condensation water to be efficient. Make sure you have the tilt correct. Not too much and not too little. Make sure you didn't remove the pan drain plug outside. Make sure you have it set to cool, not auto with eco off. Check the temp with a thermometer after running for 20 minutes. It should be 60 degrees or lower. If not, call Midea and they will likely send out a replacement under warranty.
Did it twice and it worked thanks man!! Saved me some money 😂
Glad it worked for you. Thanks so much for the support.
hello, i have the same midea but mine after a few months stopped working. like the fan mode works right but when i change the mode to cool it starts to start the motor then boom the motor stops and it shows error code "EC 07" please help!
Call MIdea for troubleshooting. They may send you a new unit as they have a warranty.
Meaning the electronic control has detected the unit is reading one of the temperatures incorrectly. EC 07 error message is not considered a user repairable error. The good news is that most units can tolerate an EC 07 error and still continue to cool.
You left out the part where you attach the new stuff to the trap so we could all listen for new cuss words. Thanks for the vid!
Thank youuuu!
Thank you for watching
Didn't work for me...Boo!!! :(
So sorry, it doesn't work in all situations. If you have a non organic clog, you'll need to call in a Plumber or drain cleaner.
Help me out here how low can you put the temperature ? I live in Florida so 🥵🥵🥵
60 degrees is the lowest setting. I'm very comfortable with the auto setting 69-72. In practice how low you can actually get the temperature, will depend on your insulation and room size. I can tell you they are amazing at reducing humidity as well.
Thank you so much
