Shark Heart 💜 My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer this year at age 25 and after just 3 years of marriage. It’s been the worst year of our life. That book somehow tore me apart and healed me simultaneously. I cannot even explain how much it means to me. Definitely my favorite of the year.
Oh my gosh Macey 😭 I’m so so so sorry to hear that, my heart goes out to you 😭💗
So sorry to hear that Macey! I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at 21 and I cant imagine how you and your husband are feeling 🥺 💗
I have it on my TBR but haven’t picked it up. My mom passed away unexpectedly on 9/7/23 so idk if this book will be a light hearted bittersweet read or if I should stay clear for a bit. I’m having a very difficult time, and grief is messy. Praying for you and your family 🤍
@@1U7S7A6 I’m so sorry to hear that 💜 grief is so so so messy. I honestly wish I had more of an answer for you regarding the book - everyone who knows about our cancer situation told me to wait on reading this book because they knew it would be hard for me to get through. I just had a feeling I needed to read it… and so I didn’t listen to them. It was hard. I cried a lot. Like… the entire book. But I think it was something that I personally really needed at the time. But it was also almost a year post-diagnosis…. But like you said grief is so messy and not linear at all. I would never want to recommend someone to read this book when they’re not ready for it 💜 sending all my hugs and deep breaths to you. You are not alone.
So sorry to hear that Macey🥺 sending my prayers and love to you and your family ❤
Monstrilio was so well written it made me DNF it. I recently lost my mom and the way the author portrayed grief is pretty spot on and extremely devastating that for my mental health I had to put it down. I may pick it up at a later time.
I’m so sorry for your loss 😢😭💗
Shark Heart was SO well written. So glad that you mentioned it! It was one of my favourites in 2023 as well!
yes!! At Home with The Horrors!! Loved that book. It kicked off my horror short story obsession lol. I also have Beta and hope to read soon!
The seven year slip sounds up my alley and I have it on hold to read.
Any Man was a book that needed to be written, and I was afraid that having a topic like this written by a female was not going to be done with sensitivity and taste... and I'm glad I was wrong when I read it.
I have Shark Heart on my Libby holds list !! My 3 favorites are : Dead Romantics (1st book of 2023), The Seven Year Slip & Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez. i posted this before, but I saw author Ashley Poston at Book Bonanza in Dallas. I told her that you loved SYL. I hadn't read it yet. I also told her I loved Dead Romantics. I do want to listen to Amber Tamblyn's book. ** Did you know that her dad Russ was in the original movie West Side Story, I LOVED this vlog.
Not me counting how many books you have in common with Kayla...predicting which one she is going to read from your list...haha
Omg same😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Why did I already know what your top 2 was going to be?😅 but I agree...I LOVED Any Man....i cant wait to reread it🤩
My top 5 this year were probably Ace by Angela Chen, Several People are typing by Calvin Kasulke, The Queen of the cicadas by V. Castro, The Honeys by Ryan La Sala, and This is where we talk things out ❄️
So happy to see someone else talk about Ace! one of my faves of the year, my fave non fiction for sure
Mother Thing 💜 Literally 2 weeks after reading this my mom passed away unexpectedly on 9/7/23. Life has been HARD and very difficult these last 4 months of loosing my best friend. My goals for the new year are to heal my mind, body, and soul. But also find some good 📚 gems along the way.
Omigoodness, Gabby, I just finished Any Man by Amber Tamblyn late last night, & I totally concur with all your comments! It was massively engrossing, & I read it in one sitting, could NOT put it down. I believe it’s message will stay with me for a long time to come. I’ve added 5 of your other favorites to my TBR & look forward to reading them in the new year. Merry Christmas to you & your family & a delightful 2024! 📚🎄📚🎉
I’m so glad you agree about Any Man!! And I hope you enjoy the other books! Happy holidays ❤
Thx Gabby - another good reading year in the books! Have a happy, and enjoy!
At home with the horror was a banger no doubt. I read it for your recommendation, so good!
Can’t wait for the recommendations! Thanks Gabby!
Gabby, thank you for the great review as always! You look great and I’ve love watching your transformation since the COVID years. Have a wonderful holiday and I hope you an awesome New Year🎉
I have gotten through so many reading slumps because of you, thank you. Hope 2024 is a great one for you Gabby!
Well done. Your passion comes through!
✨ Yesss, ad placement that makes sense lol ... love your explanation and excitement for the Fable app. Checking it out now.
I was waiting for this omg!!!❤
yes the seven year slip!!!! something about ashley postons adult romance books are so special🥹
Amazing video Gabby. Great choices. Can't wait to see what you have coming next year!!
