- In this video I talk about my favorite acoustic guitar amplifier, the Da Capo 75 from Udo Roesner Acoustics.
For the sound demonstration - I am capturing the DI from the amp, and mixing it with a mic. The mic is a C12 about 12 inches from the amp, set to omni. I panned them each about 60% and added a little plate reverb to the DI.

Nobody is talking about how good the voice sounds through this amp! For a singer- gitarist it is a no brainer. Small, great sound. Plug and play. Reliable. The best!
Your playing and sound bypass the brain completely and goes straight to heart and soul ❤️
What a sound and great playing Joe! Love the amps
Excellent demo and showing features of the amp
Absolutely beautiful
Joe, I agree with you on the sound of the Udo amp. Spectacular!
Sounds amazing! I’m sold 🙌
Great video-sound is awesome and great explanation!
congratulations Joe , I been watching your progression for the last few years , you come a long way , I wish the best for you and looks like its paying off , I only wish you were coming close to Louisiana so I could see you live , Thanks for the inspiration !!!!
I was just talking about how I needed an acoustic amp but with limited tech knowledge I had no idea what to look for, then prayers answered just like that! Thanks Joe 👍
❤️🎶❤️ Your playing, Joe, is of rare elegance and your passion for music is exceptional 👍
Thank you very much for all the great times 🙏🙏🙏
Beautiful sound!!
Great video Joe. Really appreciated it
I needed a guitar and somehow gravitated to the JR Maton, loving it. Better yet, it introduced me to you. Thanks so much for putting all the helpful info out here on the web, I'm really enthused about learning some of your arrangements. I needed an amp and got an UDO, I really appreciate you showing where to start with settings.
Joe your music taste is immense. The amp tone is stunning!
So happy I found your channel Joe. Your playing is over the top. I love your passion about your craft. I love the sound of your axe and amp. Great Thank you. F
I just ordered my Udo Roesner Da Capo 75 today, and I can't even express how excited I am to be receiving it within the next couple of weeks!
Thanks for your insight, Joe.
I ordered my Da Capo 75 after seeing this video. I enjoyed seeing you and Tommy, in South Milwaukee; this past summer.
Thanks Joe. Sounds very good.
Magical, Brother Robinson.
Thanks Joe.. Indeed these amps are truly phenomenal... I bought two and run them in stereo with a quality chorus. Huge 3D sound that now makes my pa system redundant for most gigs. Vocals sound great too - No issues.
I bought a Udo Rosner amp on Joe and Tommy's recommendation. I'm so very glad I did. To say I absolutely love this amp seems like an understatement. I've owed Ultrasound, Bose, AER, and others. But this amp is really something special.
Nice one Joe! With you 100% on the Udo amp - it's a stunner!!
I had to dig through your Spotify library to find the song from 5:35 -- I loved the composition of that tune and really appreciate your rendition of "Fireflies" in this video!
Hope were all back in clubs soon!!! You sound great as always!! Greg
Beautiful sound ... Big Joe and Big Amp !!
loves this amp.
Sounds awesome !
Nicely done, Udo amplifiers are very clever. The weight of my AER Compact 60 is what got my attention.. The sound of your guitar is truly amazing. Besides the settings , I am a firm believer that the fingers and hands contribute to your sound. So cool to always see you describe and talk. That is a huge torch TE is passing on . Joe Robinson can handle it for sure.. No Drugs Joe , be careful . Cheers Alberta Dave
The AER is A GREAT amp! I am happy to hear the story with Udo and the new company. I can only imagine how good this is. I am going to have to sell my AER now. I love the verb and hear the tone of the amp and the new DI outs are 2 of the huge differences.
