I love how diverse your reading lists are each month. Always something in there to peak my interest. The tid bit about what actually happened with Molly Brown's stove was a pleasant surprise. I loved the Debbie Reynolds movie as a kid and that stove scene is emblazoned in my brain!
December ended up being a slow reading month for me. Only 5 books:
A Haunting on the Hill by Elizabeth Hand
    Abandoned by Katie Berry
Road of Bones by Christopher Golden
Where the Dead Wait by Ally Wilkes
    Hide by Kiersten White
I think my top pick for the month would be Road of Bones. I wanted some horror set in the snow and ice and it definitely delivered. Very atmospheric.
I also enjoyed Where the Dead Wait as I am a big fan of nautical horror and Hide (though I am not sure it is everyone's cup of tea)
January is off to a strong start so it will be interesting to see how the rest of 2024 shakes out.
Have a great rest of your month and I look forward to the January round up!

It’s pretty common vernacular to refer to mega-conglomerate industries/corporations, with a virtual monopoly on a given market, with the derogatory prefix “big.” Insofar as this use both captures the general parlance of the time, as well as gives an accurate description of the industry in question, it hardly warrants a charge of “bias” given that the term’s prefix still connotes “the pharmaceutical industry.” Hell, even shills for these kind of government subsidized corporations/industries refer to them with the prefix “big.”

My linguistic objection is to the abbreviation of the word “pharmaceutical” rather than the adjective “big.” Never liked the term “pharma.” But I think the author’s bias is made clear by my other remarks, though as I certainly tried to make clear, that bias only affects the periphery of the issue at hand.

    Another eclectic assortment, I see!
    My December reads were:
The Children on the Hill - finally finished
    Nestlings - great fun
The Witches of Worm - a book from my childhood I was glad to reread
Candy Cain Kills - my new annual holiday read I think
    Starve Acre - creepy, interesting
The Sun Down Motel - atmospheric and well written
All in all, a very enjoyable month.

Sounds like a good month. Several of those are also on my list.

    My December horror was rereads
-Salvaged by Madeleine Roux (one of my favs last year)
-Alan Wake by Rick Burroughs (good for a video game novelization)
-Below Us by Nathan Hystad (sci-fi apocalyptic horror adventure)
-We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson (not quite horror but worth a mention)
I don't mind taking swings at classics! For example I read Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert last month and liked it, but I felt like Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy was a long winded inferior knock off of it. (It's about as far away from horror as you can get but I'm currently reading Mistress Anne by Temple Bailey (1917) and Loving it!)
I've read A Christmas Carol multiple times, the other one in rotation is The Greatest Gift by Philip Van Doren Stern which was the basis of the movie It's a Wonderful Life
Do you have The Revolt of the Angels by Anitole French on tour xtian reading list? I've had ot for about a year but haven't felt the urge to read it yet.

Never have read Revolt of the Angels and it’s not on my current list, but that doesn’t mean I won’t get to it eventually. My unattainable goal in life is to read everything.

Interesting review. Sorry that ‘big books’ deleted it.
Will this mean they likely in the future will not offer you a book in exchange for a review?

I rarely get reviewer copies from Amazon anyway. This was a noteworthy exception. When I do get them, they tend to come from authors or publishers (though I put those reviews on Amazon too). And they’ve only removed the one, so it shouldn’t affect anything long term. If it did, I’d be making a lot more noise about it than just a passing comment in a CZcams video.
