Awesome build. My favorite part is how its built around the tar, that's a really creative idea
Though it's a bit imperfect because he used stone rather than dirt and his stone isn't built with as many pieces either meaning the building can collapse using as many pieces allows buildings to withstand even boss battles. Though completely irrelevant against dirt wall since it can't collapse it's terraformed terrain.
@@datuputi777 perfect shmerfect he looks like he had a blast making it and making this video, that's perfect to me

I see
this base configuration is so cool, and nice use of the gates to deactivate them!! thanks again for the video
What a great build and great test of a new mechanic! Looks like the ballistae is better against bigger targets
I've tried my hand at building circular and this one just breaks my brain. Nice work
That base looks REALLY COOL! I like it. Thanks for the video.
That was funny dude😂 That goblin started laughing, then got nailed with a ballista bolt
Ignoring the annoying friendly fire mechanic, that's an epic base and defense you go setup. Interesting use of the tar pit, and using doors to block ballista view
Because FF was a problem, I found it rather engaging to work around it so that it's not a problem anymore, and the sense of accomplished I got was worth it. I also find people's idea to fight enemies in a huge mess with tamed animals and Ballistas shooting everywhere into the crowd unappealing, gimmicky and not fitting for Valheim. Ballista should rather be manually operated rather than having FF disabled.
@@mayaomkara I think FF should still be a problem, but that they shouldn't actively target friendly players and tames. That way, you won't be forced to having to block them off in case of the chance of a raid occurring, but you'd still have to be careful of where you and your tames are and what the ballistas are firing at. I think the structure you have would still work very will with that sort of prospects, since you know your ballistas have the high ground, so you know where you can fight enemies and where you can't fight them in case of raids.
@@the_furry_inside_your_walls639 I would be okey if it came with one more restriction, like having to wear certain item in order to not be targeted, which would reduce your armor to make it balanced or something.
So what do these always fires at you if you built them and have ff turned off?
@@TheLegendTyler Yes, they fire at you. They are not a building piece that you can casually place anywhere, so you have to think about functionality now, and not just style.
Great looking base, I love the tar moat
really impressive. subbed
I’ve only glimpsed the plains as I’ve only ever gotten to the Iron Age in this game. So excited since there’s so, so much more to come.
I think this is a very nice build!
I used 2 ballistae (with doors to optionally switch off their line of sight) and a bear trap to defend a bridge across a moat leading to the outer gate of my main base. But I didn't have dangerous raids so far so I can't say much about their effectiveness. During the fulling raid the green guys just hunted the local fauna and then had a party down in the moat where they couldn't be targeted))
By the way I love your tar moat idea!
Its cute how you get normal "The ground is shaking"-events with trolls, even though you build a base in Plains
Console commands were obviously used to spawn 3 consecutive events. Raids never spawn in short succession in Valheim.
Man, this game is so much crazier than I thought...
Nice build!
this base is sick wtf
The def is nice. But even better is the base design.
damn nice build!
Симпатичная крепость 👍
cool use of Tar
I’m just getting back into the game after like a year and a half. How are you floating like that? Haha great video!
It's the new cape you can find how to craft in Mistlands.
And its shall be called.... The deadly fidget spiner
cool base
i will love more if we can use balista also
GOD
nice base
That friendly targeting makes ballistas almost useless most of the time imo. I'd honestly rather just have them be manually controlled. Maybe if there were more dangerous events it would be worth the drawbacks, but as of now you're better off just dealing with threats yourself than building your defense around turrets that target friendlies. I get they'd probably be too strong if they didn't have drawbacks, but as it is now it just isn't worth it
Great base though
Damn, I really want to make this, looks like nothing I've seen built in Valheim. Anything complicated about the build? I'm a novice at most the architectural stuff in this game lol
You can click on the reddit link and description where you can also find instruction for downloading the base and inspecting it your ow and deconstruct it. The base skeleton is not complicated as you only need to know how to craft 1/4 of it to make the whole thing, because the skeleton is symmetric. I rushed few things here and there to make the test work in time (2days of building in creating mode). The apparently bigger challenge for people is setting up Ballista to work flawlessly with friendly fire enabled, but I didn't have problems implementing that. Even after finishing the base I got few more ideas I haven't utilized. I might do some of the guides in the future, but I recommend checking some of the popular guides on youtube (none excising for Ballista setups I'm afraid). Valheim building can be a bit finicky at first, but when it catches on, it will explode in endless immersive possibilities.