Garrrrrd damn! That sounds incredible! Would love to try that with my grace alix pre amp. Beautiful bro
Grande Joe ! Grazie
Rightio! I need one. Joe, sir, you have brought a whole new light to my eyes by listening to every live feed, taking notes, and just passive listen. You've inspired me, I already am a good player, but now with your tips you've helped enhance the beauty in my music (which isnt bad btw lol). Big fan, mad love from your old neighbor NZ
That means a lot Jayson! Cheers mate! Much love to NZ! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I concur!! That is the tone that raises the hair on you arm! A perfect size acoustic amp that delivers, nice!! Until the day I do purchase and own one the 'Bugera AC60' will have to do, lol!
Wow. It's that sound we all dream of.
Thanks, Joe! I’ll have to get one of these!
(For its qualities, of course, but also for its name-“Hi, folks. My name is Uday, and this is Udo.”)
Joe, I have a funny feeling that you could make any amp sound great! You are just that good! Cheers from Canada.
Bought one love it
Awesome. ❤❤❤❤❤
Great Playing man... I own Schertler amps . Also amazing amps. Great demo also!
Amp sounds great, but man, Amazing Grace sounds divine! Thanks Joe!
Good Job Bro...⚡🎸👌
I love the thumbnail of the video :)
Oh yea, good stuff man!
Cheers Steve!
Joe: thanks for everything you do to help us guitarists improve the way we play. What are the two fingerstyle pieces you played in this video and can we buy the tabs for them?
Very nice explanations Joe.....Real beautiful warm sound.....does your guitar cut through with drums and do use use it at big venues going into the P.A......
Beautiful playing! Your demo wouldn't be as impressive without it.
Stunning tone !
Cheers Dennis!
So if I buy a Joe Robinson Maton and that amp, I’ll sound just like you? Perhaps if I found Aladdin and his magic lantern!!! LOL!!! You’re awesome. I love your music AND your informational videos. They are the best out there.
I’ve tried them both. The AER and this. I use an MXR 10 band EQ that’s all you really need to make it sound much better. The UDO is nice. But the extra money makes no sense by a used AER. And the boss or MXREQ. And you’re done.
🔥🔥🔥🙌
Hi I recently bought this amp and wow no bullshit this amp is so powerful it’s as a good asa pa I’ve even played small venues with just this my guitar and my mic.
Please try it I was really surprised how powerful and great sounding plus higher venues you can plug it into the pa plus fully cranked with the high pass filter no feedback I love this amp ❤
Yes. It's nice! A little too much piezoelectric tone. Mic needs more. but acoustic amp could be a winner after this. I'm using everything from quilter thru 1x12 celestion. Mackie monitors, JBL 1000w PA to H&K era1 . It's a choice of $ cost. Portability. Power. Tone. I'm playing a Sire R7 Sungha Jung.
Good little review here. . .sound could be good too!
Tommy Emmanuel just posted one of those amps for sale on his Reverb shop. What an interesting coincidence! :)
do you use this amp with your semi acoustic as well? sounds amazing btw :)
Hey Joe.
You are an amasing guitar player. Love to listen to your music.
What is the name of the first one you are playing? It is so beautiful.
Reverb galore !!! Not exactly what I'd want but nice playing
Sounds great!!
What is the first song you played?
This "your"sound is so full and rounded!
Amazing! But what pick up system do you use to seemingly capture so much of the natural sound too.
That typical Maton sound is also very difficult to replicate.
i see you're getting really creative with the thumbnails!
My plan for CZcams world domination is underway 😂
Couldn’t ask for better sound. I love my Cole Clark set up. Australian guitars just sound the best.
My Schertler Jam 200 just stopped working and I'm having trouble finding someone to repair it. I just ordered this very amp to give it a go and am quite excited. If it's not my thing, I can send it back and I'll look for another Schertler amp instead. I'm mainly just worried the Udo will sound thin and boxy compared to my schertler
Hi! Like the Aer 60/4, does this amp take the effects with DI out to the PA?