Yay!!! I'm so excited for this🎉🎉🎉
I love your hair Gabby! Merry Christmas 🥰
Thank you!! Merry Christmas! ❤
Yesss I loved the writing retreat 🥹
Loved the video Gabby!! I need to watch the Patreon one later but for now I added some of your recs into my tbr. From the videos you've mentioned I really loved The Seven Year slip, really cozy and cute. My best read must be Yellowface, it was absolutrely AMAZING!! RF Kuang is brilliant, I'm currently halfway Babel and, since I love linguistics I'm enjoying it so so much.
Ahhh thanks Amanda!! I agree Yellowface is so great!! 😍👏
you got me so hyped for shark heart that i bought it! your recs never have let me down!🖤😬
I agree with most all of your favorite books. Shark Heart is next on my reading list. I have to prepay myself for the sadness. Regarding Any Man, I have several men in my life who have been abused, mostly at a young age, and it forever changed them. Abuse toward anyone at any age is never ok.
Love the book info. Need the info on that sweater ❤
I read nestling based in your Reccomdations. It was wild and so good. Need more like that asap
adding all of these to my tbr! also starting at home with the horrors today :)
So intrigued by At Home With The Horrors! It seems a pretty unknown collection but I'm so interested!
I’ve come back here to thank you for introducing me to Fable!! I already love it more then Goodreads 😊
Such a good list!! I’ve been hearing awesome things about The Seven Year Slip and Happiness Falls!! Definitely will be picking them up in 2024! 🪩✨
Excited to read Yellowface next year!
I just read Shark Heart last week and LOVVVVVVED it!!!
An amazing selection of books. Congratulations.
My favourites of the year:
Any man
The Haunting of Hill House
Severance
The Honeys
Acts of Desperation
The Family Game
The Great Awake (a short story from Salt Slow collection)
Bodies Are For Burning and You’re Not Supposed to Be Here (short stories from The Trees Grew Because I Bled There collection)
Chlorine
What My Bones Know
Ghost Tamer
Beholder
Out there (a short story from the collection of the same title)
Any man. Adding to TBR. The writing retreat - can't help bashing it again as why? How ?
But I love the diversity in this collection. Solid reco
Also loved Yellowface Gabby. Other favorites of mine include The House Is On Fire by Beanland, The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by McBride, Small Mercies by Lehane, Dark Road by Berney and The Husband by Ventura.
Star in Your Eyes seems like it would be a fun read. You kind of sold me when you said there is excerpts from fanfics about them. That is great and gives Fangirl vibes.✨ I thought Dead Romantics was such an adorable read, but I haven't picked up Seven Year Slip yet. 😅
I was so excited to know your fav manga but I understand that you made it exclusive to patreon^^ maybe you could do a manga recs videos thought!! would love it
My favorite video of the year!!❤❤❤ This year is funny though because usually our tastes align, but Any Man I just did not like at all! Such a cool concept but It might’ve been the audio book that I found annoying. I’m not surprised it’s in your favorites though, I know how much you enjoyed it! I’m excited to read others though, I always try to read as much in your top 15 as possible!
Yes!! The Seven Year Slip!! Ashley Poston knows my soul🥹
OMG! Any Man left me absolutely speechless! What a beautiful and difficult read. The audio was 10/10! My top three books this year were 1. NOS4A2 (I've already listened to it twice!)
2. 11/22/63
And 3. Burial Rites (this one was so sad and so beautiful)
I hope to read The Seven Year Slip next year. The Only One Left by Riley Sager is probably my favorite book of the year.
I hated The Writing Retreat.
On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous 😭❤️so beautiful. One of my faves of all time!
Best wishes with your reading in 2024 and with your channel.

Hope you enjoy them!! 🥰
Loved Any Man!!
I finished Strange Sally Diamond yesterday and DAMN!!!!! One of the best books I've EVER read
the book novelization of The Shape Of Water!!!! you would love it!!
Love the dark red hair on you!
Thank you!! ❤
My top three of the 2023: Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson, Fairy Tale by Stephen King, and The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi
My top books of the year were:
Monstrilio
All the Sinners Bleed
Birnam Wood
Chlorine
The Pisces
The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida
The Seven Year Slip sounds a lot like a movie called The Lake House with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. Have you seen that one?
Any Man is EXCELLENT. I need to re-read.
Our Share Of Night was good, but slightly disappointing for me, the pacing and structure was a bit wonky, i do really enjoy her short stories though
None of This is True is an easy 4.8 for me. I've seen so many people post that they thought it was boring and I just don't get that. Top 15 for me as well.
🥰😇Collab maybe? One day hope so. Stay well and God Bless You. Wish there is a book convention where all of us book lovers and book enthusiasts can all meet up to talk books. God Bless.
🎄❄️❤️🎄❄️❤️
Here to see if #1 is Shark Heart or Anyman?!?!