I haven't gone into mistlands yet but I'd think that ballista would be needed for base defense against flying enemies?
mistlands + ballista = death
5:48 Alternativ chapter name:
Have you seen my lamp?
Yah the Ballista need a complete overhaul. They're so poorly implemented right now. I hope Iron Gate does something to address their current "mostly" uselessness. :(
Dude they're made of black metal, springs, and magic. Folks acting like the towers should integrate with their Google Home haven't spent much time looking at the game's design choices. Everything has a trade-off.
@@michaeldurrant8446 lol
@@michaeldurrant8446 and the trade off of ballistae is that they're completely pointless lol
Not sure why you think of a world useless when you see this video. There are more than useful, and just need to be little bit more accurate. They require proper implementation in the base.
@@mayaomkara I can understand the sentiment. Why would I build them when they come with more drawbacks than gains? Not only are they inaccurate, they will kill me and my pets. Yes, I can implement a specific base design to make them viable, but with that much effort just to get them to not shoot me or my pets, I'd rather not build them at all and just use the normal defenses and weapons we already have.
Just my two cents.
Inwould love to see the build on this
the ballista damages more your base than the enemies lmao
It definitely need accuracy rebalance and mybe damage nerf as compensation.
what materials are needed for the stakes around the base?
2 Iron and 5 Yggdrasil wood pieces. However you can see the 2nd test on my channel of exact base with stone fence instead of those spikes.
how did you glide down like that is it a mod or somthing to do with the armor you have?
It's the cape that allows you to do that. Not a mod. It's related to Mistlands progression.
This balista thing is really awsome hope they remove the friendly fire ! But BREEDING TWO STAR WOLF GUARDS, they can be hard to find and a long tame , but you can start an army by always keeping two of them safe and under roofed pasture , i was able to breed up a large army and placed them on the outside of the moat around my base in a perimeter and dropped meat to breed the guarding ones also , works best with a 2 star boar farm and carrot or turnip farm to get a lot of meat more easily for breeding ! in meadows its easyer because the outer guards kill deer and necks and sometimes breed on their own while eating the droped meat ! And they did a good job agains troll and Goblin/Fuling invasions or make them follow you and attack goblin camps thats fun! If some die , can be easily replaced if you maintain you breeding wolves and keep them safe ! Normal wolves are too weak for this to work a 2 star wolf optimal ! And also they navigate rough terrain fairly well , that has helped ! Using the same method with lox guards can also be quite effective a shame you can't make them follow you , but i guess a saddle works to move them where they need to guard !
Love the base build, by chance is there a tutorial vid on this?
Sry, not at this moment. I scrapped the base quickly for purposes of providing Ballista feedback, so the construction is anyway not precise. You can follow the link in description and download the world save in which is the base tho.
@@mayaomkara appreciate it chief
This base is so epic, my major question is how tf did you make the ROOF black marble... LMFAO
wood iron cross beams will support stone/black marble
Fuck I need to return to this game
The friendly fire aspect of them kinda makes them useless in my eyes but other than that,I think they have some solid potential to be good.
As weak as events are right now, I don't agree. This sums up how I feel:
Good: Friendly fire ON + Automatic Ballista being strong and accurate
Good: Manually operated Ballista
Bad: Friendly fire OFF + Automatic Ballista being strong and accurate
Bad: Friendly fire OFF + Automatic Ballista being weak
@@mayaomkara why do you want to force people to play a certain way in a sandbox survival game? Lots of people play this game more casually, don't see the problem in Ballistas being strong with how limited base defense is atm.
@@fidelcashflow4940 It's not about forcing people to play the certain way. If you wanna call it that way, then you are doing the same, by forcing me to not have to play around Ballista downsides that I enjoy doing. If you disable friendly fire, you will erase all the need to build clever unique functional designs, and by having it enabled, at worst people have to modify their current bases. Creative builders can still build it which every way they want. Current base defending systems are good enough, to the point that I don't have to get out from this base at all, because events are too weak, and by enabling friendly fire, you will make it worse.
@@mayaomkara wouldn't it be fine to just make it an option? Whether or not you want it on or not?
@@mayaomkara my man. your ballista mixed with snap traps and spiked fences took like 20 seconds to kill one fuling. ballistas would be trash without friendly fire.
Wait… I’m not at this point yet with ballistas, but they’ll shoot at you? Or is this a mod you added for whatever reason?
Yes, they hate everything, unless you reconfigure them to target only one mob, or position them properly.
did you set up all this alone
What leg and chest pieces are those
Root chest piece for pierce resistance, padded greaves for armor, and fenris hood because looks coll.
with exception of Gjall wouldn't wolves eat all of this guys up?