I have SCHERTLER AMP jam wood, I have preferred it to AER amp... but this one seems to be very good and similar to AER too... Are you using any of guitar effects or preamp like LR baggs ? bro, I would like to know your opinion. The difference between your signature guitar and M.Fix model...I can not decide.
do u think I could use this speaker as a DJ pa system if i get two of them? i need to perform live guitar and voice but also dj and have budget for only one thing now
Can you plug into the two channels at the same time? With two different instruments, for instance? Thanks!
Really informative video! Off the top of your head, is there a portable acoustic amp you'd recommend for busking?
This amp is certainly portable, but you would need a power source. Many buskers use the battery powered AER.
Do you use this amp also for your jazz guitars ?
Just bought this amp. Absolutely phenomenal! Joe while we’re talking about your setup - would you mind sharing action height and relief numbers?
Whats the price you bought?
@@dimsumpizza4746 1150
Awesome Luke! Isn't it great! I don't have know the exact relief numbers and action height handy. Glaser Instruments set up my guitars, and they have those measurements in their system. The neck is very straight and the action is low - if it were lower, it would start buzzing.
It's in the fingers and soul, my good friend. A poor musician can use a pro's set up and still sound poor. A good musician can make anything sound decent or even outstanding.
With a mic in your guitar, I’m curious where is your amp located on stage for best monitoring of your sound without the mic in your guitar feeding back?
I love my 60/4, but I wish it had more low end. How does the Dacapo 75 compare in regards to low end?
Hi Joe how does if compare to the Tommy Emmanuel compact60/4 ?
Beautiful amplified acoustic tone! And it's great to learn about Roesner amps. I have an EE background, and I've experimented with custom acoustic pickups and preamps since I was teen, back in the late 1970s. Back when I was gigging more regularly, I occasionally gave workshops on acoustic guitar amplification at Folk Alliance conferences, and I did some consulting and beta-testing for some pickup and preamp manufacturers. I have to say that Maton guitars do something really special when it comes to amplified acoustic guitar tone. As you know, Maton makes their own pickups and preamps, with a unique design that's integrated into the guitar in a way that can't be easily duplicated with other instruments and pickups. It's an almost uniquely capable system when it comes to live acoustic guitar tones. I just want to make sure that any listeners new to acoustic guitar amplification understand that the foundation of one's live sound is the synergy between guitar and transducer. Every guitar model is different in terms of what pickup may work with it, and in what location. And if you don't have that part of the equation working well, plugging into a great amp isn't going to get you great tone.
That said, amplifying an acoustic guitar signal well is a whole different level of challenge from amplifying an electric guitar, especially doing it well in a small package. Big kudos to Roesner for doing your Maton justice here! -Tom
PS: I hear a ton of stereo information in your performances here, but it looks like the amp is a mono amp. Would you let us know what's in the signal chain besides the amp, producing that big, wide stereo sound? Maybe it's mostly from a stereo reverb, but to my ears it sounds like even the dry signal is pretty different in the L & R sides. Were you mixing your usual external mic signal with the mic'd amp tone?
…brilliant sound….
How can this fill the sound around a gig when gain and master is set to a quarter? Unless you are referring to the D.I out to p.a.
❤🤘🎸🎼
What's this like in comparison to the compact 60?
What cable do you use?
What is the piece at 5:36?
Hey Joe! Thanks for a great review! 1 question: for singing + guitar playing on the amp, how does it compare to the AER Compact 60? Imagine street performance / jamm sess in a small club without own PA... Thanks a lot for your input!
Both are great options! This amp has the same vibe and features as the Compact 60, it just sounds a little sweeter to my ears. I used AER amps for about 15 years, they are great.
Thanks a lot!
What`s the main difference between the Udo 75 & the AER 4/60???
Solid choice, hopefully this isn't an endorsement video,
Anyone tried this amp with a jazz box hollowbody? am looking for a portable amp to use for acoustic and jazz .Cheer's .Great as alway's Joe
Thanks Brett, I think a Henrikson amp would be a good choice for a hollow body jazz guitar with a magnetic pickup. The Da Capo would be my pick for an acoustic guitar amp, although it would sound fine with a jazz box too of course.
Love your playing!! What strings and what string size do you use...11s or 12s or heavier?
Thanks Bill! I’m using a set of 12-54 Ernie Ball Paradigm but I replace the high E string with a heavier gauge. In this video I am actually using an 0.16 on top.
@@Joe_Robinson double the B, double the beef
Joe you ever use a fish man amp? That’s my favorite acoustic amp.
Joe - I have the UDO capo 75 amp . How can I incorporate a stomp box if I am using both channels for vocals and guitar ?
I would plug the stomp box into a PA speaker, the Da Capo won't really give you the sub frequencies you would want from a stomp, it's voiced for acoustic guitar, sounds fantastic for vocals also.
Whats the song at 4:20 ?
Hi great review, I play AER 60 compact with batery, what would you say that is the biggest differences between AER and Da Capo, I love this sound but I dont want to loose oppurtunity to play without power supply. Thanks Joe
Nice one Stepan! I think the best way to get a feel for the difference is to try one for yourself. Since you know the Compact 60, you’ll hear the difference right away. The Da Capo sounds more open, richer & more detailed, to my ears anyway ✌🏻
@@Joe_Robinson Thanks, for sure after the situation will get better I will visit guitar shop and thry them for sure. Many thanks, keep rocking, I love these videos!
How does this amp perform if the player is a heavy strummer?
Just bought the amp. It is sooooo good. I sounds Big and warm. Just played two gigs last weekend. One being a small duo gig where I just used the amp. The second gig was a huge gig on a Big stage. Used the amp as a monitor and send DIs to the Sound guy. He was very happy.
Awesome!!
Joe do you have Celtic ancestry. Irish, Scottish etc. Your musical roots are from where? I just love the way you play and wish you could come to the Caribbean to play. Your amp sounded wonderful.
Hi Jenny! Yes, I do - the Robinson side comes from Scotland as far back as we can trace. And there is Irish heritage in there too. I feel a kindred spirit with people from the Celtic traditions. I grew up in Australia, influenced by a melting pot of different genre's. I would love to play in the Caribbean some day..!
@@Joe_Robinson The Celts are the balladiers and some of the greatest muscians in the world. You are one of them for sure Joe. Thank you for you wonderful music.
👍🤠
Sounds great, I got the AER TE 60. They look almost the same bar the front?? Just read this Udo dude just quit from AER doing his own gig now....
Cheers Rob, yes it's a very similar design - Udo designed both amps. To me this amp sounds a little more open, difficult to describe. If you get the chance to try one out you'll hear it right away since you are familiar with the Compact 60.
@@Joe_Robinson Thank you Joe for that, I will soon as I come across one.
Cheers
Awesome amp. I guess it also has reverb.
It has a really nice sounding reverb 👍🏻
4:20 Simply un-earthly.
Whats the name of the tune?
I've had my AER for 20 years. I also use it to record with. I also love the bigger AER for the Presets but it's too heavy for me to lug around. Still using my old AER but the second it breaks I'll try and get this new Udo! Sample of my sound with Lowden and AER;
czcams.com/video/xJZLWIAlqlg/video.html
how much does this amp cost...generally speaking?
Joe, thanks. This wasn't what I would call a "normal" review, but I loved your honesty and passion for the sound and the music. And I really loved your guitar playing. I wish to heck you had some playing tutorials on here, but I'm guessing you don't need to.
Thanks Simon, its really a great amp! If you search Joe Robinson lesson you’ll see I have many lesson videos on CZcams and many more on my course platform InvisibleTechnique.com
@@Joe_Robinson Thanks heaps. I've always been pretty much an average lead player on electric, but lately I'm finding myself really wanting to build a bit more competence and confidence on acoustic. I'll definitely be checking out your lessons!