Didn't test how well wolfs work against the Seekers. I personally don't need any of this defences myself. Never had a wolf or lox army, but only one pet of each. I only went to test this defences because nobody else did.
@MayaOmkara the spikes seems to be the real deal in this. I can see (both balista and spkie) this as a way to farm rabbit meat.
@@datuputi777 Ballista is way too inaccurate to hit a rabbit properly atm. Maybe it should be more precise, but do less damage.
@MayaOmkara that be really cool
Ballista don't shoot if u sneak? I didn't know, thanks
Sneaking helps, but it's not a perfect start, because on short distances Ballista will still shoot you when sneaking.
@@mayaomkara tnx bro👍🏼
bro got the clash of clans ah base
awesome build!
have a time lapse?
That base is impossible to build its a mod cause how to he got the black marble on the roof with no support?
Really feel like Ballista should have been manually controlled. When I saw the recipe I thought it would be, and was extremely surprised and excited to find out they were auto turrets.
But after testing them out, their FF, limited ammo, and okay damage means for the effort they take to use I'd rather not deal with them at all.
A mountable Ballista would have solved two of those issues, and the damage could have been much higher without breaking the game given you would need people to use them instead of AI.
As epic as your base here is, all I can think about is how much time and effort it would be (without cheesing/creative) to get the copper, iron, and black metal and build it all. Some people will certainly do it, and more power to them, but for me it would be too much cost for too little reward.
Is this what 200 fps looks like?
Whats with the flying cape
That's the new Mistlands cape. Really fun to use.
Good to see wows nelf stealth animation in other titles.

@@magnesjberg24 not at all, im playing on a pretty rough mmo server atm
Do they target you as well? Wtf
Yes, they fire at you. You can read the reddit thread I linked in description in more detail for how to mitigate their friendly fire.
very cool base, that mechanic with focusing even the player is so annoying tbh
All this and he still uses Eikthyr’s buff 😭 it must be the best then
Kinda makes sense to me though.
On land? Eikthyr.
On ocean? Moder.
In a game where exploration is huge and the travel itself can eat away at your time more than anything else, the powers that make you travel easier are just so good.
Still better then conan exile's lol
What armor is that?
Padded greaves, root chest, fenris hood. I like the hood and root chest piece reduces the damage from Ballista bolts and Seeker attacks.
@@mayaomkara Is it confirmed Seeker's do pierce damage?!
@@LtScooby_ I think they do. I was doing a death run and was carrying my Serpent Shield, and I was surprised how little damage I took using it. Much less than my mistimed parry with the black metal round shield.
I think they are great but it sucks that they Attack you
The best way to make use of these new base defense contraptions is to manipulate AI. Make a closed base, and leave just one little opening (you can use a door on another side). Put ballistas, traps, whatever, on this entrance "for mobs", and enjoy the slaughter. Ballistas are too dumb to rely on them to aim, so just make enemies walk into a corridor, bahahahaha
True. I purposely didn't use moats, decoys, base next to a hill, or just having one entrance, because people would dismiss it as ugly, too restricting and use it as an argument to dismiss every other viable option for making Ballista work.
@@mayaomkara that's really cool and I really enjoyed the eye candyness of your build. A majestic base that doesn't have to look ugly to atleast defend your base for some time if you accidently afk there, is definetly worth it.
until they fix ballista and have them stop shooting friendlies i will not be using them
The person who made this vid thinks the current system is good for the balistas
Wait.... mine don't attack friends, if you have your pvp set to no friendly fire and whom ever approach your base do the same, than they won't attack. If someone has friendly fire turned on than it attacks cause it thinks that player is hostile, like I said, both needs to be friendly fire off.
You are probably playing on a server that is running mods.
What?
the ballista seems incredibly annoying. so much to craft ammo and it hardly even hits anything.
Ballista is meant to be used as a support, by configuring it with a trophy, so it can help clear out enemies that the players struggle with, and as such, it's not annoying and doesn't waste ammo. Think Devs also plan on adding raid quests for which it will be more useful (guess work based on some of the tweets).
@@mayaomkara maybe i gotta look at some in depth videos on the ballistas.
whatever...ur just showing off ur base aye
The waffel house has found its new host.
Wow these things are worthless
It's not so much as they are worthless than the events are too weak. You would definitely find them useful if Gjall event spawned across all biomes. I don't even have to go outside the base, and this base can deal with all 3 events one right after another. They do need some accuracy tweaks tho.
